I know Tweels are the bonded non-pneumatic tire/wheel thing still in use on industrial stuff. Twin Tires was a novel concept, until someone just made single tires with a heck of a center groove that accomplished the same thing for a lot less.

Except being tall so you can actually see what's ahead in a sea of giant pickup trucks and other SUVs, which is the point. Also, wagons tend to share the same stigma as minivans in the eye of the general populace, so the "only choice" for a lot of people is CUV/SUV.

I like wagons too, but that post isn't really the win it seems to think? The E has the 3rd row as standard while it's only optional on the GLE? (Which I bet is market dependent too). That's it? I wouldn't even call the GLE a crossover, it's their X5, how is it not an SUV? As for the Columbus, which is glorious, apparently Doug Demuro has spoken to Italdesign about it, trying to find out if they still have it and if he can drive it, and they umm'd and ahh'd and said "well, we can BUILD you one if you're interested in buying one!".

They're great appliance cars with at least the same or better all round capabilities than their predecessors, and it's not like they were ever showcases of driving dynamics, the Forester was always an outlier in that respect! The XTrail? Ugh, classic Nissan, taking a decent enough RAV competitor then gimping it with a garbage CVT. As a Nissan tragic, I sympathise with the pain Subaru fans now feel.

After training last night and a young woman and I were chatting (young=20ish) and she obliterated a stereotype that I had. After class, we got onto the topic of cars and she started gushing about how a 300SL is beautiful and her dream car, which surprised me (I was surprised she even knew what it was tbh). I then asked her about her thoughts on the Miura and she proceeded to tell me about how Lamborghini went all downhill after the styling of the countach with the possible exception of the Diablo. And then we started talking about other 60s/70s sports cars in general. I did not see that coming. Another young lady that was with us was looking at her like the had a 3rd arm growing out of her forehead.

The GLE Coupe back seat is slightly wider (5mm hip, 25mm shoulder), but yes gives up some headroom to the sedan, a whopping 11mm. 37mm more space to the front seat. The biggest difference is the sedan seat is deeper (longer?) by 42mm and footwell is deeper by 23mm. I think the coupe is dumb too, but lets not pretend we're cramming people in back there.

Ether Frenzy posted:Fairly sure the majority of luxury sedans are as comfortable/more comfortable than any SUV I've ever ridden in. Comfort also includes getting in and out of the vehicle. Old broken people (the demographic that can most afford new vehicles in tyool 2024) flock to CUV's because of this. The other demo that are big into CUV's are parents and one big reason for that is, it is much easier to strap young kids into a CUV than a sedan. I wouldn't go around assuming that everyone else are the idiots and are just following the trends set by the manufacturers. People want SUV/CUV's and are willing to pay a premium for them for reasons that may be alien to you but are very real to them. My wife and I just had twins in 2023 and now have 3 kids. She had a nice sports sedan that was ok but not great with 1 kid in a car seat, but was a non starter for 3 kids no matter what we tried. We upgraded to a 2 row SUV that is just wide enough across the back seat to put 3 car seats in, and holy hell even before the twins came it made putting my first kid in their car seat a lot easier. I fully understand why people with kids prefer SUV and CUV's over sedans.
