At this point, WP and a lot of other publications better hope so, or they'll have to take a hard look at who they consider reliable sources.

Even if it turns out to be true, I find it weird that it has been almost exclusively British and American publications pushing this story.

Sorry I went back like 10 pages but got some questions (I haven't popped in in awhile) -

1) What's up with Ukraine funding? I saw the EU stepped in, my understanding is the US Ukraine funding died with the border bill.

2) How's the war going overall besides fun POV kamkikaze drones hitting?

3) Did we work around congress obstruction? I see tidbits about it in the thread but nothing definitive.

Net articles suck.

There was some chatter about moving Ukraine bills separately now that the border package is dead. No idea if that'll work, but if the GOP gets funding for Israel they might tolerate funding for Ukraine.

Biden's been working around Congress by shuffling new weapons to allies, who in turn hand over their older stocks to Ukraine.

Well for #2 Russia is very (very) slowly closing in on Avdiivka, a city formerly of 30,000 that is surrounded on three sides.
Pres Z wants to defend it, the Ukraine top military guy wanted to give it up and regroup so he probably was let go we're not sure yet.
No side can really do anything more than moving a border by 0.01% a month without clear air superiority, or one side collapsing/running out of men and stuff

one side collapsing doesn't look super likely any time soon, for what that's worth. russia is showing more signs of general war fatigue than ukraine in that we've gotten a number of credible reports about protests against the war decently away from the front, but between the relatively small scale and the very high level of central control in russia, nobody expects that to turn into a general anti-war groundswell any time soon.

There's been a couple large for Russia protests about the war and overall Putin is unhappy with the wives of dead soldiers constantly doing things like talking about their dead husbands.

The prigohzin rebellion was the opening salvo in what could become a serious problem for the Putin regime over the course of this year and next. Winter is brutal in Russia and it has been slightly worse this year due to fuel shortages and mismanagement of allocations. Who knows what happens next year if things continue and key infrastructure continues to lose its ability to service energy goods. Or other goods for that matter.

The 50 billion Euro fron the EU is not military aid, if the US doesn't get its poo poo together, Ukraine will continue to experience shortages in ammunition and equipment. In theory, Russia holds big advantages in manpower and materiel. In practice, they've been unable to convert those advantages into tangible results.

Maybe they'll get to plant a flag on the ruins of Avdiivka after losing mindboggling amount of men and equipment there.

Frustrated by this shortfall, Prague is pushing EU countries to finance the purchase of what it estimates are 450,000 rounds of artillery available outside the bloc, four diplomats and a person familiar with the talks told POLITICO.

When the EU was calibrating its military aid commitments in early 2023, France — the bloc’s defense industry leader — had been pushing to make sure that subsidies were focused only on local production, rather than being funnelled abroad.

But the Czech call raises the prospect that Europe would turn instead to arms companies in South Korea, Turkey and South Africa. The EU’s top diplomat Josep Borrell specifically mentioned that Korea — a major weapons producer — could be tapped for extra shells, according to the official.

Wait it was an option all along and we haven't been doing it :negative:

I actually agree with Macron there that it was important to boost EU capacity but that shouldn't be instead of maximizing supplies from all possible sources. Nobody ever said they have too many artiller shells to fire at russians.

I don't think so? their cool coms system didn't work for poo poo however so in the early days they had to resort to using phones... on the Ukrainian networks... meaning the Ukrainians could listen in on everything.

As I understand it, Turkeys attitude towards Armenia is about 25% "we will never forgive you for what we've done to you," 25% favoring the Azerbaijani in their feud against Armenia, and 50% pure, heartless realpolitik.
