I'm not sure if its worse that it's more like 'not giving a poo poo about palestinian death' is closer to mandatory sensible politics. The swivel eyed lunatics gooning themselves raw over dead kids are at the very least easier to vilify.

I don't get why he had to have a public opinion on Israel/Palestine beyond "that's a matter for the international community"

Even going "what's a leppo?" would be less embarrassing than trying to please all sides in an international conflict that is somehow the only one that UK politicians are routinely asked to declare sides on.

And there's usually the response of "well the UK had a lot of responsibility for the creation on bla bla" but the UK had all of the responsibility for the creation of Burma, no fucker wanted it, and it's been a bloodbath ever since, but nobody asks Sunak or Starmer if the junta has the right to cut off water in Shan.

e: I suppose there's North Yemen now too, but we're desperately pretending that's not even a place, let alone one that the UK and USA were allies with against South Yemen until we all got bored and wandered off in 1990.

It's because there's a ton of current cooperation in terms of military operations and arms sales between Israel and the UK, so people ask the question whether it's right that there's a ton of military and arms sales cooperation between the UK and Israel

Sure, but the UK is renting out a chunk of the RAF to Saudi Arabia to bomb what was the area of Yemen that was the western allied bit until the end of history happened, and I think the only people who commented against that one were Corbyn and Farage (for very different reasons).

Also I don't think it's ever phrased as that kind of question, it's always "is Israel right to..?" as if it's a comment on a completely divorced international matter or even "does Israel have the right to defend itself/exist/decide its own laws?" as if Jeremy Corbyn is going to nuke Tel Aviv the minute that he got the chance rather than issue a strongly worded letter that is probably not going to contain the secret words that stop Israel from existing.
