Hah, thrown out due to statute of limitations, but frankly even here it would be thrown out on the merits - Steele wasn't the one who leaked the dossier, so being on the hook for it's leak would set insane precedents on all kinds of professions.

Some juicy gossip is that maybe Engoron delayed his verdict until Monday because the recent Receivers report about the $48 million ‘loan’ that now never existed needed to be addressed.

Which would be amazing but also make sense. He would be the one to get that report and rely on it for part of his decision.

I had this same thought, although the "delay" is more a function of people relying on a general "end of January" timetable comment rather than anything concrete.

But it would make sense for that imaginary loan to be something he takes into account.

The narcissist in my life relayed a story. Her family was on the way to some kind of outing. She was 10 years old, had done something to her younger sister, and while her mother was tending to her sister in the house, her father went off on her. Telling her she was an awful, no good kid for her actions. Just the worst. According to her, this was not just a knee-jerk, parent at their limit response that he later apologized for saying. This went on for minutes with her in tears and shame over the action but then re-enforced by her father instructing her that she was awful. I felt both a) heartbroken over hearing this and b) realized this kind of event had to have happened more than once. My parents were at their limits with me a few times but I never received anything close to that.

As an adult, when a narcissist receives not just the kind of direct feedback about negative actions that the rest of us might face for a misdeed, but even the whiff of criticism, they go back to these events in their upbringing. It's beyond painful so they will go to the farthest extreme to defend themselves. Responses that are beyond any kind of justification the rest of us could ever comprehend doing ourselves.

That is my understanding of what goes on in the mind of a narcissist. But I have no idea what to do with that knowledge to counter the behavior and based on the continued, lifelong actions of 77 year old Donald Trump, nobody in his life does either.

Everything bad that happened to me was supposedly my fault until I was 16 and I got out of the resulting dark place at 21. I also don't think I'm inherently better than anyone or that smart. Has your narcissist been told straight-up by you or anyone that this story is why she's like that? Seems like this one's gonna get there eventually, preferably with help since that's a lot faster. I am able to take a crack at people like that, doesn't really work often to my knowledge and if it's sociopathy as well, hope they fall in love because that's a wrap for what you can do.

The only thing to do with that information about Trump is make something that looks very in his self-interest and is very the opposite.

London — A judge in London on Thursday threw out a lawsuit by former U.S. President Donald Trump accusing a former British spy of making "shocking and scandalous claims" that were false and harmed his reputation. Judge Karen Steyn said there were "no compelling reasons" to let the case Trump filed against Orbis Business go to trial.

The company was founded by Christopher Steele, who created a dossier in 2016 that contained rumors and uncorroborated allegations that caused a political storm just before Trump's inauguration.

I get the logic behind a search warrant having a time limit otherwise there's plenty of ways the cops could harass people, but it is amazing to me that if you can hold the gate long enough against the battering ram they have to give up and go home.

Ex-Trump Org. CFO in talks to plead guilty to perjury charge tied to civil fraud investigation

quote:

The former chief financial officer of the Trump Organization is in talks to potentially plead guilty to a perjury charge related to a civil investigation into the real estate company’s finances, people familiar with the matter said.

Allen Weisselberg, the former CFO, is in negotiations with the Manhattan district attorney’s office, but the talks are in the early stages and a deal has not been finalized, the people said. The potential charges relate to testimony Weisselberg gave in an interview with the New York attorney general’s office and at the related civil fraud trial of former President Donald Trump last year, one of the people said.

The talks could fall apart without a deal being reached.

If Weisselberg does reach a deal to plead guilty, it would be the second plea from Trump’s former longtime lieutenant, who in 2022 pleaded guilty to 15 criminal charges related to tax fraud and served 100 days in New York City’s Rikers Island jail. He testified at the criminal tax fraud trial of two Trump Organization entities, which were convicted and fined.

As part of the current deal under negotiation, the people said, Weisselberg is not cooperating against his former boss and is not expected to be called as a witness in the criminal trial scheduled to start next month.

Trump was indicted on 34 counts of felony counts of falsifying business records as part of a scheme to reimburse his former attorney for making payments to bury allegations of an affair before the 2016 presidential election. Trump has denied the affair and has pleaded not guilty to the charges. A number of Trump associates were called before the grand jury to give testimony, but Weisselberg was not among them.

Weisselberg’s attorney, Seth Rosenberg, could not immediately be reached for comment. A spokesperson for Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney, declined to comment.

The New York Times first reported that Weisselberg was in talks with prosecutors to resolve the investigation.

The district attorney’s office has pressured Weisselberg for months about potential charges related to insurance fraud and perjury.

It isn’t clear which statements Weisselberg would agree were false testimony. Weisselberg, who is also a defendant in the civil fraud lawsuit, was called as a witness by the New York attorney general’s office and testified at the trial last year. He was grilled over how the Trump Organization’s financial statements were composed and how they derived values for Trump’s properties.

The New York attorney general’s office is seeking more than $370 million in disgorgement from Trump as well as a ban from doing business in the state. A judge is expected to issue his findings this month.

May be related to the delay in Egoron's ruling.
