It would presuppose anyone in the corporate news business having enough of a glimmer of self-respect/self-awareness/conscience to give a gently caress about showing war crimes; particularly those committed by Israel.

US intelligence officials estimate Tehran does not have full control of its proxy groups

Intelligence officials have calculated that Tehran does not have full control over its proxy groups in the Middle East, including those responsible for attacking and killing U.S. troops in recent weeks, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

The Quds Force — an elite branch of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps — is responsible for sending weapons and military advisers as well as intelligence to support militias in Iraq and Syria as well as the Houthis in Yemen. The groups have varying ambitions and agendas, which sometimes overlap, but Tehran does not appear to have complete authority over their operational decision-making, the officials said.

While the disclosure means it may be particularly hard to predict what actions these groups will take, it also could lower the chance of the U.S. getting pulled into a direct confrontation with Iran. Any indication that Tehran was directly involved in ordering or overseeing the attacks would make U.S. retaliation against Iran more likely.

Is this a true thing or just a way for the US to save face if it doesn’t retaliate to any given event and escalate the situation?

Best Friends

I think it’s pretty obviously true, the only remarkable thing is the US noticing and saying it to the media. The narrative until now has been that everyone we don’t like in the region is effectively in the Iranian chain of command and has zero independent thought or agendas from Iran, which has been an insane take.

Right-wing Israeli minister Amichai Chikli uninvited from Berlin conference amid backlash

quote:

Israeli government minister Amichai Chikli's planned participation at a German-Israeli conference in Berlin has been canceled amid public backlash, German daily newspaper TAZ reported Thursday.

The Likud lawmaker, who has faced widespread criticism for his far-right views, was invited to take part in the conference entitled "Joint Perspectives" on February 15 in the German capital, in which Germany's Justice Minister Marco Buschmann is due to give the opening address.

The event, which is co-organized by German daily newspaper Die Welt and The Jerusalem Post, announced that Chikli's invitation has been withdrawn after a number of other participants canceled their participation, including German author Düzen Tekkal.

"Although there were initial talks about the possible participation of Minister Chikli, he will not be attending the event," a spokeswoman for Die Welt told TAZ.

It was later announced that National Unity Party lawmaker Gideon Sa'ar – another right wing hardliner – will speak at the conference instead.

Chikli, who on Sunday was one of several government ministers to take part in a far-right conference in Jerusalem calling for the re-settlement of the Gaza Strip and the displacement of its Palestinian population, has faced widespread public criticism worldwide for his far-right and homophobic statements.

On Monday, he met with a delegation of senior members from the Swedish Democrats – a Swedish far-right party which has roots in neo-Nazi and holds antisemitic ideologies, and is one of several European parties with which Israel has refrained from establishing official ties.

Thread consensus last time around was "because that's what the US would do", but the US is the grandmaster champion of supporting some group with weapons and intelligence only to completely lose control over them later (case in point: Iran, lmao), so imo the answer is just that americans are stupid.
