Haifisch posted:And don't underestimate how long cartoons/general pop culture can keep stuff in circulation via references, even if kids don't really get where it came from. It's always weird to me when people are surprised that kids can be aware of stuff from before their time. Last year my mother was telling me about Arby's initial ad campaign to break the burger monopoly of fast food (in their words), and I immediately rattled off the jingle. "That was before you were born!" "Maybe so but the commercials weren't."

Steeple 20: Extreme Freaks John Allison's Patreon John Allison's Gumroad store Steeple website John Allison posted:Whatever the witch influencers did to Brian in this comic just came home to roost. I’m sure everyone’s fine. To recap, it was revealed back in The Silvery Moon that Brian used to be a werewolf, but was partially cured by the "hipster witches" / "witch influencers". At the end of the last story they did something to Brian, which apparently undid the cure and now he's full werewolf again. Final Steeple page tomorrow!

See, this kind of thing is why it's really weird that nobody ever really discusses burning the hipster witches at the stake. They're in this weird position where they're too human for the Reverend to administer vigilante justice like he does to fishmen, but too supernatural for normal laws to apply, so they just go around committing sexual assault and now they're responsible for several deaths.

Pogo 5/9-11/52 1952 was the first year Pogo ran for president, but he'd continue running in future elections as well. This included producing some campaign merchandise: A "first of May" is circus slang for a noob. Archie 7/21-23/49 The Virtue of Vera Valiant 1/30/77 "Liz and Dick" is a reference to Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, whose rocky marriage finally arrived at Splitsville in 1974.

Haifisch posted:Mexikid Stories For some reason the phrasing of "here, take one of these with you" cracked me up good. Mexikid Stories owns. FINGERPORI In the original Finnish the phrasing was "Huumekauppiaat työllistävät poliisia", which literally means "drug dealers employing a policeman/the police", but "työllistää", to employ, is frequently used to mean "keeping someone busy" or "creating work for someone".
