My first steps into Hildy were after having beaten ARR blind and was not warned about the massive amount of level 50 patch content. I was just desperately trying to clear out blue quests and this one took so drat long (because it was several entire storylines released over multiple patches).

Luckily I learned to actually enjoy them by the time I got to HW patch blues.

I also feel like the Hildi quests get better as they go, probably because the writing focuses less on "these characters are idiots! Look at them being idiots and everyone else staring at them!" ARR is definitely the roughest, especially since it's the longest by far, since it's functionally four arcs.

The very first trial for Hildibrand had the budget for voice acting which is a shame that none of the others got it.

Correction: both 80 and 100 on Fashion Report get you the same MGP reward of 60k. 100 just gets you a title achievement, and also I think the NPC vendor sells more stuff with cumulative Fashion Report score? But an 80 will get you full MGP.

I walked up to the fashion dude and presented myself in my ratty rear end level 15 kicks and got a 70/100 and 10,000 MGP. Their standards might be kinda low lol.

Finally, unlocked glamours and got excited to turn all my baby gear into glams, so I can play dress-up with my little guy. Only to discover that can't buy them after I used up the few you get to start, you have to craft them. So spent the next couple of days leveling up Bot and Carp, so I can actually craft more. A little deceptive with the level 15 unlock, but can't craft more until like level 25-30 with a gathering/crafting profession.

I do like the "emperor's new clothes" gear you can buy, so you can drop a blank appearance on a slot while still being geared.

I kind of wish there was a deduping function for the armory chest. Found out I had like 10 versions of a Hempen Kurta.

Didn't you mean to ask about flowers?
There's always the market board if you can afford it and aren't locked to free trial, I think.

When you hit level 30 and get a job stone with any class you can start to pvp by the duty finder with the daily frontline roulette. It will be baffling and confusing at first but in general go to the Wolves Den Pier(you should get a blue quest pushing you there), put your buttons on your new hotbar(they swap in pvp zones), practice on the dummy(right click the dummy and select "clear threat/enmity" or w/e to leave combat with dummies.) Follow the death ball, try to be useful, be aware of the movement of enemies towards objectives or trying to overrun and flank you. You may actually enjoy it! After about 20+ rounds it'll make sense.

The point of this is that you can get pvp points, which lead to cool glams and a cheap source of mass glam crystals if you can't afford to buy them. As well as the pvp season progress bar, a quick 5 levels(do the daily like 5-6 times) gets you an emote, more dedication gets pets and mounts and glams and special pvp points. All pvp and special pvp points lead to even more glams, more drip.

The daily queues/roulettes are a fantastic way to level alts, as well as to generate tomes later(I think from 50 on), which can get you good gear for cruising through the next expac as well as, you guessed it, drip.

You can get glam prisms for pretty cheap from the grand company vendor.

Yeah, the easiest source of glamour prisms is getting company seals (do the crafter/gatherer turnins if you can, and give them dungeon gear you've outlevelled) and buying them from the GC quartermaster. The crafting method is kind of a pain in the rear end unless you have the mats just lying around.

Kwyndig
Sep 23, 2006

Heeeeeey

The crafting method is inefficient compared to other methods. The raw materials may cost more than your finished prisms depending on your server's market and at lower levels you can spam Grand Company leves for both job exp and seals. It's not like you're doing anything else with your 100 leve allowance.

Yeah, there are like four other ways to get them that're more efficient than crafting them yourself.

Really, that's a good lesson in general. If something feels like it's inefficient and there should be a better way, there probably is, so ask someone who knows too much about the game.

For dupe checks, you can always right click on an item/linked item name and choose search, or type in /isearch name/part of name. It will search retainers, armory chest, regular inventory, and glam chest.

Just beat ARR+patches and wanted to vent my thoughts about it all:

ARR MSQ was fine, but not exactly noteworthy, if that makes any sense. You can tell a lot of filler quests got removed from it later on. Some quest hubs are only used for two quests, but the NPCs acting like you were there for ten. The quality does pick up at the end, which was nice.

The patch MSQ was much better. You can tell they had more time and money to polish everything, more voiced dialogue, more cutscenes, better direction, and less quest busywork.

Man, the story really kills Moenbryda quick, doesn't it? I enjoyed her personality, shame that's all we're getting.

I feel bad for Alphinaud. The Crystal Braves weren't a bad idea in theory, but it's clear they expanded too hard, too fast, and taking syndicate money doomed them from the start. It fits it with all the scions taking on too much at once, between Ul'da, Iceheart, the primals, the Ascians and whatever else, which leaves them exposed to falling for a plan they should have seen coming.

Speaking of, wow Teledji, you just couldn't stop talking, could you? Your whole scheme working perfectly, and you die anyway because you practically taunt Raubahn over it. I can see why Raubahn is most people's favourite city leader, him and Ul'da get way more focus than the others. Do Limsa and Gridania get similar focus later on?

Having just started Heavensward, the voice acting change has surprised me. Alphinaud's voice got far deeper all of a sudden.

I got Lancer/Dragoon to lvl 50 after starting as Arcanist, to go through Heavensward, it seems like the job most thematically appropriate, but I might change to Machinist or Astrologian later. I plan on saving Dark Knight for Shadowbringers, is that a good idea, or should I start it earlier?

Yes and no? They get some focus/scenes but nothing to quite that level.

Yes! They could finally afford to hire actual British people instead of just randos off the street putting on silly voices. They're by and large a substantial improvement (oh god ARR Alisaie)

Dark Knight is by far the best job storyline in the game and worth doing just for that (specifically right now, even). Also it's probably a good idea to level it sooner than later considering it'll be 40 levels to gain by the time SHB starts, and I guarantee going back to jank-rear end ARR content will be very low on your list of priorities by then.

Don't feel bad for him. He's a huge dumbass who deserves to get ruthlessly dunked on at every available opportunity. Luckily we have Alisaie to fill that role.

Limsa gets love every so often, Gridania uhm, well, if you follow up a few specific class and role quests...

To Teledji's very, very small credit he was at least gloating from a winning position. He just forgot that he was in an authority = power universe and he grossly underestimated how much his opponents minded falling on the wrong side of the law. Makes him look like a bit of a half-wit in hindsight. ;)

I'll always be a big fan of the Crystal Braves storyline even if I heard once that the devs sort of regret The Dinner, it was a pretty cool story and twists to alter Alphinaud's idealism and even his pampered upbringing. I like him a lot more from HW onwards so they really did the trick.

Justice for Moenbryda! Especially since she dies in the absolute worst early Ascian arc.

I think switching around jobs for each expansion could be fun but also exhausting as you deal with leveling, gearing, and job quests every time. My choice would be to figure out what role/roles you like best and focus on that/those. Like, playing Dark Knight for Shadowbringers is thematically appropriate but if you don't like tanking that's just another burden to deal with.
