It's small potatoes compared to the infuriating moving violations people share ITT, but I see a lot of cars parked way up on the sidewalk every day when I walk to work. Mostly on sidestreets. It occurs to me as odd that the default behaviour for drivers who 'need' to stop somewhere is to get out of the way of road traffic, at the cost of inconveniencing pedestrians. These aren't even very narrow streets and they're mostly one-ways; even though parking is legal only on one side there's plenty of room for a big truck to make it through if someone just parked on the other side. Yet people still ride up on the sidewalk, inconveniencing pedestrians, because apparently that's just the thing you're supposed to do? I wish I could articulate this better, but it strikes me as odd learned behaviour. Surely no driver's ed schools are teaching this illegal move. Sometimes I fold their mirrors in.

funny thing about US infrastructure is that in many places you have to drive even if you don’t want to because of freedumbs or whatever. oh and people like Elon killing public transportation so they can make more money.

Elon has done a lot of bad stuff and if we let him keep going he’ll do a whole lot more, but imo pinning public transit on him is probably not one of them. I mean, yeah he’s incredibly anti transit and stuff like hyperloop is obviously not helping, but call me a cynic I don’t think CA high speed rail or improved transit would have happened even if Elon hadn’t been there

I've thought about this before but have never really been angry enough to go through with it, plus it's pretty loud and what if they're right around the corner and hear it. Walking up the same street just now, I crossed at a stop sign and a guy in an suv had to stop short. He was fully not intending to stop for the sign so I stood in front of his car and pointed it out. He said "it's obscured by that white van," like buddy don't bullshit me. You know it's there and there's also a stop line on the road. You old dipshit.

to no one's surprise, repaving roads just increases speeds. the ideal case is continued decline of the material base and roads just deteriorating to such a large degree that average speeds decrease https://twitter.com/BerkSafeStreets/status/1737951952712175877 https://twitter.com/BerkSafeStreets/status/1737951955321032788

That would actually be the safer option, I think. Just accept that your trip might take very slightly longer due to unforeseen traffic conditions.
