42% of people in the US own at least one gun. There are 1.2 private firearms per person. At 334 million US residents, that’s 148 million and change who own 401 million guns. The “average american gun owner” is, mathematically, wielding 2-3 guns and strapped like that imaginary Soros deep state plant. And iirc if you actually break it down it’s worse; a huge number of the guns are hordes by an even smaller segment of the population bc

Yeah, this one has been a thing in reactionary circles. The Deep State essentially grooming an alienated individual into a mass shooter in order to secure funding. On an unrelated side note, did you know that you don't need much to sign up for multiple credit cards?

A truck or SUV with Molon Labe or Come and take it decals might as well be advertising for a free gun.

Professor Beetus posted:They will probably find it just as weird that porn came on dvds Back in the pre-Covid era when I still smoked, I used to get my tobacco at this small hole in the wall shop that was conveniently located halfway between my faculty and my apartment. One day I was waiting in line behind this older gentleman who was there to obtain some porn magazines. The transaction was completed in utter silence, with me politely looking away when I realised that what the clerk was sliding into a plain paper bag was the most recent issue of the local equivalent of Gigantic Asses. After the older gentleman had left I couldn’t help but remark that those magazines had to be a dying market, thanks to the internet. The clerk informed me that they had about a dozen customers left guys too old and/or stubborn to get their porn from the internet, to the point where he knew what each of them wanted, and ordered what basically amounted to ‘the usual’ for each individual customer. He actually realised one of his regulars passed away after finding that a particular magazine hadn’t been bought two months in a row.

'The poor must suffer' and 'minimum wage jobs are for children and should get poo poo pay' are two of the Ten Commandments of the American social gospel. One of the things we're taught to do in this country is always punch down at poor people rather than punching up at the Job Creators who are the authors of our misery.

When a goodly chunk of your sleeper suburbs are in Indiana, do Illinois gun laws matter that much? When i was living in the Chicagoland area in the 90's, every friend I had in Indiana would cross the border strapped and concealed.

My new S24 was $800 off with a trade-in for my five year old phone and while that took a plan with some premium services the mobile hotspot stuff means I could just use it for my home internet connection if I didn't have reasons to keep wired internet and save money on that. And from what my brother's family pays the deals are better for family plans than my individuals. Even pretty nice smartphones and service can be affordable if you're using them as your main communication and media expense.

Nothing shows how out of touch boomers are than cell phones to be honest. I see all the time on Reddit and comments on my family's posts "Why do these Zoomers and Millenials have smartphones if they're struggling so much financially??? Get a flip phone and save money!" They really can't comprehend how necessary a smart phone is in this day and age - good luck job hunting without one, and good luck doing a lot of jobs when you don't have easy access to information and email.

I think it got brought up in this thread before, wrt the "designer" clothes, that poo poo has a tendency to get donated to Goodwill and the like, especially if you're near a bougie sort of area. I had a friend who used to work at a Goodwill that was near an upscale neighborhood, and she'd be telling me about computers getting dropped off that still had pretty good specs, and name brand clothes that got dropped off because people outgrew them or just needed to free up some wardrobe space. So yeah, even if one of THE POORS is wearing a designer shirt, they probably paid a pittance for it from somewhere, they sure as poo poo didn't buy it direct from the manufacturer.

There's also the "on food stamps but driving a Mercedes" where if you've been doing well for yourself but suddenly unemployed, like a lot of people were with the GFC, you're not going to turn in a paid-off reliable vehicle you already have. You won't get anywhere near as much vehicle for what you could sell it for, and you'd be stupid to get rid of it out of some sense of economic martyrdom
