For a lot of these kids, Covid and the lockdowns is their starting point of getting wrapped up in crime/degeneracy as it gave them nothing but time and opportunity to organize and/or detach from the little structure that many of them had at home.

This is all vibes with no supporting evidence. Go look at violent crime rates of 40-50 years ago and contrast it with today. Don’t like 40-50 years ago? Try even 20 years ago, especially youth perpetration of serious crimes.

Chik Fil A gives away a free chicken sandwich to the first 100 customers at a new location, which is why you see those lines every time one opens.

If the average time at the window was 90 seconds (seems ambitious unless everyone was getting a free chicken sandwich and nothing else), the 100th person in line would spend 2.5 hours for a free ~$3 sandwich. Minus fuel cost. Minus the mental cost of spending 2.5 hours in a fast food line.

Also that assumes the 100th person showed up the moment they opened. They’ve probably been there all night so even bigger lol.

Apparently it's a free sandwich per week for a year. So a bit more worthwhile but still a major pain in the rear end.

Yeah, it's absolutely bonkers.

A few years back, I was stationed in a city that never had a Chick Fil A. When one opened, there was that same level of insane traffic. I don't remember if they even bothered offering free food.

Anyway, a few of my technicians had to come in on a weekend to install a bunch of VPN concentrators and servers. I told the other NCOs to stay home and enjoy their weekends, and I went in to head up the effort. I knew it would take all morning and part of the afternoon, so I was planning to order pizza or something, but my (brand new) butterbar insisted she'd bring food at noon. Didn't say what kind of food, and in retrospect I should have asked.

The day of the installation rolled around. We were working in a SCIF, so I couldn't exactly pull out my phone and text for updates.

1245 rolled around, I called her from a landline to make sure she didn't forget or get hit by a car or something. She said she's in line at the drive-through, no worries. Cool.

1330. Couldn't reach her on her cell. I ordered pizza.

1430. Solidly two and a half hours later, she rolled in with Chick Fil A, long after we'd already gorged ourselves on pizza and finished up installing our servers. I'd already cut most of my guys lose and only a couple of us were left to run configs. She'd been in line the whole time. I brought home enough food to feed myself for a solid week, and had a nice chat about managing expectations.

She ultimately turned out to be my favorite officer and a good human being, one of the very few USAFA grads that escaped that cesspit as a normal and well-adjusted person, but it def wasn't a terrific first impression for the technicians who'd been waiting for lunch.

Anyway, what I'm getting at is, it's absolutely nuts that people will subject themselves to hours-long lines to get fast food. Like, poo poo, even setting aside the ethics of any particular place like Chick Fil E, with that kind of wait time you could either cook your own meal or pay for a chef at a bona fide restaurant to make it for you.

A court martial would be dumb on just about every level. Chaptering is most likely. I’ve seen a soldier get chaptered within the span of a week. Started on a Monday, he was gone Friday morning. That’s what happens when you piss off not just one colonel (your brigade commander), but throw in another (the garrison commander).

Getting your crimes on national media bodes well for the “you’re an embarrassment and we want: you loving gone” angle.

Separately, when I was living in Oklahoma it was definitely "a thing" to slam into any new place that just opened no matter the wait. A new Krispy Kreme opened when I was there and it was slammed with like 30+ minute lines for the first month it opened. When another location opened not far away a while later, same thing... people there are weird about that poo poo.

Chaptered is the legal and paperwork process for "GTFO, you're done". The details of which paperwork and how it's filed determine a lot of other things later down the road but the immediate impact is "Your services here are no longer needed turn in your equipment the guards will escort you out."

Of course sometimes the process takes months, sometimes you piss off the right people and it takes less than a week like above.

https://twitter.com/TheReloadSite/status/1755447118326636996?t=FQcxh91mmzBjJYUhmsS5xA&s=19

quote:

Hawaii’s Supreme Court reversed a lower court decision that found charges leveled against Christopher Wilson for carrying a gun without a permit violated his rights. Instead, the court ruled its state constitution provides no gun-rights protections whatsoever. That’s despite it including a provision protecting the right of the people to keep and bear arms identical to the one in the federal Constitution.

“Article I, section 17 of the Hawaiʻi Constitution mirrors the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution,” the Hawaiian court wrote in Hawaii v. Wilson. “We read those words differently than the current United States Supreme Court. We hold that in Hawaiʻi there is no state constitutional right to carry a firearm in public.”
---
“As the world turns, it makes no sense for contemporary society to pledge allegiance to the founding era’s culture, realities, laws, and understanding of the Constitution. ‘The thing about the old days, they the old days.’ The Wire: Home Rooms (HBO television broadcast Sept. 24, 2006) (Season Four, Episode Three).”

Instead of American history, the Hawaii court looked at the island’s pre-American history for guidance on the protections provided by its state constitution.

“We reject Wilson’s constitutional challenges,” the court wrote. “Conventional interpretive modalities and Hawaiʻi’s historical tradition of firearm regulation rule out an individual right to keep and bear arms under the Hawaiʻi Constitution.”

The judges concluded Hawaii’s unique spirit overrode SCOTUS’s view that its citizens are entitled to gun rights.

“The spirit of Aloha clashes with a federally-mandated lifestyle that lets citizens walk around with deadly weapons during day-to-day activities,” the Hawaiian Supreme Court wrote. “The history of the Hawaiian Islands does not include a society where armed people move about the community to possibly combat the deadly aims of others.”
