I don't think whether or not the company is being disingenuous for money is something they care about, because as they see it none of it is ever genuine. If this were some kind of of grass-roots community driven effort they'd still grumble about how it's being "forced on us" by some ill-defined enemy whose goals are to make them miserable out of pure malice.

It has to be a culture "war", and they have to be "fighting" it, because otherwise they'd have to face the fact that they're wrong and are just being petulant losers.

Good point. I forgot for a moment that in their minds they're either fighting minorities directly, those who believe they stand to personally gain by fighting on their side, and nobody else.

If you tell a conservative you want better things for everyone, they'll just decline to believe you. Explain to them how and they get enraged because thinking about a solution that works, working for any amount of time coming from someone they hate is deeply uncomfortable. Especially if it helps those people as well

I've found the better you get at refuting their bullshit, the more frantically they engage in whataboutism before finding an excuse to put you in a box labeled none of your opinions matter because arbitrary thing X. I've toyed with the idea of posting Stonetoss every once in a while. Thing is, I think daily or even weekly like Sinfest might be too much. Maybe some kind of monthly or quarterly checkin. The thread just really doesn't like Stonetoss and, I think, would react pretty badly to it being posted daily. (And, honestly, I think looking at it every day would get to me, too.)

Mainly I believe this is because of how viscerally upsetting the material is. Even the worst of our current batch of cartoonists is not regularly depicting the suicide of trans people, for instance (something that is what passes for a running gag in Stonetoss). There are very few dogwhistles in that comic; everything is well within the range of human hearing.

It is kind of amusing seeing "What is a woman?" portrayed as a cutting inquiry that rocks liberals to their very core and forces them to confront their sinful ways, and not as just a right-wing shibboleth worthy of an eye-roll and jerkoff hand motion. It's like creationists teaching their kids to ask "were you there?" to their science teacher once they start their units on evolution, as if that's going to change anything.

I still think that Sinfest has value being here because it is chronicling the author's downward spiral into right-wing hatred, and there's stuff to discuss about that. Stonetoss is just laundering Holocaust denial talking points by way of Twitter gotcha comics, so there isn't really anything interesting about it.

Like if Sinfest ever does reach the point where it's Stonetoss levels of "haha wouldn't it be funny if black people went back to Africa (wow that'd be based actually)" then sure, get it out of here, but I don't think it's there yet.

Thread lore correction: Day By Day was banned because the main character raped his wife in order to fix an opinion that wasn't conservative enough (she was uncomfortable with being too cruel to her slutty liberal sister).

It was not banned for child porn because to the best of my knowledge* Muir has not drawn actual child porn. He remains technically within the law by covering the naked kids with strategically placed scenery, similar to what Sinfest does now when Ishida draws child strippers and prostitutes to show how evil the "libs" are for wanting to see that.

*This knowledge could be out of date because I am too afraid to read the comic to be sure.

Central to the decision to stop posting stonetoss (and, I'd note, the crew of related cartoonists in stonetoss's orbit) was that it was cryptoracist and fascist, periodically including comics that looked like standard internet "relatable" jokes and loaded with multiple levels of varyingly obscure racist symbolism. By design, it served as a pretty effective onramp for the alt-right even when it was being mocked or counterargued, because it was still getting more attention.

That's how the original Dilbert was too, it became a comic about an everyman hero versus soulless corporate nonsense thanks to reader feedback. Scott put his email address on the comics and drew what people wanted to see.

The recent stuff where, for example, only stupid and lazy employees use their paid time off and taking a vacation is basically stealing from the company, are Scott's real unfiltered beliefs.

Well, it's been about seven months since I last posted Stonetoss. Let's see what he's been up to for the last half-year.

Since that point, Stonetoss has posted 66 comics. I am not going to put all of them here. You're welcome. Instead, I'll go over the general themes all of them fall into and post a couple of representative examples.

Stupid Meme poo poo

This is the one Discendo Vox was talking about above; they're just regular dumb internet comics dealing with pop culture references or gaming. You might get the occasional implicit bit of sexism or racism, but their main purpose is to draw people into the comic and convince them it's more innocent than it actually is, while also getting some alt-right cultural memes onboard to get readers used to those. I've actually encountered these in the wild before and had to tell people that the comic they're gleefully pasting to their friends and family on Facebook was actually written by a Nazi. Every once in a while these will be designed to push people a little further down the slippery slope, but for more of that, see the second category.

Shadow the Hedgehog has a gun! This new game has pokemon with guns! Shadow is sad because he didn't do as well. Hilarious.

Wouldn't it be funny if a Spongebob character got Buu's powers from DBZ (also internet racists often love DBZ and this character in particular)?

Remember when that rich guy and his friends all got killed in a submarine? Wasn't it funny, when those people died?

Standard Right-Wing poo poo

Sometimes Stonetoss will just pick up on the standard right-wing talking points and do cartoons that wouldn't be odd coming out of our usual stable of assholes.

This one is about January 6th. Nothing special here, really.

"Man, some left-wing people eat some weak cuck poo poo amiright ha ha ha"

This is about a moment in the Republican debate when the candidates were asked if they'd support Trump even if he were convicted. Most of them hesitated. You can see more of the alt-right stuff creeping in here; representing people you disagree with as NPCs or robots is a pretty common trope there.

Note the "subtlety" of the racism here. They have to lock up the stores due to looting by those people, but there's plenty of plausible deniability if someone were to point this out. (The name of the image, incidentally, is "store-lootings-stonetoss-comic.webp", so it's not that secret.) Note also how the fascism is represented positively in comparison.

Elon Musk

Hey, did you ever want to see an Internet Nazi virtually fellate a millionaire?

He put this one on the announcement of the Stonetoss Threads account. I did not click on it.

This one is about Twitter ad revenue, something a lot of people definitely got and that definitely represented meaningful sharing of Twitter's profits.

The ADL is bullying poor Elon! (Again, the filename makes it clear that this is specifically the ADL). See the antisemitism block below for more on this.

Virulent Transphobia and Gay-Bashing poo poo

Pretty sure Stonetoss can only experience joy while actively concentrating on hating LGBTQ people. A lot of these are about grooming, because that's a line of attack the right has always found more effective in this particular part of the culture war. In the modern era, it's hard to sell the concept of "people shouldn't be allowed to do what they want with other consenting adults", so instead it's "but actually they are after your children and will pedophile them into gay sex demons".

Exhibit A.

This may be the stupidest and most evil argument I have heard in... well, okay, a few days at least.

Stonetoss makes victim-blaming into an art. Or whatever you want to call his terrible bullshit.

This is a really common subtheme in here - LGBTQ people are oppressing me by continually existing in public! Something must be done! Force them all back into the closet! (And in Stonetoss world, people being gay in public obviously means dog collars every time.)

Just Flat Out Racist poo poo

Did anyone ever tell you that other races are just plain worse than yours? Well, just in case nobody ever did...

Black people are just incapable of not killing you even when it's a bad idea for them to do so. Left wing people play right into this!

A movie happened. Also, remember the submarine guy who died above? Turns out it was because of DEI. No, seriously, the post attached to this comic makes it clear he really meant that. It wasn't because of the rich idiot overriding his designers or anything, they just shouldn't have hired anyone but white people to build it.

Antisemitic poo poo

Boy howdy! The bread and butter of any Nazi. Of course, he did some "regular" cartoons about Israel/Palestine as events were transpiring last year; I'm filing these under this heading because we all know why he's adopting the positions he adopts here.

(It's the Jews. He means the Jews.)

Getting in a little swipe at single-payer while he's at it here. If it weren't for the context, this is another one that might pass as a "standard" cartoon, since a lot of people (justifiably) criticized Israel for blowing up hospitals.

Everyone at Harvard is a Jew.

https://i.imgur.com/1bJmNl7.png

Here's that crossover with Sinfest. Linked for baby blood drinking. Uh, really, consider carefully if you want to click on this. I originally was going to put it in a spoiler but I don't want this in peoples' browser caches if they aren't clicking on it specifically.

This one might require some explanation. The USS Liberty was famously involved in a friendly-fire incident with Israel during the Six-Day War; Israeli fighters attacked it. The official explanation, based on investigation from both sides, is that they had mistaken it for an Egyptian ship. Conspiracy theorists have never let go of this one, even though it happened in 1967 and there doesn't seem to be a super strong case for why Israel would want to attack a ship from the US.

Also Walt Disney was often considered to be an antisemite. (The historical record on this is complicated, but he definitely did hang out with Leni Riefenstahl.)

And, lastly, Stonetoss is now selling plush figures of his klurfs. Yes, those are a real thing you can actually buy. I hope they are selling really badly, but I fear that may not be the case.
