If the economy is still getting better by then yeah I think Trump can lose by a fair amount.

We're still only a few months into a improving economy after a, by economists' standards, fairly soft landing compared to the rest of the world. So Biden's number should continue to improve by a fair amount too.

If the economy was still crappy then I think it easily could've been a squeaker though.

Hakeem Jeffries could probably muster up enough Dem volunteers to bail him out, and probably would if it Johnson played ball on consensus legislation. He could remain speaker, but he'd be a Dem puppet in all but name. And if he ever broke faith with Jeffries, he'd get the McCarthy treatment.

Christ, I'd already forgotten how pissed McCarthy was that the Dems didn't ride to his rescue out of decorum.

Yes but it isn’t very often that the challenger is a former president, let alone a populist demagogue

Yeah, he can't win. Though Republicans will probably just kill the bill if it comes to a vote.

I mean still making threats to run an independent campaign if it ends up Trump vs Biden, while not putting forward any viable GOP or Dem candidate in the primary, so.... really just trying to threaten primary voters. But since no viable candidate ever emerged?

The people funding Haley's campaign are all going to fall in line with Trump eventually anyway, so I don't know who they think is going to fund this independent run.

There's an element of truth to that, but about 47% of voters pulled the lever for an openly fascist, racist, misogynistic, lying, raping, fraudulent piece of poo poo in 2020. He was barely beaten by a candidate that still publicly declared his intent to govern on behalf of capital. No one else involved got any real public traction at any point. As much as people's brains have been melted by corporate media for decades, that's an indictment of the electorate as well as the underlying system.

I always reflexively remind myself that Trump supporters will unhesitatingly hurl every one of these words (and plenty more) at Biden, and will reject out of hand any suggestion that they might apply to Trump.

"Yeah but the difference is that in our case it's true" right but what if we are the delusional ones you guys

I do this because it's allegedly a healthier mindset to be capable of and receptive to self-doubt, but at some point I feel like it would be a lot easier to just ... not. And no less productive

-is is the 3rd declension nominative singular, the plural of which is -es. So it would be Desantes. However I think it is already correctly formed. -is can also be the 1 declension ablative plural, which can sort of mean 'belonging to'. So 'de Santis' already sort of means those that belong to the line of Santo. Someone can check my work I sucked at Latin.

As someone with a PhD in Latin I can verify that “De Santis” is from “Dē Sanctīs” which is a prepositional phrase featuring a preposition that takes the ablative case. “From/of the line of holy ones”, or more idiomatically, “Saintly Family”

If you know that a huge chunk of the voters' brains are mushed by corporate media and/or other forms of propaganda then that sure sounds like a propaganda problem (which is really a rich rear end in a top hat problem) than a voter problem.

We'll probably eventually have a candidate that can be broadly construed as such (at least during the campaign), they'll probably just be largely ineffectual outside of rhetoric and executive orders. An updated 2008 Obama basically. That's fine though, Americans by and large don't seem to really understand or care about anything else.

Biden is apparently toying with options for recognizing Palestine to pressure Bibi into accepting a cease fire proposal. I don't think it'll happen, but if that taboo is broken it'll be a lot easier for "candidate that people actually like" to follow up on.
