Season 3 has some real bangers. Season 1 had some well written episodes too but the animation quality was so bad that it lessened the impact. They settled on a nice quality level with season 2. Didn't bother with season 4.

Its funny how extremely obvious it is that McGruder had nothing to do with season 4.

Nimona isn't the protagonist, if that helps.

I finished China, IL and generally liked it. Sometimes it was a little too gross for me but that goes for most media. Weird how "Magical Pet" was the note to play the show out on. I can't think of how I would end this show, though.

Tangential to the thread but that Jellystone Show got George Lowe back to reprise his role as the one true Space Ghost [Coast to Coast]. https://twitter.com/hannabarberacap/status/1760635254547665202 That show isn’t for me but I’m glad they’re out there doing whatever it is they do. As best I can tell that episode is one extended love letter to SGC2C.

Oh apparently that Digital Circus video doing, *checks notes*, a quarter billion views was enough to get them to go off and do a whole rear end series. Color me surprised. I do appreciate that they spend a not insubstantial amount of time calling the fanbase sick freaks and have a blurred out scrolling list of what I can only assume to be extremely explicit clown porn. That's a decent amount of effort for what amounts to a "buy the shirts" video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lnLiJNRYAA Whoever they got to voice Moltar is really accurate, and while Zorak sounds more like his 60’s cartoon self, it’s really good too. Also weird seeing Brak be the leader of the pack.

Whoever they got to play Wally Gator sounds just like Daws Butler! (seriously that's great, brings tears to the eyes)

The Awesomesaurus posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lnLiJNRYAA I mean, Brak was the only one of the three to get his own shows. Zorak is always the rear end in a top hat sidekick, and Moltar only ever got a brief hosting gig on Toonami before being replaced by a robot.

I posted about this when someone asked in the chat thread, but I'll repeat it here: I liked Little Demon. It's 'adult' only in the sense that there is violence, nudity, and foul language. Not mature themes like BoJack or even being dark at times like R & M. But it was alright for a surprising reason. It was heavily promoted for staring Danny DeVito and Audrey Plaza, but uh, Danny's daughter is A+ as a voice actress (aside from her character being much more interesting). Lucy DeVito is around 40 I guess but plays a tween/young teenager in the absolute best possible way: mature but not precocious, bright but not exceptionally so, doesn't deal with the biggest threats but handles the one she does face on her own as opposed to being a plot point where another character saves the kid. A lot of punches are pulled, she can be a little self centred but not a brat. Fed up at times but not angsty. Spiteful but not cruel. Maybe you need to be 40 to have the experience for this kind of nuance. Bright Bart fucked around with this message at 20:23 on Feb 26, 2024 |

Huh, I did not know she was that old. But on a logical level it tracks. Danny is quite ancient after all.

Grimsburg continues to be excessively weird and funny. Like how the son becomes obsessed with a school gang called the "Stable Boys" which are all boys from two parent households. Also dueling criminals the Kid-napper (who steals baby goats) and the Kidneyapper (who steals kidneys.)

I am so glad to learn of a new show and it has 3 seasons already. Lookin forward to the Daws Butler soundalike, I was watching a bunch of old stuff a while back and was thinking how much of a vocal void was felt by him and several others. I see that Boomerang has its own streaming service lol. Do they actually have all the old Hanna Barbara stuff on there, is there anything resembling an old school tv channel stream of just the old poo poo, doesn't look like it at a glance.

Boomerang is like $50 a year and has tons of Hanna Barbera and Warner Brothers, both old and new-ish, including Cartoon Network stuff like Dexter, KND, etc. Flintstones, Jetsons, Smurfs, Yogi, Scooby and its derivatives like Jabberjaw, Jodi & the Pussycats, Captain Caveman, etc., Tom & Jerry, Garfield, original and modern Loony Tunes, Wabbit… What it does NOT have is DC stuff; that’s on Max.

Word, it was mostly the old stuff, Josie and Top Cat and all that other childhood background noise. I was trying watch Tenchi Muyo the other day and signed up for Crunchyroll and they didn't even have it. Archive org ended up having a toonami stream of it, complete with the old bumpers and such and that was a nice nostalgic trip. The voice acting wasn't the best but it's those voices that rattle the dusty sound memories for better or for worse. They do have a playlist thing, not quite a straight stream of just the old stuff... But thats because I'm old stuff my old got older.

It seems like Funimation used to have the first three Tenchi Muyo OAVs and Crunchyroll had the two newer ones that nobody has seen, but they're one of the things that hasn't been migrated over for whatever reason. Not GXP either, although they have a GXP sequel series.

I feel like if you're actively seeking it out when it's not on TV, you should rightfully seek it out at a weird and vaguely creepy anime store in the mall.Ghost Leviathan posted:I always found Top Cat downright incomprehensible. Top Cat is one of those window into a very specific time, as both taking heavily from the Phil Silvers Show and being set in a pretty specific long-gone version of New York City. With the added caveat that the specific New York City it was channelling may have already been gone by the time the show was being made, since they were making it in California after having set down their roots there for decades, while NYC was both hollowing out from the rise of cars and pushing people out of Manhattan. And then for some reason the show really caught on in Latin America where it is still popular.

I watched Tenchi Muyo OVA, a few eps of Tenchi Muyo: Ryo-Ohki (god, that was awful), and all of Tenchi Universe on Funimation. Then as we were 7 episodes into Tenchi in Tokyo, it got pulled and has never resurfaced since That was 3 years ago, I'm still upset I couldn't finish that corny show

The only things I really know about Tenchi Muyo is that it's one of the og harem animes, involves at least one intergalactic space princess who probably pays their rent but whose family is so rich it's hard to get them to actually give usefully proportionate amounts of money, everyone is at least distantly related to each other, and the somewhat forgone conclusion that Tenchi will eventually polygamously marry them all will make the already tangled family tree implode into an incomprehensible mess.

Although 'Tenchi marries everybody' only came in late the franchise and isn't even in any official works and is also frankly kind of weird because the writer threw in characters that Tenchi never had any interest in (although Tenchi doesn't actually genuine romantic interest very much at all) and didn't have any interest in him.

No, "Tenchi marries everybody" is canon as of the most recent OVAs, although it's true that he's not really romantically interested in most of them and has basically settled on it as a way to keep his found family together for the next thousand years. It's kind of weird to look at it today, because in the 90s I would have just said "that's a cop-out by a horny writer" but thinking about it lately caused me to realize "Oh! They formed a polycule! Good for them!".
