Didn’t he already turn down like $400M? Of course he’s going to free agency

Yeah this is my feeling, like unless you're going to beat the Ohtani deal AND not do any deferred money shenanigans there's zero chance.

Yeah he will be the Ohtani type free agent for 2024-2025.

Guess he's gonna be a Dodger

Dodgers could use a real left fielder...

Soto would be funny because a bunch of the usual chicken-littles would start complaining that the Dodger don't have enough right handed power bats with Soto/Freeman/Ohtani/Muncy all being lefty

Maybe I'm biased due to up till recently living with a hardcore Dodger fan, but I feel like "the Dodgers can't hit LHP" has been an ongoing narrative for like half a decade now that doesn't actually seem to be true in the slightest.

It’s the brain trust that used to run Cleveland, they’re operating as expected and wanted by ownership.

Nationalize Rogers (and therefore the Blue Jays).

there was definitely a phase where most of their best bats were lefty, leading to a lot of narrative building and overreaction around that

Every trade rumor I've heard about Gleyber is that a team asked about him and the Yankees said no. Inlcuding for Pablo Lopez.

Exactly. It’s not complicated. Teams wanted Gleyber in trade negotiations. Cashman was willing to move him in theory. But a deal that was deemed worth it never happened. Gleyber not being untouchable and being someone other teams covet because he’s young and one of the best bats at his position isn’t the same thing as the Yankees trying to get rid of him. That’s a fantasy concocted by fans and media.

As for him not being extended, they didn’t even extend Judge so I’m not shocked. They famously went to the end with guys like Jeter and Bernie. That’s how they operate. I dunno if that means they’ll let him walk after this year. Unless they really get sold on Peraza this season as his replacement I assume they’ll at least make him an offer. But they probably just want to play it out and see.

Funny thing is I was looking at his stats and I realized his numbers the last two seasons are more or less in line with his two peak seasons except for his home run total in 2019. Which you could arguably chalk entirely up to him destroying Camden Yards so bad they moved the fences back.

And everyone always knew Soto was a rental. That’s no surprise. He’s not skipping free agency.

I was gonna say wow that's nothing for a guy who was once touted as one of the best middle infield players in the game, but then I looked him up on bref and not only has he fallen off the last couple years, he's somehow 35 :ohno:

Yeah, they aren't very popular and the team mostly sucks. But Reinsdorf has been masterful at getting government handouts throughout his tenure so I imagine he'll get something.

The only good thing Rahm Emanuel did was tell the Cubs to pound sand when they asked for handouts.

My guess is that they're asking for an astronomical amount of money they know they're not going to get as an opening bid, and then hope to negotiate down. There's so many other things that need money thrown at them in the city right now that actually loving matter though so I hope Jerry gets told to pound loving sand and go get some private investors on board if he so desperately needs money from elsewhere.
