Goddamn, ems and fd chat. These entities are funded different by state and can also vary by town. Some states do not fund these services at all resulting in an emergency services that is volunteer only and self funded. Some are funded by state lines and reinforced with local ones. Those are typically underfunded like all city government poo poo and supplemented by sexy calendars, diarrhea contests, and chicken dinners. We sell some old equipment to places like Afghanistan to also supplement our emergency services. It’s never enough. Most states that fund EMS, combined and demanded ems and fd personnel be the same people. This hosed with pensions because in getting fired from being an FD or EMS person, you lost tenure and pensions restarted. Looking at you, Ohio. It’s a massive and insane and makes us all unsafe. The worthless bs of calling them lazy and overfunded really lends itself to making everyone feel like no one cares. It’s great.

The reason ambulance calls usually get accompanied by a whole fire truck nowadays is because an increasing number of the people requiring emergency services are too large for just a couple of EMTs to move.

Also firefighters dont seem to be very expensive for the service they provide - FDNY cost 2.15b or\ ~2% of NYC's budget in FY 2022 different source, but NYPD was 10 billion
