Oh boy a third write-up! Once again, Bug-centric info only. The Breaker Incendiary is like a half-damage Breaker with more ammo. It's cone of fire is much larger and the incendiary property of the shot extends out quite a ways, but the fire does little damage and doesn't last long enough to kill Medium bugs. As a Get Out of Jail Free option as described in the Slugger write-up above, the BI is lacking in a key way. Yes, it will delete all those little guys around you and maybe even better than the standard Breaker, but at the cost of significantly lengthening the time it takes to kill the medium bugs, including the front-armored Hiveguard. It is an inferior Reactive Weapon than the Breaker. From what I've heard from first-hand goon experience, the Breaker Incendiary is better used as a specialized Proactive Weapon to fire short-mid range at chaff. If will kill a lot of small enemies with fewer shots than the Breaker, provided they are close enough together. Is that worth not being able to save yourself from the surprise back attack of 5 medium enemies at once? :iiam:

I wish we weren't living in a Breaker Supremacy world (at least for bugs) but every time I take another weapon I wish I took the baseline Breaker instead.

Ideally when the servers are no longer on fire they can look into gun balance and bring other guns up to the level of the Breaker, because more guns need to be able to get poo poo done quickly without having to reload several times first.

I prefer the normal Breacher. The flame variant has insane spread on its shells which means you can't hit poo poo from outside 10 meters or so. It does set poo poo on fire though.

Apropos of nothing but I feel like the Breaker is ok in terms of utility, it just feels like almost everything else is worse. Hopefully that means we see some gentle tweaking upwards of the other stuff, or more specialism, rather than flattening the Breaker.

Nah AMR is fine vs bots at least until you get the Autocannon, and even then it's ok if you want to run a backpack too.

Iirc it kills scout walkers with 2 shots to the legs or 3? shots to the body, maybe 4. Apparently also takes out hulks if you shoot the cockpit or rear vents, tanks if you shoot the vents some and maybe the turret sides like, a lot? Seems decent as a stopgap until you either start using the autocannon or railgun

Yeah, I think AMR is a bit of an unsung hero. Is it as good as the Autocannon/Railgun in terms of damage? Absolutely not. But it has the same penetration characteristics of the Autocannon (albeit less damage) without taking up a backpack slot. Compared to the Railgun, it also allows you to use a backpack but has a ton more ammo, which can make it handy to have around when Resupply drops have much greater intervals between them and there isn't as much ammo scattered around the maps. It still does work against Automatons because you can use it to shoot off the arms of Hulks.

It should not be your fireteam's only answer to big threats (you really need someone with a recoilless, railgun, or EAT to break armor on parts to enable the AMR to do work on the larger targets just like you would with the Autocannon) but it's still a fine Support weapon.

Now what I want to speak up in favor of is the Guard Dog that uses the AR and not the laser rifle. Comparatively speaking, that thing does not inflict anywhere near as much friendly fire as the laser variant, although it is hungry for Resupply Drops as that's the only way to replenish its ammo short of dropping another backpack. Still very effective at cleaning up chaff though, and again the fact that it is really hard to get it to friendly fire since it's not sweeping a beam across the battlefield is admirable.

I've been using the explosive round AR from the pass and the grenade launcher, but haven't been able to get past level 5 due to grouping issues. But in the times when I've been playing they do some serious work so far.

It would probably not be very well received but I think flat lowering the damage of the Breaker by up to 1/3 and then maybe increasing the magazine or number of magazines slightly would make the Bug game better on the whole.

Every single person i've played with who uses it is someone i've had to constantly watch to A) Make sure they don't set me on fire and 2) Shoot all the hunter bugs that inevitably swarm them because instant damage is garbage and 2.a) to see when they open up on some patrol of bugs so I can actually kill them before they breach.

HD2 key bindings often distinguish between a tap, press, long press, hold, and double tap of a button, all as different functions. check in your bindings that switching to your shoulder support weapon isn't set up as one of those. there's also an option in the menu for 'classic HD' weapon switching which is tap for switch to support, hold for switch to sidearm.

Also the RR comes with a backpack of shells that can be slowly reloaded on your own, or the backpack can be worn by a friend for team assisted reloads.

Game needs way more secondary weapons. Your choices are effectively:
- a weak normal pistol
- a much better smg
- an okay handcannon that takes years to reload (only available if you ground out or bought the premium bond)

...and all of them have extremely limited ammo pools. Give me more interesting and viable secondaries so I don't have to always bring the most optimal primary or die horribly. Hell, I'd even be okay with the current options if they had, like, double the available ammo so I could actually use the drat things for more than a single surprise patrol.

For as hype about this game as people seem to be, the actual combat is… not inspiring. The guns are bland, there’s only a tiny handful of them, and there’s no melee combat or anything to break it up; at best you have a moderately-interesting support weapon. The bulk of the fun is stratagems, and most of those are effectively just really big grenades. Don’t get me wrong, throwing a really big grenade is fun! But there’s only so much playtime you can wring out of it. And the ship upgrades are all boring passives, so once you’ve unlocked all the stratagems you like there’s nowhere to go.

e: one effect of the shift to 3D from topdown is the loss of immediacy. You can spot bases from a long distance, throw a ton of eagle strikes on them, and never have to actually go in and fight up close.

The idea is that we're somewhat fragile spacefolks with access to hilariously powerful weapons and the ability to call down absurdly devastating hellfire from an orbiting spaceship. Making all of the guns more powerful makes them more dangerous to us as well as the bugs/bots!

Wish the game remembered aim modes as well as fire modes. I suck so I need to look down the scope when using the Railgun in unsafe mode, as I can't reliably see the heat buildup otherwise, but I don't bother using the scope on other guns generally.

Also whether it remembers safe or unsafe mode seems to be hit and miss as well, even though I have it set up in the options as "Per Weapon".

They're easier now and are fairly manageable if you are able to clear missions at that difficulty (and understand that Mortar Sentries are OP in that scenario).

The issue was that previously even at Challenging they were dropping hilarious numbers of Hulks of both varieties alongside hordes of Devastators (especially the rocket ones). 1-2 Hulks takes some coordination to manage as a team, now multiply that by 4-5x coming from all different directions with lots of Rocket Devastators that can easily one-shot you and your Sentry emplacements on top of a withering hail of firepower that the regular grunts are churning your way that are really good at throwing off your aim if they so much as graze you. And even when you took out those Hulks, the game did not let up. The rate at which they were dropping new units was completely unmanageable, and you could not find a safe spot to settle down for more than a few seconds because there would always be another group directly behind you.
