Dumb thought: Spellweaver Helix in a Slime Against Humanity (or Dragon's Approach) deck. Every time you Slime/Approach, you get a copy of another sorcery for free.

Outside of the extremely obvious broken thing to do with this (extra turn spells), what are some fun ideas to pair with Slime Against Humanity/Dragon's Approach on this?

For Mono Green You're gonna be making wurm tokens or tutoring creature cards into play. You can't really copy these slime tokens since the spell puts counters on them. An overrun effect could be funny. Desert Twister might be good.

Mono-Red - Brass's Bounty would be cool, Goblin Game if you don't want friends anymore, Insurrection would be fun

Am I remembering that there was a goon here who used Stable Diffusion (or dalle) to make custom art for their proxies? I was hoping to find the post where they detail their process; I've been tinkering with SD and thought it'd be a fun project to do the same for a Volrath Shapestealer deck I'm brewing.

I tried looking through the thread but can't remember when this was!

Yeah, having AI art that looks neat if you don't look too closely might sound fun, but I guarantee everyone will be more likely to say "hey, that's really cool" if it's your own art, even if it's Maro-level crayon drawings. Maybe especially if.

Huh? What?

hey all, looking for feedback on a deck i'm making for a beginner who's still learning magic but wants to be able to play when they come to visit later this year. they played other stuff like yugioh so they aren't a complete beginner to general TCG stuff, but I wanted their first deck to be something pretty straightforward (mono-color, mostly combat focused, some interaction and cards that can let them learn quirks of commander or how to be reactive or capitalize on situations but nothing too particularly complicated or keyword-heavy), so I settled on a brimaz deck - it's not meant to be very tuned and there's definitely more anthems than the deck really needs (to have some obvious stuff to replace when they're ready to start looking at upgrading).

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/DrZp4NyM7EKeuHem4M0RGQ

Does this deck seem like it'd be a good enough starting place for a new player, and are there any cards I missed that would be worth considering?

I shuffled this up on moxfield and ran some sample games out to turn 5 and it's absolutely miserable to play. There's no decision making, the mana is sketchy, and the payoff is getting a handfull of 3/3s to swing with on like turn 6. It folds to all removal is slow as dirt. I know you are trying to keep it simple, but this kind of deck would honestly turn a lot of people off to the game. It's simply boring.

If you want it to be better, it needs to run the cards that actually make white good, which are unfortunately are usually pricy or staxy. It also needs better mana (I wound up taking a hand with Myriad Landscape + Plains + Mind Stone and bricking for 4 turns, why do you even run Myriad Landscape?). It also needs a way to finish because like six 3/3s isn't scaring anyone.

For a mono color deck you could always eat glue play mono green. It's cheap, tons of options to pick from, and requires only a handful of brain cells to make it work

edit: also it does some fantastic splashy poo poo that's perfectly enticing for new players

Kind of in the same vein, but take a look at this Myrel, Shield of Argive deck. It's Soldier Tribal, as opposed to splitting your attention between Cats and Soldiers, still Mono-White, and still focused on BEATS. The average mana value of the deck is 1.78 with lands and 2.79 without lands.

I didn't include Teferi's Protection for $$$ reasons, but it's an easy add. There's also Clever Concealment, which I didn't include because it has Convoke.

I guess the deck I linked is also twice as expensive as the one you linked. Sorry about that!

As a roundabout way to answer what you’ve asked, you reminded me of a LoadingReadyRun video from the end of 2022 where Wheeler and Serge play Canadian Highlander with Judge’s Tower between rounds.

It’s one of my favorite pieces of Magic video content on the Internet. The whole stream is fun.

And if you check the video’s description, there is a decklist for the Judge’s Tower that they use, so hopefully that can get you started with a list.

Card value they're all pretty similar, but Bant appears to be the popular one this set and Wizards only sells them to stores in packs of 4 which means that the popular one always gets super overpriced very quickly.

Played some games last night with two new decks, Jinnie Fay and Sauron. Sauron was kind of a mess; I got to do some stuff, but was overrun by Eldrazi. I need more wraths. That's a problem with my playgroup - everyone likes to go wide, and no one likes to play wraths.

Jinnie Fay is amazing to play. I'm sorry that it might replace Rin and Seri for my main deck, which might be okay because I can turn Rin and Seri into a cat and dog showpiece with alt art and all that. Turning treasures and clues into cats is incredible value. One game I had Rose Room Treasurer and Prosperous Partnership out, so on everyone's turn I was making so many cats. I lost that game because the Volo player made way too many tokens with all their copy effects, and their tokens are copies of creatures so they have actual value other than attacking. That one turned into a three-way stalemate after one player was eliminated. Everyone had a few dozen tokens and no one wanted to do math. I'm looking to add some stalemate-breakers to the list.

Craterhoof Behemoth, Moonshaker Cavalry, and just good ol' Overrun sorceries (Overrun, Triumph of the Hordes, Overwhelming Stampede). There's also Akroma's Will and Eldrazi Monument. You have a lot of choices for Stalemate-Breakers. Hell, you can run Hour of Reckoning and Winds of Abandon as one sided (or mostly one-sided) wraths.

Yeah Craterhoof and the other Overrrun style effects are obvious, but those sometimes don't even break through or require too much math. Something like Akroma's Will to make my creatures literally unblockable is more appealing. Maybe even Akroma's Blessing and Spare from Evil.

You have 2 red decks at board stall tables with no way to close out. No single card is going to fix this because you've run into the dead end people hit at battle cruiser tables before they figure out the only way to reliably win VS 3 players is combo. That said, you should definitely run Insurrection in both decks to maximize salt.
