I'm hoping that's just water, given her holding an open thermos in hand. Someone on the internet once mentioned that their local pumps have water dispensers that that look like the petrol ones, which strikes me as an absurd safety booboo, but I want to believe.

I had to retreat off a pretty hairy ice climb once because it started storming and visibility went to nothing and it was so cold that the rope/slings froze while we were setting up the rappell and I can still hear the sound of the ice on the rope cracking when i put weight on it. Definitely thought I was dead for a few seconds until the rope stopped stretching B-Rock452 fucked around with this message at 11:45 on Feb 9, 2024 |

Aaaaah get away from the loving line you gently caress. Yeah, "Danger" indeed. Danger to the person behind the line when it snaps and whips back. Stand at the side if you have to, but not directly behind. Jfc.

One of the fatal accidents at Disneyland was the result of when a clueless manager attempted to tie a mooring line from a moving ship onto a cleat. The line didn't snap, the dockside cleat sheared off and flew through the air into the crowd and fatally beaned a tourist on the head. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1999-mar-26-mn-21222-story.html Cal/OSHA is an agency with teeth, so instead of being assessed a $2,000 slap on the wrist fine they were assessed a brutal $12,500 fine!

Speaking of iceland and petrol bowsers: We were driving somewhere near Vik and needed to fuel up. We stopped at an unattended petrol station in our rented subaru. About a quarter of the way through filling up, petrol started flowing out from the base of the bowser. There was no way to access it and nobody at the station. It was flowing really fast and chanelling into storm drains. I really hope they had some sort of stormwater quality system. There was nothing we could do so we just drove off from the ignition hazard. We stopped at another petrol station and told somebody but they seemed nonplussed and very icelandic about it all. In retrospect starting the car was probably not a great idea.

Petrol burns more easily than diesel, but you could flick lit matches into a bucket of petrol and it wouldn't ignite. There's nothing on your car that would have caused spilled petrol to ignite that wouldn't have caused it to ignite with the car off but still hot. Gasoline spilling into the storm drain is still a bad thing environmentally.

It was on purpose. A worker noticed this guy ?stuck? on the footings near the bottom of a weir in australia, so they winched a log down for him to grab on and get him to shore, fed him some carp, and let him go on his way
