Expendable Anti-Tank also works on bot ships if you can't convince a buddy to help you reload and want to crash dropships on pubs minimize bot drops. Make sure to aim for as dead center of one of the four engines as possible (the body of the engine, not the exhaust port).

I've been able to beat Helldiver difficulty missions relying on well-placed rocket/mortar sentries, 380MM strikes, and carrying an autocannon/backpack. I find the robo missions slightly easier because less bile, but my squadmates seem to feel the opposite.

Probably didn’t help that the first bug planet was kind of a flat and boring snow environment.

Fighting the robots on the jungle planet is next level poo poo, though. You could have built the entire game around this - persistent war against terminators in the jungle. The use of artillery at night hits different, and the foliage reacts exactly the way it should with trees getting shredded. Robots screaming out of smoke and fog.

Someone give these guys the Warhammer 40K license and some decent network techs and baby, you got a stew going!

Woke up early today to help spread managed democracy throughout the galaxy, only to run into server issues. I don't think the team expected this game to be such a hit, I'm not surprised their servers are melting considering how popular this game has turned out to be.

Guess I'll fight these communist insects and socialists terminators later today!

I mean it’s published by Sony and it’s been pushed at multiple State of Plays, they knew it would do numbers.

And, again, a public stress test would have let them see how this shook out before launch

After getting over the initial shock of Automatons being VERY spooky, my next impression was that not having to deal with chargers makes things feel easier. With adequate radar use I was never surprised to see a fat mech or even a tank. Drop ships are easier to notice, being up in the air. Only thing I keep getting spooked by is assault units trying to blow up in your face.

Helldiving feels like exactly the sort of thing Space Marines would do. I'd love to see a shameless ripoff of this game in the 40k setting, complete with guardsmen awed at your arrival of course.

You could also easily add zombies to this game, as trite as it is I'd love to blast through a suburb like you see in the trailer. I never played Helldivers 1 but someone in a twitch chat said they'd even have to defend Super Earth itself once the playerbase started dwindling down and campaigns were being lost.

Autocannons are very, very strong. Couple of shots will pop any fat bug. If you're careful you can pick off sentries before they have a chance to call the dropships, and focus fire can bring the ships down before they unload.

It's great, it's currently my favourite support weapon as well. Enough power to bring down priority enemies really quick, but you also get so much ammo that you don't have to feel bad about popping a couple smaller targets of opportunity while you're at it. Plus the feel and style of it is just impeccable. Though I haven't yet tried it against the truly heavy targets like automaton tanks, I'd imagine it'd suffer a bit against those.

What is the deal with the twitch drops for this? It doesn't let me link because it says I don't have the minimum required whatevers, do I need to watch the stream (looks like later today there's some going) and then link it to redeem it? Feels backwards from the usual thing where you had to link before being eligible.

bugs feel way way harder than bots unless there's some major new threats on 7-9 difficulty

This game is a blast. Was playing with some friends last night and we somehow ended up on a "hunt the bile bug" mission on way too hard of a difficulty. We find it and drop all of our supplies to get ready. My wife notices a big unexploded bomb as we go in and calls it out. We attack and it immediately goes to poo poo. As the bile bug was chasing my wife she says "I'm going to pull it towards the bomb" and then proceeds to insta-gib it and herself after setting it off. Wild.

We hadn't done much damage to it, so that bomb must have been a doozy. We somehow managed to scramble to the evac and get out. At the stat screen after evac it showed that she did 7k friendly fire damage, which I assume was how much damage that bomb did to her in one shot.

What a hero. :patriot:

Yeah it's exactly that and it is backwards.

Watch an hour on your account > claim the reward in twitch > now you can login to the site and claim your code.

The chest armor is worth it though, it has the Med-Kit perk:

Med-Kit
Increases initial inventory and holding capacity of stims by +2.
Increases stim effect duration by 2.0s

Lol now claiming items on the battle pass is busted!

The game was stable with less players. Seems more the servers trying to cope with too much players at once.

The orbital laser is another good strategem, when we're grouped up and can't afford to run away from a 380MM, a laser can bring down anything.

Also is there a lore reason as to why destroyers leave low orbit after the timer runs out for bug missions? It kinda makes sense that bots have some sort of super antiship weapon but backing off from bugs just seem kinda silly.

a rabid potato

We had a particularly tense bug mission last night where we were getting overrun at the LZ right as the chopper was landing. The cannon on the Pelican killed two of us and then pinned our last surviving squad mate under the turret, so no one got out alive. Game is 10/10.

Amuys posted:

Some of the bot bases have tank turret towers too. First time we ran in to one we had no idea what was killing us because it just blends in to the structure.

Been finding Challenging pretty doable with pubbies on bugs, but man the "kill 150 bugs" missions are way undertuned. There's zero special enemies; you can just set down some turrets and afk until it's done.

One thing a lot of video games don't do well I feel like is rolling firefights.

We hell dived at the start of a mission directly into a spore nest with like 6 bosses, and spent the next 25 minutes in a rolling firefight across miles of the zone. 10/10 experience.
