I'm looking at these theories about Masked Fools and thinking about Giovanni, a Masked Fool who went through a lot of effort and expense to set up a fun tournament just to reunite the Trailblazer and Pitch Dark Hook the Great.

New leaks with numbers are out for Acheron et al. What I have gleaned is that it's actually read hard to parse kits these days.

Acheron gets 1.6 times final damage for being with two Nihilities. 1.15x for one.

Wouldn’t “everything is meaningless” be more IX’s thing under Nihility? Obviously those two Aeons have some overlap or adjacency, but.

Also, I don’t care if Firefly has no significant story relevance by end of planet. She’s cute! (Ok, and mysterious. Please no spoilers, I’m hoping it’s not “she’s actually just this other character!” since that would be a little boring.)

Well the last couple pages show it’s an interesting time to ask but uh, how’s the game? I played a good chunk of Genshin and don’t intend on spending any money on this. Guessing like Genshin it’s more ‘what flavor of total destruction do I want to rain down’ instead of chasing characters that won’t actively hamstring me from stuff?

The best time to get into Honkai Star Rail was obviously at release. The second best time is probably now. Sign up in the next, uh... 30 days or so? And you'll get a free, extremely good five star single-target damage specialist just in the mail.

I feel like Elation is more "we create our own purpose" than pure Nihility. Our own subjective experience is the only thing of value.

Yeah, Elation seems like a pretty fragmented path whose followers likely interpret in incredibly different ways based on their own subjective belief of what is worthy of Elation. Giovanni just seems to like to run fun games, and Sparkle is an awful piece of poo poo troll, and both are equally valid in Aha's eyes

Regarding Aha and that joyless group, IIRC Aha doesn't help them because they reflect their "values/philosophy" - they're just one of the many groups Aha lends power to "just because it'd be funny/interesting." So I wouldn't define Aha as Nihilism (especially since, as someone else mentioned, the literal Nihility is another Aeon!). It's "the Elation" - it's basically just the pure concept of finding things fun/entertaining.

Most Aeons are completely divorced from any sense of ethics/morality, so Elation isn't unique in that regard.

the free characters in this game are honestly better than the ones in genshin for the most part (xiangling is free and insane but all the starter characters here blow amber out of the water). due to the turn based format its pretty hard for a character to be completely useless. like amber is bad because she hs extremely clunky ways of doing damage and doesnt work well with the elemental reaction system but here everyone just, clicks a button and does damage. even the worst characters in the game are functional. so yeah youre fine

and also yeah start now because anniversary is coming up and theres a free character id say is about on the level of uhhhhhhhhh... mostly single target damage dealer who needs some support but those supports are good... lyney?

also speaking of free stuff theres gonna be a free selector in 2.1 with all the post-launch 4*s (gallagher, misha, xueyi, hanya, little gui, luka, lynx, yukong) so if you missed any of them or dont want to roll on the 2.1 banners for gallagher, there you go

not confirmed yet. at first the new 4*s were always on the second banner but now theyve switched to the first. with xueyi it made sense so you didnt have to roll dr. ratio's banner to get the new 4* when you got him for free, but no idea why misha was on black swan's. so it could go either way

personally id guess acheron just because running a new shielder and a new healer together would be weird but who knows

We don't know yet. His debuffs do synergize with Acheron, but Misha is on BS's banner despite his mechanic synergizing better with Sparkle so

Game is good and also a good bit more generous with free jade and pulls than Genshin was last time I played. Like someone said upthread if you start now you’ll get an extremely solid 5-star damage dealer in the mail as part of a promotion for the game winning some awards. And they just dropped their first new zone since release which is trippy and a delight.

Gameplay wise it’s a simpler beast than Genshin, but I like it that way because goddamn could Genshin be fiddly. There’s no elemental interactions to worry about, just hitting enemy weaknesses. There’s no real stinkers in the lineup aside from like Yanqing and Arlan but even they’re workable, just not as easily.

There’s a Jojo, there’s a Kamen Rider, there’s a Good Robot Dad, what more do you need?

so since it seems like Acheron really wants to be with 2 nihility, who are the 2 to go to? black swan/kafka is an obvious pair but then you're going 3 hard damage dealers and no support.. silver wolf would be nice, but who to go with her? welt maybe? gui or pela?

SW/Pela seems like the obvious combo for bigger numbers on Acheron, which is presumably the point of her. Like, she seems designed as a hypercarry who prefers debuffers to buffers. BS, Guinaifen, and Luka can also debuff to increase her damage, but not by as much. Kafka seems... bad, but her follow-up attack could be useful for applying more debuffs per turn (you'd need a LC that applies a debuff though, because her skill doesn't by default).

Edit: Depending on how Acheron's charge stacking works, Guinaifen and BS might be brokenly good because of their ability to apply debuffs outside of their turn on the enemy action, but I'm guessing that won't work precisely because of that.

You guys are taking me along this time? Right? Wait Shaundi is going? This is bullshit man!

I'm going to take credit for the extra free 4*s as the person who wrote in on every survey I did back playing Genshin and now every one in Star Rail demanding that they make it easier to get the post launch 4* characters.

I could finish Yukong to e6 to support Dragon Dan or choose to either build Hanya or Xueyi. Assuming I have other roles filled which of those latter two is generally better?

Ytlaya
Nov 13, 2005

My main comparison vs Genshin is that Star Rail is just much easier to casually play. It makes past events available and easily accessible, and quests themselves are quicker (largely due to not navigating Genshin's giant open world). They recently added this cool flowchart thing that fully explains what unlocks what events, etc.

I'm trying to get back into Genshin and see all the new stuff since I stopped playing ~6-12 months ago*, and it's kind of overwhelming.

Edit: I think Genshin can be more rewarding if you want to devote yourself to a single GaaS and spend lots of time with it, since its open world is very cool and gorgeous. I just found that Star Rail better fit the way I play these games, and was better at providing enjoyable "bite sized" stories. Genshin also has some great stuff in its quests, but they're a much bigger investment.

* this was prompted by me listening to some of the new Fontaine music

Pretty playable. There's no precision movement needed during exploration and the battles are turn based (except for ultimates). You might get caught by a few more roaming enemies than you would otherwise though.

Played exclusively on my phone since launch. There's no real issues.

Also, I've just finished Penacony! Is it just me, or did it feel shorter than Belobog? Some of those side quests were out there.

I stand by my original assessments. I don't trust any of these people. I do like Sparkle, but not enough to risk missing Aventurine. I might throw 20 or 30 pulls at her in case she shows up early, but I probably shouldn't.

I really want Sam, even though I have Topaz. I also want Screwllum.

We loving better get 5 star Sampo. I'm going to be pissed if all we get is a new path for Trailblazer.

I play mostly on my phone and it works a treat. I really only go to PC for story stuff since I’d rather have nice headphones on for the cutscenes and voice acting. Certainly not the misery simulator Genshin is on a phone.

Know. We don't *know*. There have been leaks though, they've been consistent for months, and there are actual assets that back it up.

It's Harmony Trailblazer, the hat they dance with in White Night is their weapon, and they are based around Weakness Breaking and FuA.

And the getting caught by enemies is on the camera more than the movement per-se. It also makes the rare puzzle where you have the orient the camera just so rather awful, but that's only a handful of times, really. For the most part the camera is just annoyingly slow. Occasionally it'll be difficult to touch a button because some other UI button gets priority and has an idiotically large hitbox. This may be less of an issue if you have a bigger screen and the various UI crap isn't eating into the free space you can use to manipulate the camera or whatever.

Bottom line: perfectly fine for touch, may annoy you depending on the size of the screen.
