Since this thread as a deep love and affection for staircases I thought folks might want to know about this opportunity to give feedback to the BC government about designs for single staircase apartments. https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2024HOUS0009-000086 quote:Current British Columbia Building Code (BCBC) and British Columbia Fire Code (BCFC) requirements call for at least two egress, or exit, stairwells per floor in many buildings three storeys and higher. The RFP seeks options for what would be needed to protect safety, access and egress of occupants, while achieving the benefits of single egress stair designs in buildings up to eight storeys – more flexibility for multi-bedroom apartments, more density within areas of transit-oriented development and the potential to improve energy efficiency in buildings.

The people marched right by the HQs of the security services and into a zone with the probably greatest concentration of serving officers in the US per square mile. Jan 6 went on for hours. The ottawa occupation went on for weeks. People had plenty of time to have a good think, sleep on it, and think some more before deciding to do nothing.

Honestly it seems fine for small buildings. These aren't sprawling structures with dozens of units per floor. Instead for 4 small lots being combined to build one big building with 2 staircases, they can build 4 small buildings each with 1 staircase. plot twist: they get rid of the second stair case but mandate so many additional other fire safety measures it actually makes it more expensive not to have a second staircase you know thats whats going to happen
