Hmm, yes, I see the issue with a classless society trying to coexist with feudalism, an inherently class-based structure.

If anything as a Marxist one should try to go as extractively feudal as possible, in order to create the conditions for industrial capitalism and thus the eventual revolution.

Also socialism is pretty heavily predicted on an industrial revolution.

Is Wards & Wardens the one that lets you spend a ton of money to go to University and get a 5 star education or turn into a party animal? Because that has some fun events. I do know it's the one that lets you pass on a trait to anyone you're educating, which can be amazing.

I know the University visit activity is DLC locked but I didn't know whether "deliberately pass on a trait instead of relying on the event coming up" was in the free update or not. Mantis42 posted:Oh wow, diseases, imperial mechanics and landless? If they pull this off then CK3 will finally surpass CK2 imo Er, not quite. It's mainly the other way around, colonialism was driven by capitalist economic forces; i.e the whole paragraph in the Manifesto about the bourgeois recreating itself across the globe/finding new markets and more thoroughly exploiting markets at home etc. An alternate timeline where Europeans are driven into the Atlantic ocean after first making landfall in the Americas would still result in capitalism as we know it existing.

I mean capitalism as a hegemonic force, which the bourgeoisie existed prior to. Of course they pursued capitalist accumulation, that's what defines them as a class, but it was the plunder of the new world that let them challenge and displace the old order.

Curiously I was reading Marx himself talking about that recently Colonialism was a big part of it of course, but more related to CK times, he also talks about how the feudal lords stole the communal lands that belonged to the peasants by right, from where they got their own subsistence, and than rented those lands to the bourgeoisie mostly to grown sheep, which provided wool for the early manufactories while at the same time creating a working class that had nothing to sell but their work and needed to sell it because they no longer could provide their own subsistence And how the kings initially resisted this and tried to protect those communal lands, to prevent the nobles from becoming too rich and powerful, but than in some countries like England, the catholic church was expelled and their lands all confiscated by the crown and than the kings also got into the business of selling/renting land for commercial farming and that hasted the end of feudalism

since paradox is talking about landless gameplay, i think this opens up the potential to play as claimants and adventurers, with gameplay centred around using skills and diplomacy in order to build up some military ability, or engineer events using intrigue to gain landed titles. imagine being the descendant of a kingdom which lost all its titles and only has claims, and becoming a courtier who has to use diplomacy in order to build up a force to take things back later, from foreign lands. this would make it so that a game over is when your dynastic bloodline dies out, and not necessarily when you lose territory.

I could see landless characters being a big avenue for future expansions. Merchants of the Silk Road, where you are landless and competing against other caravans, Holy-War knights and mercenaries where you are landless and hoping to establish yourself, Pirate Lord declaration where instead of turning the Isle of Man into a pirate kingdom, instead you leave land entirely, get an upgradable fleet that you move around and raid as much as you can until either you die or decide to settle down.

Modern Paradox only releases patches in conjunction with paid DLC. They might fix the one issue that formats your hard drive, but only if it immediately follows the release of an "experience pack."

If the Earth is moving I should feel a breeze, such as one feels when traveling in a moving vehicle. Explain that, you can't. If I open the door of my house during winter, I'm going to feel wind, but that doesn't mean the world is turning in that direction, you fool. Beside, there is a difference between going fast and just feeling the wind. On top of that, if I were to throw a ball, I could have it spin, go in one direction and still reach the ground nonetheless. An object can have multiple movement independent from one another. So, before you insult my intelligence, try to get a better look of yourself. Landless gameplay opens up so many insane possibilities, it owns. We could also probably get merchant republics back by removing the "holding territory" part or making it truly a lategame thing, instead just focusing on the business/influence part of being a merchant family. Seriously tho, you'd be able to play Skyrim as an adventurer in CK3 using the Elder Scrolls mod, that's nuts.

I don't really get the desire for completely different game modes in CK3. Like why not just play a different game at that point, like mount and blade or something I'd much rather they focus on making the existing game more deep and interesting tbh

In that way the existing game is more deep and interesting as it has more deep and interesting characters. If it can be done, why not. Do you just play a single nation in this game every time, or do you mix it up?

Like why not just play a different game at that point, like mount and blade or something For me I'm just not really sure how Paradox can make the gameplay deeper or more interesting, especially not without also hurting balance? I already dislike how popup heavy the game is, especially for multiplayer. I haven't played in a while as I mainly play CK for megacampaigns, maybe I'd have a different wishlist if I played it again. Landless gameplay and merchant republics feels like that would offer more varied gameplay options, and perhaps most importantly allow for a more convenient means of avoiding the host crashing to the desktop if he gets wiped out.

Like why not just play a different game at that point, like mount and blade or something Yeah, this is pretty much how I'm feeling as well. I think an example of this was raised by someone a few pages back with regards to religion, there's more that could be done there to flesh out existing ones rather than options for creating your own. With Catholicism, for example, you could port over or adapt the papal election and bishop mechanics from CK2, but some new ones dealing with things like monasteries could be interesting. Also, I know it's a minority opinion but even just the one bookmark starting in the high/late Middle Ages would be great. I know there are a few mods that offer this, but none of them are perfect (even the best ones have a few flaws with the map or tech levels, and dynasties all start with 0 legacies).

I'd rather have more things to do in one dynasty than have lots of different kinds of dynasties that all repeat themselves over and over, if that makes sense? CK3 feels like a wide but shallow pond, much moreso than CK2.

So I got the Ummayad Strikes Back achievement. If you are Muwalladi you get an option to appoint a noble caliph which counts as holding the Sunni Caliphate even if the Ash'ari one still exists, which makes it easier. I decided to also go for the Iberian Conciliation achievement since it was the last one I needed for Iberian struggle endings and oof. That one is rough. You really have to force Conciliation phase, I probably gave out like 10k gold in gifts and had like twenty friends and was constantly releasing, re-vassalizing, and releasing again when truce expired.

Fajita Queen posted:I don't really get the desire for completely different game modes in CK3. Like why not just play a different game at that point, like mount and blade or something The Byzantines are right there on the map and are a major player, and it seems to me one of the primary goals of the upcoming content is to make that different. There are some unique things about Byzantine culture but mostly they just operate as feudals that get early Primogeniture. Which is not very historically accurate (which is meh for me) or interesting (much more important imo). So if this isn't making the "existing game more deep and interesting" at least in intent I guess I'm not getting what you're saying. I do hope there's some tempering of expectations on the part of the community in regards to this, as we're almost certainly not going to just be able to open up the game and pick literally any character on the map and play as them. The steam page describes landless gameplay in two contexts, that as a Byzantine noble with a family estate jockeying for power as a governor within the Imperial administration, and an adventurer that can earn a landed title through merit. The latter is certainly more open-ended, but we'll have to see just how it's implemented. I dunno, I think the minute-to-minute gameplay in CK3 is already fleshed out enough that I'd prefer more variety in flavor and style of play rather than adding more plates to spin (like societies or something), so this all sounds good to me.

Becoming an adventurer is a massive draw for me, because even while role-playing it's very easy to just run away with the game and dominate everyone militarily. At least I can just gently caress off and organically seek my fortune instead of going like, one day the Viking king decided to pack up bags and go elsewhere for ??? reasons
