I remember how we were kind of hopeful for the season last year and were all disappointed. This year we all seem incredibly pessimistic before it starts so maybe it'll be good actually?

Theophany posted:the motorsport.com comment section is very good if your hearing is attuned to the 23-54KHz range. Lots of malicious comment from people that know very little of the issues. MB has received tips that it is NOT an aero problem but a hydraulic problem , liquid pressure. On the RBR side Newey solved it analog, bereft of tools that they do not have, likely several years prior to the new regs. This is fundamentally a fluid dynamics issue, that many misunderstand as "aerodynamics." Once the air gets inside the ducts, its behavior is pure fluid dynamics- and unless MB employs such specialists, it will never solve the issue in house. Two, it is a hydraulic adaptive SUSPENSION issue (that RB had figured out), specifically, how the fluid behaves in the ducts, and based on duct layout, loading the car accordingly in turns and so on. You can load the inside of the car in a turn, keeping it flat. OH YEA!! I knwo how or why RB figured it out- seen it. The relationship between the floor liquid velocity and upper floor/sidepods creates the pressure differential, or downforce (more like suction), lateral loading, adaptive suspension properties. Of course, to maximize the floor liquid velocity one needs the space, so the MB suspension is unsuited for this (it needs to move up). They get stalls inside, causing a loss of velocity inside, the loss in downforce and bounce up. So the key is that at the critical pendulum point the liquid needs it max velocity in most conditions, except on straights where one does not wants too much rolling resistance at speed, but the shape and number of the ducts controls all this. You can control where the pivot point of the car (RBR is 75% back from nose). So it is easy to see how an aero problem, that covers upper surfaces, is misused to solve a non aero issue that is essential to fixing the car. And, of course, due to budget cap, they cannot experiment. As for the "fix" floor redesigned, there are two companies, one in the US and one in the UK, that can fix the floor, and MB would have to work the aero portion of the issue above (including suspension.) The most crooked politician I ever watched was H Marko whom lobbied for years to lock all development aspects while A- Honda introduced a new PU while their competition was in COVID lockdowns, and claiming they were leaving (catching even Ferrari too late in its development for Dec 2022) and B, knowing they had a ground effect fix, and once the caps kicks, the other teams would need YEARS to figure it out as the R&D is also limited. I understood his machiavellian goal since 2019, but i assumed, incorrectly, that most teams knew being dragged into an unknown fluid dynamics problem that is alien to F1. By the time teams uncovered the bouncing in Barcelona, pre 2022 season, too late,. Not at all, the sport was viciated my Marko whom got the new rules ("Formula") with a locked in advantage. So MB has NOT fallen behind, it simply has not properly left the gate under the new rules and cost cap. 70% reduction in operating expense, 25% personnel loss, and no ability to fix the issue. PHALLACY #1- The Honda PU was developed at 300$ million USD last discretionary decision, Q3 Q4 2022, by Hachigo prior to leaving, a "SECRET project as Yamamoto called it, under COVID lockdowns in EU but not Tokyo NOR Sakhura. So while they claimed leaving, the Ferrari PU was too late in the game to fix by dec 2021 deadline. MB had no chance to even start so they assumed being Ok with their prev architecture. 2, THEIR PU WAS GOOD and mx time winner under prev rules, Look at the Q# Q4 fixes 2021, until the Massi joke robbed Sir LH44 of an 8th title. But outdated. Had they known in Sep 2020 that Honda was coming with a new PU, you think Toto would not have launched a new development path? lol costs 250-300 million USD to start a PU development why do it when your competition is 'retiring'? ??? ever heard of business cost benefit analysis? nope. Mercedes should hire this guy. I'm no aerodynamicist or engineer but my favourite type of online F1 idiot dipshit is "Guy who can fix all of the teams problems just by eyeballing car." I can't even begin to parse the first paragraph. I assume he's talking about CFD? There is another post where he claims Newey has the upper hand because he worked for March in the last GE era in 1981. Frond fucked around with this message at 01:10 on Feb 22, 2024 |
