Almost reads like a thought experiment, hurt by their lack of comic knowledge. the problems with the comic were not really to do with Molly Ostertag at all, although I didn't like the way her art evolved towards the end (it became more refined in technique but it lost a lot of character and charm and she stopped putting in the effort of drawing backgrounds for most panels) e: (considering the way the comic just stopped I don't think she was super happy doing it at all so I can't really blame her) the story had a pretty high point in the first arc, where Allison and Cleaver have all their good interaction bits, but then it just kinda wallows in a whole bunch of awful bullshit. Kill Your Local Rapist taken to a literal extreme. Clevin being a huge field of waving red flags. Deeply gross takes on consent and stuff. Just wildly headfucked in so many ways. Deconstruction is loving hard to do well. Mulligan was what, early 20s when he started? I don't blame him for having half-baked ideas that don't work out at that age.

I think there's a misunderstanding that the comic was deconstructing the worlds of capes; I think it was looking at social activism through the visual metaphor of capes. An encyclopedic knowledge of superhero minutiae shouldn't be a prerequisite for a good story.

"Right, John, first, so questions about your filling system. Why was this contract from Wonder Woman filed under T?" "Well, she's Diana of Themescyra, yeah?" "And this contract from Batman under W?" "Client confidentiality, says right there." "And both of these weren't league business?" "Nope, Diana told me straight up that it was personal, and Batman snatched me out of an alley down in Soho and dangled me off of the roof of a bloody building." "Okay then. Now, this contract here says you were paid in pure silver coins matching the value of service?" "Ah, yes, the client was a drat faerie." *accountant glares "I meant a literal member of the fay. Lucky the coins didn't turn into shite in my hands when I went to exchange them." "Alright, now I want to ask about this receipt from your recent trip to Yokohama. Under business expenses, you have here 50 kilos worth of cucumbers and a custom men's chastity belt with a built-in exploding anal plug." "I was dealing with kappa, crafty little buggers." David D.
