Like anything with Alastor, you can never be sure. But I've said before; I think Alastor whatever his motivations does have a genuine soft spot for Charlie, and even a measure of respect- amusingly because Charlie's almost as likely to be constantly smiling as he is, and even if it's more because of her nature than an active facade, it has similar effects. Indeed, it inspires her friends and allies, and keeps her enemies guessing, her positivity clearly puts a lot of Hell off-guard because it's something they don't know how to deal with, especially sinners who are used to living in the worst-case scenario, but it even seems to work with the angels, who probably did not expect the emissary of Hell to be a sweet smiling cream puff who wants to see their petting zoo. Alastor is very 'game recognises game', even with people who are doing very different things than he does. And I think whether he's your ally or your enemy, he's still going to be a gadfly at the best of times.

Besides, regardless of why he’s actually doing all this he needs to protect his investment and with Adam’s forces literally about to break down their door, sharing that information is pretty much the only thing that’s going to motivate Charlie into action at this point. As I’ve said before, once they get over the tension from last week Vaggie should be a valuable asset as well since she used to be an Executioner herself and I imagine Emily’s going to do something to try and help from her end too

Just realised something sobering - Alastor knows angels can be killed. So the question become whether that method also applies to fallen angels. We know two fallen angels in the series.

This is just a frame of animation. People on twitter keep bringing this up to like it's significant because other frames of animation for Alastor up to this point went out of their way to keep a smile on all the talking frames but I just think they neglected to do that a couple times in this one. I don't think it's meant to be on purpose at all

i am gonna be stupid and weird here but did charlie just never notice vaggies scars. because if her wings were cut off/ripped out, then she must have scars unless is like a mech suit type deal. I mean charlie is also super oblivious and is the type who would never comment on that sorta thing but just curious.

I think someone being badly scarred immediately after an extermination isn't probably very suspicious for most people in hell. Even if the scars make it look like someone literally ripped off some appendages that were supposed to be on your back - while wings on sinner demons seem rareish, Husk has a pair and there are probably others.

Had wondered about the wing scars on her back myself but was able to write it off as Charlie being rather naive and taking things at face value. Vaggie could have told her anything and Charlie would have believed it. Demon fight, the angels tortured her, the whole eye thing helps to sell the lie easily. The question I'm really wondering is can demons kill her? She is still an angel and they can't be killed by demons via ordinary means. Betting when the attack happens or is a few minutes into it Emily will get it stopped. How? She'll rally Heaven to stop it. They didn't know. Do you think people in Heaven would want other human souls to be wiped out? I'm going to wager that's a no. Sure it's suppose to be the worse of the worse, except there is still a lot of probably not the worse of the worse down there, including family of those in Heaven. I can't imagine they'd be happy knowing those that didn't make it are being hunted and slaughtered every year.

There's a scene in the trailer of Charlie leading a revolt of some kind so I assume there will at least be a battle on their end before this is through.

Got myself caught up on the latest six episodes. Loved the pilot but it took me to episode 4 to really get on board. Man, so much of this show is too fast. I guess why Episode 4 stands out as the best is that the drama is focused on Angel Dust and takes its time to develop and the tension slowly builds. They threaded the needle rather deftly by starting the episode with dubcon jokes with Angel's porno films and then later in the episode having that scene where Valentino confront Angel in the change room and the direction utilizes a lot of sexually violent imagery while Angel's aloof demeanour breaks. The Angel/Valentino subplot is probably my favourite part of this show.

The shows play a bit fast and loose with how demons age, though hellborn seem to have more or less human life cycles. And it'd make sense- Emily is practically Heaven's mirror of Charlie, and it's pretty clear where Charlie gets her manic smiling energy from.

Flopsy posted:Fingers crossed season 2 has more breathing room. I suspect it might. Helluva boss season 1 has similar issues where season one while having a bunch of great issues was very meandering and breakneck. 2 has been slower. my issues so far are mostly the pacing being very rushed which i can understand given indie animation on streaming and how quick they are to kill stuff. also angels new voice never clicks for me, i think the original guy does a better job over all, that being said i do think part of the issue with the voice is that its an obvious put on which seeing everything in the show, works. i do think the new guy does a good job with having the voice and character break at the right times. I really like what they're setting up with Alastor here. If I may posit a guess I think he's on Eve's leash. And he's going to call in that favor with Charlie to free himself. Also love how the ending makes Sir Pentious the first successfully redeemed sinner in all of human history.

Overall a solid end to the season. I think my single biggest complaint with the whole show is that the 'ready for this' song from the trailer kind of sucked in practice. That son being an ear worm was what got me to watch Helluva Boss and Hazbin, but the trailer uses all the good parts of it while the episode cuts back and forth between the (Imho) terrible cannibal number. Overall the rest was great. Fun to watch Alastor chew the scenery and his fight with Adam. And I adored the menacing nature of his post injury rant. And oh Charlie you dumb girl. Didn't pick Sir Pentious as the one they'd off to show it worked, but honestly a better choice than angel as the latter is a more main cast member they want to stick around. Not sure what Lilith's whole deal is. Looks like she was in Heaven (maybe earth, but that seems less likely) and Adam being offed ended ended whatever she had going, but I can't tell if it was an exchange that ends because Adam isn't there to support it, or (and this was my first read) the deal was to have Adam killed. The latter doesn't feel like it makes sense since lute really did seem ride or die for Adam and shook up by his loss. Edit: On follow up, the Pentious thing feels kind of... weird. Particularly if heaven and hell are binary. If Emily did something to change the rules behind the scene, then it is just fine, but it is sort of silly otherwise. We've seen that not every soul in hell is bad, Carmilla was willing to sacrifice for her children and she's a drat overlord. It feels implausible that in 10,000 years no one marginally evil ended up in hell, resolved to change their ways and then died there. Caros fucked around with this message at 02:38 on Feb 2, 2024 |

That was a legitimately good finale, we see Adam’s face and more of Demon Charlie, interestingly Pentious is the first one to get redeemed instead of Angel, Adam dies but Lute survives and we finally get our first proper meeting with Lilith at the end (who seems to be in league with Lute and hiding out in heaven for some reason) Also Emily didn’t get nearly as much focus as I expected (she just makes a small cameo at the end with Sera) Hopefully we won’t have too long a wait for the next season and that it gets a bit more time to breathe compared to this one (though from what I’ve read there’s a chance we might not see Hazbin again until next year) Larryb fucked around with this message at 02:41 on Feb 2, 2024 |

So we all agree Adam's going to respawn in hell, right? Would actually make something click. Angels don't generally die and sinners don't generally put in the work to be redeemed. So the last step to getting "reassigned" being "you die again" makes some logical sense.

It would make a lot of sense, but would raise questions about people who already been killed and weren't reassigned. Are they super dead because they died again in their proper place or is there more to it? Not sure. When you introduce true death and afterlifes, these questions always get raised
