No one wants to lose in the first round every year as a ceiling while there’s some kinda terrible stuff happening on the field. And Russ was such a freaking weirdo.

I felt hope at 2010, due to a new regime, and the Seahawks subsequently went to the Super Bowl. How does that invalidate my judgment? Then after the pats Super Bowl loss and the team started falling apart I didn’t feel any optimism until about 2019 due to the soft rebuild. They managed to win a playoff game (albeit against a team without a starting quarterback) that season. I have not been optimistic about Seattle since and they have won zero playoff games since then. If anything that validates my judgment.

Seattle did not have a decade of spectacular failure. Seattle had plenty of regular season wins and a fun franchise qb. But since 2016 they’ve had two playoff wins and one was against a team starting a backup qb. Obviously recent seattle history is more fun as a fan than poo poo tier situations like recent Carolina history. But being stuck in the middle doldrums loving sucks. You don’t get the hype of top draft picks, you don’t get the hope of building towards something greater, and you don’t get the hope of a new regime. The regular season isn’t as fun and the playoffs are frustrating. Especially when it’s the same drat issues every season. We (Seattle) still need to figure out an OC so don't get too far ahead of yourself. We've been pretty lucky in our coaching for a long while minus Mora, so I count our blessings.

Relentlessboredomm posted:i don't think Dan Quinn is a bad hire but its certainly not exciting. a lot will depend on his choice of OC. honestly a few years of steady mediocrity would be a massive improvement for the commanders at this point and building up a real front office is a big part of that. The problem is that if the QB they take at 2 is good but the coach isn't, they're throwing away the biggest competitive advantage a NFL team can get: a star QB on a rookie contract. A lot will depend on his assistants, but Quinn's defense gets eaten alive by all the Shanahan/McVay disciples because its tendencies are so well known at this point, and there are more and more of those playcallers proliferating around the league these days. So I guess we can safely say Jayden Daniels won't be falling past 13

Then the 2022 Rams happened and that was a disaster. But he also got Kentucky back up to super middling offense in 2023 after the Rams canned him and he went back after they cratered when he left. I don't know, he does something. I'm not sure how good he can do it at the NFL level (let alone college), but numbers tick up a bit as long as Matt Stafford doesn't try to play through an injury he shouldn't? He's probably the most responsible for getting Will Levis drafted for whatever that's worth.

Nope, still no optimism. In fact that was one of the most frustrating parts. It sucks when the team has an elite franchise qb yet the team refuses to maximize that opportunity. That’s why I’m so happy that the Chargers finally got a good coach for Herbie this offseason
