for a lot of young people, the walled garden of tiktok is their primary source for anything online, so, rather than their discovery of generic products being met with "yeah, and? generic products have been around forever", they get a feedback loop of people being amazed by the modern equivalents of the white can beer from repo man yes, the internet is full of garbage, but there is still some good information out there if you look for it. it's not going to be found in the form of a 19 year old tiktok influencer who just discovered <thing>, though
