Paradoxish posted:Also anyone who says they want to be a teacher but who doesn't just go do it is full of poo poo. Teaching is hard and it sucks and the barriers to entry are shockingly low for anyone who already has a college degree. Everyone who whines about how much they'd love to teach is doing a stupid humblebrag or trying to prove that they're a good person or some hosed up combination of the two. Wife is entering Cert/Masters program through local university using state money to become a teacher. The current conditions to becoming a teacher are favorable, the year of course work in between residency hours is arduous, but like possible if you have American dream support network. I've read the 3 year roadmap and it seems fine both logistically and academically. It's kinda silly tho, because we are really hoping she gets accepted to local university where they know the local school districts for placement and the payment scheme will be slightly cash flow positive for the household.. She applied to NYU as a safety school, they accepted her as soon as the credit report cleared and the highschool diploma got id'd her as being from landed gentry. That school will not be household cash flow positive, but that's why it's a safety school.

the rural low paying schools tho are “useful” for teachers Because they can easily start working at those in their early 20s and get the experience to move to a suburb school where they do the bulk of their years rural schools constantly lose talented teachers and staff this way.

speaking of teach workers, looking at the tech youtube scene it's weird to see every tech influencer/youtubber reacting like the useless specialists got fired or over hiring is what lead to this and the good programmers will remain but i really doubt less than 70% of the audience of these youtubbers is a good programmer and ofc the solution they peddle is to get better than everyone else also lol @ one saying that the years of getting office masseuses is over, mfer u had massages?! i really hosed up Paradoxish posted:I don't know where you are, but it's not super common in my experience for American teachers to move around much. Lots of schools are filled with lifers who have taught at the same high school or whatever for decades. I'm almost forty and probably half of my high school teachers who were under 40 when I was in school are still there today. here in portugal you might get allocated to a school in a small village because due to years of periphery migration there's barely any people left there or infrastructures since peopled moved to the urban centers

triple sulk posted:I'd be interested in electrical work, but from everything I understand it can be a fairly miserable job even if you can eventually make pretty good money. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it's just what I feel like I remember reading in places like this forum. I don't even know how you'd really get started with that, assuming it isn't overloaded with people having the same idea. Electricians have a great gig - the work isn't going away and you can make good money in short order. Biggest complaint I hear about is that is dealing with shitheads while you're an apprentice/journeyman Electrical design is a lot less rough but you'll need a decent amount of training before you can learn on the job. Basically a draftsperson who specializes. Can start high 20s and work your way up, you won't be able to really make a salary jump unless you can outright do electrical survey and design on your own without guidance from an engineer though. At that point you're effectively an electrical engineer. I took the route of electrical engineering degree to electrical engineer/designer. Lots more school but didn't have to deal with bullshit in the field, for better and for worse Not a Children has issued a correction as of 18:28 on Feb 7, 2024 |

Medical field in general often feels like the tedious and difficult tasks are performed by the lowbies, only for the top dog to come in, poke around for 5mins and go "mm hmm looks good". Same with dentists, outside of actual extensive repairs they just come in after the hygenist is done, poke your teeth a bit with a spiky tool then move on.
