So I've got a healthy end-of-year bonus coming in, and my 1080 is starting to feel long in the tooth (or more likely Palworld is just garbage ), are any of the new refreshes of particularly compelling value?

Save $200 to buy an end of cycle card that released in October 2022. COMPELLING VALUE MATE it's a joke. The whole thing is a laugh. e: seriously though just buy a used 3080 or something, or wait until 5000 series if you have the $$$. The 4080 super is an insane joke. No one wanted these cards at $1,999 but slap a couple hundred off one and a half years later, it's a nice price cut apparently. Sorry I'm being a dick and it's nothing personal I just can't believe how horrible the gpu market is and how people are buying a 1.5 year old card for a small markdown like it was a deal Taima fucked around with this message at 15:46 on Feb 13, 2024 |

Replacements for the 4080/4070 series are like half a year away or more, and we have no idea what great pricing scheme leather jacket will come up with, calm down.

Taima posted:Ah yes, compelling value... let's see how that's going... I mean... it's probably the best retail card for gaming at that price point if you care about efficiency or rt performance. Expecting retail to compete with used for value isn't realistic; if it did nobody would buy used. And something better is always coming. In q4 or whenever 5000 series launches probably people will be saying the same poo poo; 5000 series sucks go buy a used 4080 (super) on eBay. So it goes. I mean it's fine if it's not compelling enough for you to buy; I'm not buying one either. I'll maybe jump when 4080 efficiency can be had at like 600-800, which might not be for a generation or two. But getting mad about it is pointless. As time marches on, price:perf will get better, and 4080 perf for $200 less is in fact value getting better. Just by not as much as you want.

Yeah, all the original rumors I think were for a launch in “Early 2025” I think? Based on when the 4080 launched, there’s probably somewhere between 40-45% of its lifecycle remaining, and Nvidia just did a mid-lifecycle cost cut that actually improved price/perf on it. Seems perfectly fine, and the easier choice for many going 4K vs the 4090 (whereas before, it could be relatively easily argued to just pay the 33% more for a 4090 for the 30% higher performance and greater VRAM, but now you’d be paying 60% more for the same 30% performance, so that recommendation went “woof”)

Dude just upgrade your poo poo, install Open-Shell to get the Start Menu back, and I guess a telemetry disabler if you care, but 10 has probably as much telemetry as 11. Win 11 has a lot of poo poo that actually helps GPUs that you're missing with 10, like the DXGI flip model. And after you've done that, don't install a goddamn Nvidia AI chatbot lol
