I suspect if he wasn't fired for actual incompetence (or worse) he would have just said he was laid off or let go. And if he wasn't le epic piece of poo poo there was a point in the interview where they realized and would have taken the "reinterview" seriously. Also I suspect none of that actually happened

I once got showed around a flat that I'd left a year earlier due to the owner being incompetent and bankrupt. I spent the entire viewing telling the estate agent horror stories about how poo poo the owner was and how the previous estate agents hated dealing with him.
