I just did a solo ICBM mission on Extreme. When I got to the missile silo there were a bunch of bots scattered around the base. Instead of shooting them, I tried to see if I could Solid Snake the place by sneaking up behind each bot and meleeing them on my way to the terminal, and holy poo poo, it actually works. Killing a bot with melee won't alert nearby bots unless they actually see you do it. I was able to launch the missile without firing a shot.

Yea those escort missions gotta be bugged. Like the spawn rate for new dropships is 1.5 instead of 0.5 or something like that.

Endgame in HD1 was just sprinting everywhere, mechs were a liability. In this game I bet they would still be a liability unless they give every mech the nuclear eject from TF2.

Mechs let you be surrounded and overwhelmed, I imagine it will be the same in this, so one dude in a mech and three keeping him alive.

How are people going about taking out the cannon towers on the large bot bases? A orbital rail cannon strike also one shots them.

You can also use smoke strikes to get in to take down the t-800 cqc style too. Smoke strikes can also take out fabricators and kinda nests. Havent tried it much against bug holes.

It does seem like the smart way to play is to try and be stealthy avoiding patrols and preparing your assaults ahead of time by calling down your traps and guns and artillery strikes to alpha strike everything before it can fight back and get the objectives done before you get swarmed and the frantic chaos begins where you make a run for it, but good luck trying to do that without communication with rando's and people trying to kill every unalerted patrol.

If you haven't done one of the Protect Democracy missions where you have to raise 3 flags in different camps, you should at least once.

The flag pole raises by itself, slowly, with a tinny speaker playing DEMOCRATIC music. At the end you get little sparklers :)

In HD1 there was a radar Strategem that was practically mandatory on higher difficulties to ensure you didn't accidentally set off patrols and get overwhelmed. I know some of the armors in HD2 offer radar around your ping and I think there's a stratagem that gives you some sight as well. But yeah at higher levels you're trying to minimize combat as much as possible to prevent things from getting too hairy.

Actually now that I think about it, do the smoke Strategems let you break aggro? In HD1 once enemies spotted you they'd track you all the way across the map.

Stop for me, it's the claw!

I had my first extraction bug recently where the dropship said that it had landed, but didn't put the door down, I think because it was trying to land on a big corpse. It looked as though it was moving verrry slowly towards the ground. It took off without any of us and showed the extraction cutscene, but the mission was still a success.

Regarding the defence event, I'm pretty sure it's way harder than usual because it's a sneak attack. We are meant to be caught unaware and dealing with more than expected. People are saying "Hey this isn't the same as the difficulty level I usually play, something must be broken!" but I think it has its own mission modifiers on top of that difficulty like extra enemy drop ships.

On difficulty 4 I can normally take out a big charger from in front with one mag of the grenade launcher, I think. Today I played difficulty 3 and had a mission to kill two charger boss bugs. Those guys needed at least three or four clips each. Are the bugs that are marked as mission objectives, a lot tougher?

Also someone online said that the eagle cluster bomb is great and still destroys objectives, even though the text said it can't. It really doesn't! It did maybe one out of six times.

They both thankfully do their own thing and are very different games. I like that Starship Troopers has base building and 16 player co-op, but yeah it’s a much smaller, less funded game, and in early access. It doesnt stand a chance.

Yeah I don't really care what the meta is, I like shooting and scrambling and killing the enemies of managed democracy. I'm not gonna alert random patrols for no reason but I am gonna go running into objectives and get a good scrap going most times. Which is kind of the downside of the hardest difficulties, they push you towards stealth which I don't think is all that fun.

Managed a bunch of medium difficulty evac missions tonight, they're not too bad as long as you have a lot of mortar sentries going and everyone is mashing the button so you can extract as soon as possible.

Anything above medium seemed borderline impossible to me though.

I'm actually clearing those evac missions pretty consistently now on the higher difficulties, the trick is to just ignore enemies and stand by the buttons inbetween smoke drops

you can get to like 30 people before the hulks start dropping

Really want to start evacing people ASAP, ahve people head to the buttons and start slamming immediately. Bring a few recoillless rifles or EATs to take down the first few dropships to keep things manageable for a bit.

Eagle missile pods, they aren't as bombastic as the strafe but they are going to actively target poo poo that matters and that makes them far less likely to kill someone you care about. Combined you can take care of most things, be it large buildings or key enemies.

They moved (and thus aimed) slowly. They were very vulnerable to getting surrounded. They were susceptible to giving and receiving friendly fire since they had massively destructive weapons and moved really slowly, unable to get out of way of calldowns. The were pretty balanced IMO and they had their uses. However they really dropped off in the hardest difficulties since you generally wanted to be stealthy and constantly on the move and the mechs were just far too slow to keep up.

I was actually considering trying this exact combo earlier today. I think it'll work fine against bugs (as long as you have someone else on AT duty), focusing on clearing space against smaller enemies, but against the bots you're going to run into much more med armour enemies and the penetrator AR is going to struggle against those larger groups, as well as you won't have anything to deal with walkers from the front with zero effort.

It depends on the objective. It'll close bug holes for sure.

Also no, the mission targets aren't harder.

According to some people the 4 stratagems on one loadout is a UI exploit so it should probably get fixed. Can't speak for the people with 999+ research samples. I guess feel free to report them in the name of Managed Democracy.

Doesn't the explosive AR, in addition to requiring money to buy, have less mags as a tradeoff? I mean obviously the solution is hump around an ammo backpack and a solid sidearm but still.

Honestly I wouldn't know. I've barely unlocked the initial DMR.
