Chevy Flight Plan

Hola folks we are back again. Our 1st foray in this campaign several weeks ago was met with disaster as we were rapidly picked off by PLAF J-7s near the straight. We haven't had a lot to do while our older and better looking brothers in the 612 Mig29 squadron have had great success. Thanks to theirs and others efforts, we can now get back into the fight. Today after thinning out the PLAF forces we are going to assist Jedi and Rattler flight by knocking down some short range SAM threats so they can focus on the big SA-11 site down south. If conditions are favorable, we will also help knock out a CSS depot in the center of the BOLT AO to help slow down the PLA advance northward.

Mission
SEAD / Strike

Primary: Destroy HQ7 battery(ies) of the PLA 3rd ADA Battalion
Secondary: Destroy bunkers and targets of opportunity of the PLA 15th CSS Battalion

Know your enemy:

The HQ7 has ~10km range and an engagement altitude around 5500m and is a radar-assisted IR threat. Be sure to utilize both ECM and IR dazzler functions on the Su25T when approaching. We will keep at 6000m or greater altitude during most of our engagement profile to avoid this system as well as MANPAD threats in the area. We will utilize our Phantasmagoria pod to find illuminating HQ7 vehicles on the way in towards our CSS site, intel suggests they should we right along our flightpath and another group of them further to the E that we may engage if conditions are agreeable. We will use the Kh-25MPU ARM for these (range 25km). Chevy should try to only engage HQ7s from outside their ~10km range.

CSS Bunker structures are our highest priority for this site for a PGM strike. We will utilize TV guided Kab-500kg bombs. If bunkers are gone use on trucks and/or any other targets of opportunity in the area.

The plan:

We will take off and push to WP2 while climbing at full throttle to 6000m. Once at WP2 we will push to WP3 at 400kph (may change dependent on wind). Once at WP3 we will stay at 6000m and enter a L hand orbit until ABM calls MATADOR meaning that CAP is on station and we can proceed. We will push ahead of the F16 flight and engage HQ7 sites near Carpa (see below) on our way to WP6. We will destroy all HQ7 sites before proceeding to WP6. We will the continue to WP6 and use our Kab-500s to engage bunkers at the CSS site. Exfil will be to return to WP3 and depending on status continue to Puerto Natales or divert to Rio Gallegos if required.

If conditions are favorable we may push out 30 degrees NE heading from WP6 and engage other potential HQ7 sites near Searle but our focus will be on the central to W side of BOLT first.

Notes:

Use the return (RTN) mode, waypoint 12 for Puerto Natales or waypoint 4 for Rio Gallegos. Bingo fuel will be at 25% capacity, Joker at 15%. Fuel capacity should not be a factor for our flight. Familiarize yourself with the Kab-500 if you have not already as well as the... particular nuances of the Su-25T autopilot. Lead suggests you bind "Level" and "ATT hold" AP functions as well as AP disable. Remember to disengage AP before maneuvers or else your trim will be an issue, go to "Level" AP and reset trim once level and then disengage AP if you have issues.

We should be able to see the HQ7 sites coming but be on the lookout for launch trails. We should endeavor to stay at 6000m for most of the flight, or at least always above 4000m to avoid our biggest threat, MANPADs which we have little intel on in this area. We should utilize IR dazzlers and ECM pods at all times once at WP3 and beyond. We will have a pair of R73 infrared missiles if hostiles get through but our flight should divert due North or directly towards CAP if air threats engage us. Only engage if there is no other option.

Loadouts are in the mission card. Good luck.

INTELLIGENCE SUMMARY

Helicopter Operations

OPERATIONAL SUCCESS:
The helicopter mission aimed at establishing a blocking position to thwart any potential People's Liberation Army (PLA) flanking maneuvers has achieved success. Timely arrival of our forces proved decisive, catching the enemy in the initial stages of operations before they could fortify reinforcement positions. Post-flight reports and accompanying flight data confirm the destruction of a PLA Engineer company, accompanied by a supporting ZSU.

MARITIME ACTIVITY:
Reports indicate the presence of three cargo ships, accompanied by an escort, positioned off the coast. Further reconnaissance and monitoring of these vessels are warranted to assess their intentions and potential threat to friendly operations in the area.

OPERATIONAL SECURITY:
Exercise caution to safeguard sensitive information regarding the success of our operations and ongoing intelligence efforts. Limit dissemination to authorized personnel and channels to prevent compromise of operational integrity.

WARNING:
This intelligence summary is classified as SECRET. Unauthorized disclosure or distribution of its contents is strictly prohibited.

With the help of Ascot's Hercules transports, Vincent flight is now operational out of FARP Sophie.

Please note, we are still getting secondary equipment set up; the TACAN beacon near the crossing of the two runways is going up currently, and should be operational in time for the next mission.

For all you Microsoft Flight Sim folks, something a little different. This mission will not have you flying for CSAD directly.

A US intelligence asset in Ushuaia suspects they're burned or nearly so and needs to get out of Ushuaia rapidly. Increased checkpoint security measures along Highway 3 preclude a safe ground exit, and the next smuggling friendly watercraft willing to take them and their equipment out won't leave in time. However, smaller civil aircraft are still flying in occupied areas for special uses, whether coopted for PLA use as scouts/transports or permitted to operate for things like critical repair, mail, or medicine deliveries, etc.

Departure was at or around 08 local time. Weather was thick overcast and light precipitation, with winds upwards of 21 knots.

The view flying from SAWH during our first descent

The visibility wasn't the worst, which I was great full for, but what literally took me out of the sky where these odd and extreme wind variations around the hills of this area. Commonly we'd peak over a ridge and get slapped by a gust so hard it'd drop my windspeed by 40 knots.

The only calm moments were when I was attempting to skim the water with my tires

More than a few times I was forced to turn back from a ridge, circle climb, find another route through the valleys of the area. The hefty payload combined with the low altitude requirement and strange winds made every land crossing an ordeal. Think Mr. Spook probably pissed himself the third time we stalled over the side of a cliff.

Eventually I learned to rush at elevation changes with all the power I had-the PC-6 had an engine slow to respond to throttle movements, which almost got the both of us killed at vital moments.

I made it a point to fly over the FARP north of Isla Escarpada, making sure to push the breakers back in for my radio and transponder. 7 miles from Puerto Natales with 14 gallons in the tank, the engine stopped making power, and we were forced to set it down in some field. Pretty much the smoothest landing I've ever had in my life.

Flight took 3 hours, 33 minutes and 25 seconds, all flown by hand. That pilots seat was soaked through with sweat by the end there.

9 MAR S42 San Suan - Mission Log

On approaching the Falkland Islands I observed a PLAN Square Tie Radar operating at the following coordinates.

Plotting a course north and to the west of the islands I detected indications of intense ASW activity, at one point emissions from 7 air contacts were observed in the vicinity south and west of the Square Tie. I summarised that as indications of a significant PLAN air buildup on the West Falklands.

At approximately 0700 ZULU I detected a vessel immediately identified as a Civilian commercial trawler.

Detected no other contacts and judging the ASW activity in the shallows to be too intense to attempt to penetrate, I set a Westerly course to see if I could detect any PLAN surface contacts operating in the area but no contact made.

As of 00:05:19 ZULU I am at S54'35, W64'43. An uneventful 24 hours.

On 16 MAR we will disrupt enemy capability in AO BOLT by destroying logistics concentrations. We will also be supporting Ford and Vincent in their operations in AO BOLT and engaging enemy fighters and helicopters near the front. It is imperative for our continued success that all F16s return to base undamaged.

OBJECTIVES
AO BOLT
  • Prevent airframe and pilot losses with flexible CAP and conservative attack plan
  • Suppress enemy air defenses
  • Destroy 3 BDE and 6 BDE supply areas

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Jedi 1 - SEAD/ESCORT
  • Rattler 1 - STRIKE
  • Ninja 1 - SEAD
  • Pontiac 1 - BARCAP
  • Ford 1 - See Naval orders
  • Springfield 1 - STRIKE
  • Chevy 1 - SEAD
  • Vincent 1 - See Naval orders

ATTACK PLAN
  • Pontiac establishes BARCAP (NOTE: Pilots needed)
  • Chevy suppresses HQ7s along the front line during Ninja/Jedi ingress
  • Ninja and Jedi hunt SA-11 batteries and calls OLE when confident they are suppressed, Ninja will be priority shooter while Jedi remains in reserve to SEAD escort for Rattler
  • Ninja to rearm/refuel at Puerto Natales once if required and return to station
  • Rattler locates precise 3 BDE and 6 BDE supply area coordinates while SEAD is in progress, begin attack on OLE
  • Springfield follows 10-15 seconds after Rattler and attacks 3 BDE supply area
  • Chevy follow 10-15 seconds after Rattler and attacks 6 BDE supply area

Overall mission AAR - Air Forces
Success - AO Bolt IADS and logistics capability significantly degraded

Exemplary performance by Pontiac, Chevy, Springfield, and Ninja. Despite being outnumbered and outmatched in terms of aircraft capabilities, Pontiac downed two advanced fighters. Chevy provided timely SEAD to suppress SA-11s attacking friendly jets, and destroyed many front line HQ-7 systems. This helps enable future helicopter operations against enemy maneuver elements. Springfield's effective low level direct attack on logistics areas further delays the enemy's advance through AO Bolt. Ninja's destruction of two SA-11 launchers enables airframes like A4, F1, and F5 to more safely perform low level attacks with unguided munitions.

Losses
  • 3x Mirage-2000
  • 1x F-16C
  • 1x Su-25T
  • 2x Mirage F1 (1 destroyed, 1 NMC)

Targets Destroyed
  • 1x J-11
  • 1x Su-33
  • 2x SA-11 TELAR
  • 5x HQ-7 STR
  • 2x logistics areas (rocket and bomb damage to vehicles and storage buildings)

Service Support Order: Upgrade Kits and EWR

Suggested Aircraft: Airbus A310 (freeware) / Airbus A300 (payware) [Heavy Cargo]
Payload: 28 PAX & 22,400 kg
Route: Brasilia, Brazil to São Paulo, Brazil to El Calafate, Chile (SBBR > SBGR> SAWC)
Distance: 4,555 km / 2,460 nmi

In coordination with USSOUTHCOM, a variety of technological upgrade kits have been made available to CSAD for the use of their aviation force. These upgrade kits have been shipped to the Brasilia Air Force Base, in the heart of Brazil, and are ready for pickup. They need to be delivered to El Calafate Airbase, which is the center of CSAD’s advanced aircraft refurbishment program.

At the same time, Brazilian authorities have reached out to CSAD regarding the discovery of a SABER Early Warning Radar system that was supposed to have been transported to El Calafate weeks ago. Apparently the supply officers responsible for this critical material were engaged in some sort of illicit activity, and could offer only lurid and impossible stories regarding the delay in transport of this equipment. They therefore have been sacked and charged for malingering.

The upside of this discovery is that these two transport assignments are near each other and offer a good opportunity for a multi-stage transport operation. Pick up the Upgrade Kits at Brasilia, then onload the SABER EWRs in São Paulo, before delivering it all (plus their technicians) to El Calafate:

«Irse a pique antes que rendir el pabellón!«

I looked over the loadsheet once more. I wasn't sure how we were going to get 25 passengers into a plane with no passenger seats until I saw the ground crew bringing a few rows of seats to the plane and installing them after the cargo containers were loaded. The poo poo you can get away with in wartime, I thought.

We taxied from the military ramp at Brasilia and got pelted with rain from the passing storm cell. By the time we were holding short, the storm had passed

We got the plane airborne, and started our climb to FL360.

An hour later we landed at Sao Paulo, where we were scheduled to take on 3 more passengers and the radar unit someone forgot a couple weeks ago.

After a break for lunch, we were taxiing again, and once airborne, were weren't going to be on the ground again for almost 5 hours.

As we approached El Calafate, we took in the scenery of Lago Argentino

We were a bit oversized for the airport's facilities, but still managed to get the cargo, self-loading and otherwise, delivered.

The Long Afternoon War ARMA Ops - Down But Not Out
An Argentine Navy P-3 Orion is shot down over Chile and the surviving crew of Trident 1-1, that parachuted to the ground safely somewhere near the Parrillar Laguna National Reserve at night, must orient themselves and group up to evade enemy patrols escape from the area.

After Action Report - Mission Commander/Sr. Pilot Sneep

Immediately upon landing, the crew attempted to contact one another over short-range radio and oriented themselves with whatever visible landmarks they could see around them. Both Pilot BREAKY and Flight Engineer JERIK landing within talking distance of me and we linked up to continue up towards the nearest landmark, a radio tower on a hill (marked as A on the map). Upon cresting the hill we heard gunshots from the next nearest hill with another radio tower, which was Navigation Officer HIROPROTAGONIST eliminating the guard post of 2 enemies under the radio tower and taking their equipment (marked as B on the map). My group had two pistols and an M4 Carbine between us which we used to eliminate the two guards under our radio tower that started shooting at us when we approached within 15 meters.

Using the hills prominence over the surrounding area, we used this as our rendezvous point to gather the remaining crew. HIROPROTAGONIST joined us, followed by Sensor Operator DAVIN VALKRI and Ordnance Technician BURNTCORNMUFFIN, and finally Sensor Operator COREYSMASH who had the furthest distance to travel. I had decided to try to escape to friendly territory using the safest route possible by making it to the tunnel leading out of Chile. Distributing the captured weapons between us, we set out to the South, skirting along the edge of the valley as close to the steep mountains as possible to avoid possible patrols. We had observed an enemy Mi-8 Hip helicopter circling around the other radio tower, whose guard units we had eliminated, accompanied with ground-launched flares of a search team. We made it past multiple patrols down in the valley just 100-200 meters away from us, bounding through open fields between groups of trees.

Continuing our way south between the lakes District 9 and Monsters vs Aliens and started heading southwest along the southern coast of the lake. We observed another Mi-8 Hip helicopter patrolling around the edge of the lake with its spotlight on. We made sure to move only when the helicopter was flying away from us. Not long after evading the helicopter we had a 4 man enemy patrol stumble on our position and opened fire on us (approximate location marked C on the map). They were positioned down the hill towards the edge of the lake giving us an elevation advantage. We returned fire and took cover behind trees and rocks but their surprise ended up downing 3 of our crew, with a friendly grenade downing another two after it bounced off a tree that jumped out of nowhere. Fortunately, JERIK had survived the gunfire and was able to eliminate the remaining members of the patrol and started to revive and tend to the wounded. We took their equipment, guns, and medical backpack to add to our resources and continued on our way towards the tunnel.

Evading another patrol at the end of the lake, we made our way as close to the end of the tunnel as we could. We needed to capture some form of transportation to make it through the tunnel, and we needed to eliminate the guards posted at a roadblock near the entrance of the tunnel (marked D on the map). We observed two enemy armored vehicles, which concerned us as we had no anti-tank weaponry. As it turns out, those vehicles were uncrewed, but we were quickly spotted by enemy forces and were engaged in a compromised position. Nearly all of us were wounded and downed by gunfire once again, but with the cover of thrown smoke grenades we were all able to be revived. We pushed down in to a small creek bed and around the small houses the enemies were moving between. With our captured weaponry we are able to quickly eliminate any remaining enemy guards and clear the guard posts.

We quickly captured two enemy jeeps and attempted to clear the barbed wire roadblock on the road to the tunnel. The explosives had no effect so we drove our jeeps in to the guard rails on the side of the road and made our way in to the tunnel to safety. Every member of our crew that made it to the ground alive was able to escape safely. Mission success :madmax:

Choice to make:

A: Slamming your jaws shut, and fighting them like cray cray, and expect to hold, but this will make it harder to make a hasty retreat to move your brigades from AO Bolt. You can however, as mentioned, expect a bloody but succesful defence for now.

B: Or you can do a quicker retreat, not hold much, but be able to quickly move to a new location if so desired in the new few ingame hours or days.

As such, each brigade ordered to hold can counter their current PLAGF opponent.

You hold 1:1 parity as air strikes destroyed the supplies of the 3rd PLAGF brigade.

Multiple hostiles in the air has been detected as well.

Defend the Atlantic coast. Don't let the PLA get close to Rio Gallegos. Damage the PLAN fleet as much as possible. I don't have to tell you how much the loss of Rio Gallegos would set us back.
I want everybody with their minds sharp and following the commanders' plans. When in doubt, ask. There's no room for any confusion when there's much at stake.

AIr Tasking Order update.

Demonstrated competency unlocked as a trait of the South American Combined Armada, and the Combined Air Combat Command.
What does it mean in practice? Right now, the Air Tasking Order is created for a specific gameday, and it is executed by humans. On the days that we do not simulate, only a basic CAP is assumed to be flown. During simulated game days, the attacking of frontline supply stations and intersections and various logistics nodes is one of the most crucial targets, and the players and the commanders have repeatedly demonstrated this ability. Especially as decisively ruining a PLA Brigade's supply will terminate its effective maneuver on the battlefield, these strikes have been bread and butter of the planners and pilots.

It is reasonable to say that the PLA supply nodes inside the contested airspace of the frontline are an ESTABLISHED COMPETENCY, and thus, the constant missions to be flown against them are not required to be accomplished by players.

The mission will still have to be planned, and a short, abbreviated, air tasking order has to be created by the assigned Air Component Commander. Or it can be made by their assigned deputy from the Army or the Navy. No significant work is required, a simple map, and the assigned flights, and their targets, are required to be drawn.

CURRENT ESTABLISHED COMPETENCIES:
-BARCAP
-Battlefield Air Interdiction against static targets as Deliberate Targeting on the ATO, mostly logistics nodes

The main limitation of this move is that if significant number of planes are used, they will require their usual assumed maintenance, and for example can not be tasked to depart on player-flights right after.

Another relatively calm mission. In communications with the Admiral and considerations between the two captains, we're leaving the pacific and moving to the east. Enemy shipping through the Magellan isn't insignificant, but sinking corvettes and small transport fleets isn't having the intended effect. Now there is a carrier out there, somewhere. I'd like to poke at it.

That Type 918 is a minelayer. Guessing it ran over it's own mine. What isn't noted is the 1250 ton civilian trawler that also hit a mine, and sunk over the course of a couple hours.

Pillbug
801 Naval Air Squadron - FOB SOPHIE

Alright ya tossers, we're going right back out there. We did a fantastic job with those littoral ships, but now we got some PLA tank battalions acting a right oval office to our south, harassing our friends on the ground.

Mission Objective
Simple. While the rest of the task force is busy out east, we're to kick em in the bollocks when they're lookin the other way. We're to strike the Combat Sustainment Support Battalion to the south of COLO that Rattler couldn't get a sight on a few hours earlier. If we see it, we hit it. Then we look toward the concentration of enemy tank groups to the east and blow up as many as we can.

Execution
Vincent will depart FARP SOPHIE, head to COLO while climbing to above cloud level. At COLO we will assess the weather and decide how to proceed. If the weather is uncooperative for an at-altitude JDAM strike on the CSS Bn then we will move to our secondary and go tank hunting below the clouds. The enemy air defenses have been taking a beating over the past few missions so, while they may not be a huge threat, they are still a threat. I'd rather not risk getting low enough for a MANPAD or HQ-7 to look at us over the CSS Bn.

When we move on to the secondary objective we should reorient at COLO and reapproach the secondary targets from the north over the friendly ground forces. Remember: ABF. Always Be Flaring. Flare when you're about to start your run in on a tank. Flare when you're shooting at a tank. Flare when you're giving them the finger and flying away. And try to be mindful about going too far south in case there's more nastiness we don't know about.

Weather
Plan on the same weather as last mission. Cloud ceiling seemed to be around 6,000ft and upper cloud level at 13,000ish ft. Down low there was snow and fog but the visual range wasn't terrible - maybe 10 nm.

Loadout
"Pilot's Delight" (take anything you want that could cover both objectives. As well as some AIM-9's...just in case)
BINGO: 2800 lbs

Some notes:
Make sure you've shaken the rust off of your vertical landing skills. The weather we've been having around FARP SOPHIE has done a number on the ground and turned it into a soggy mess. Potholes have been developing all over the runway and has been making life difficult for anything trying to land there. So as a consequence we pretty much can only safely land vertically.

Ain't much to do
'round here.

Turn the jets around as fast as you can, enemy naval task forces and groups of landing ships with accompanying fighter escort CAP closing on Rio Gallegos.

At 0900L on 16 MAR we will attempt to interdict the nearest formation of landing ships in the vicinity of AO ARROW. BARCAP will keep enemy fighters (4x J-15, 6x J-11, ?x J-7) occupied while TASMO conducts their strikes.

OBJECTIVES
AO ARROW
  • Maintain local air superiority
  • Sink as many ships as possible in LST Group 1

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Venom 1 - BARCAP
  • Venom 2 - BARCAP
  • Rattler 1 - BARCAP
  • Pontiac 1 - BARCAP
  • Colt 1 - BARCAP
  • Ford 1 - TASMO
  • Dodge 1 - TASMO
  • Vincent 1 - BAI See Flight Plan

ATTACK PLAN
  • Venom, Rattler, Colt, Pontiac establishes CAP out of range of enemy escort ships. Maintain optimal BVR footing and choose engagements wisely, do not commit without backup, and do not continue to the merge. Where possible, support missiles by cranking away from enemy ships.
  • If Rattler shifts west-northwest to cover Venom, Pontiac shifts west to cover Colt
  • Call MATADOR when F16s are on station
  • Call OLE at Venom/Condor discretion
  • Ford and Dodge attacks LST Group 1 on OLE. Ideal timing is for Dodge's missiles to enter their terminal phase while Ford is close in with enemy ships.
  • Vincent conducts all operations at flight lead's discretion. CAP may not be available. SEAD is not available.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT
  • CAP aircraft should not pursue fighters south of the barrier line see RESPONSIBILITIES

COMMAND AND CONTROL [WIP]
  • CONDOR (A2A): 261.00 MHz
  • BUZZARD (A2G): 262.00 MHz
  • VULTURE: 263.00 MHz
  • VAQUERO (JTAC): 264.00 MHz

ABM CODEWORD PLAN
  1. ALPACA → Abort Attack, TASMO returns to hold point
  2. GUINEA PIG → Abort Mission RTB (CAP winchester or 50% of F16s destroyed).
  3. MATADOR → CAP on station, proceed with TASMO ingress
  4. OLE → Air superiority maintained, commit to TASMO attack

Flight leads, please prepare your flight plans.

Good hunting,

Ignacio

DECISION FOR:

Admiral Sampaio

The two corvettes that have protected both Rio Gallegos Harbor, and the airbase itself, in the Gallegos Rives, are now soon faced with a dead-end waterway as the PLAN fleets are nearing close.

You have the choice to:

A: Order their withdraw and run up north on the coastline to preserve them, but lose their SAM coverage

B: Have them stay in the port as air defence, but have nowhere to run as the fleet nears.

COLT Flight Plan

Welcome, I'll be the Colt Flight lead (Colt 1-1 "Breaky") this week. We have a 2-ship element of FAP (Peruvian Air Force) Mig-29S fighters from the 612 squadron.

Our objective is a fighter sweep of AO Arrow hoping to bag as many J-11s as we can. We will be based out of Puerto Natales (SCNT).

We will takeoff from SCNT and go straight out at a full burner 30 degree climb to 9000 m altitude towards WP2 (FORK). From there we will form up and cruise at 600 kph TAS to PLATE (WP3 in the 29 ENR mode). We will then proceed to WP4 (HURACAN) but hold 50km short well out of naval SAM range and orbit there to await targets or ABM tasking. We will return to SCNT (Mig 29 RTN mode 12).

Ford Mission
TASMO

Running the enemy out of missiles does "technically" suppress their air defenses...

The PLA have made a naval push around Rio Gallegos and it looks like they're planning to land a major force in the area. Someone must have told them Ford was in town.

Command has planned a large operation to attrit their landing forces while they're still embarked. Normally Ford would not have much to contribute to this operation given the fleet's long range defenses and our... modest technical capabilities; but the strikers with proper anti-ship missiles need a distraction to help get their rounds on target and we need a mission.

For most of the war our AGM-45 Shrikes have been useless so the lunatics in the ammo department took one apart and figured out why. The seeker heads are installed upside down. No idea how that can happen and there's no time to fix them so we're going to be using them (and us) as decoys.

Since Rio Gallegos is out of commission we'll be taking off from Puerto Natales, where we diverted after our last sortie. We'll head east until reaching our rendezvous point (PLATE) with Dodge who will be attacking the fleet with ASMs. We will ingress ahead of dodge, skimming the ground and sea until entering effective Shrike range on the fleet where we will throw our defective weapons in their faces. The hope is the fleet will be so busy shredding our trash for us they will not see Dodge's functional weapons coming up behind us and we might get some hits on the landing ships with our rockets.

Dodge is considerably faster than we are. Dodge will hold at the rendezvous point until Ford reaches our IP (BOCA), when they will begin their attack run.

Our primary goal is to fill the sky near the enemy fleet with enough junk to blind them to Dodge's attack; any of our weapons that manage to function and strike an enemy vessel is a bonus. After expending our Shrikes we will attempt to hit any PLAN landing ship within range before departing.

  • Depart Puerto Natales en route to FORK.
  • Rendezvous at PLATE with Dodge flight.
  • Await signal OLÉ and push to IP.
  • Confirm timing with Dodge and commence attack at TGT.
  • Employ Shrikes to distract and saturate enemy air defenses while striking landing ships with rockets.
  • Return to Puerto Natales.

Notes

  • Puerto Natales is a small field with a lot of jets based at it. We will tune the air tower after start and follow ATC instructions.
  • The waypoint list is not lying. We will be skimming the ocean during our attack. Review radar altimeter functionality before takeoff. Please see the link below and highly suggest binding buttons you can easily reach to turn the autopilot on and off and turn altitude hold on and off.
  • We will be operating at our fuel limits. No choice, its a long flight and we need to bring sufficient ordinance to complete our task. Review tanking procedures.
  • Mederlock will be providing a review of our tactics enroute. He put in a lot of work figuring this out. Please see squadron instructional annex for extreme low altitude flying.
  • It is entirely possible that enemy air craft will leak through, be prepared to defend yourself or for a mission scrub if CAP is overwhelmed.
  • Weather is terrible and our home field will be socked in on our return. Follow the ATC's instructions.

PONTIAC Flight Plan

Well then, due to the terrible losses some madman has made me the flight lead, luckily this mission has nothing too complicated in it, for us that is.

Our objective is to fly BARCAP at AO BOLT, taking of as usual from SAWT, flying to WP2, and flying track between it and WP3, goin after anything CONDOR points at. WP4 marks the danger west-east danger line, which we should not cross unless we absolutely have to.

Loadout on our two M2000C:s is, as usual, 2x Magic II, 2x Super 530D and centerline tank.

Most of this mission was spent recharging batteries. The DDG we came across was quite the surprise. PLA surface shipping-actually all shipping to speak of civilian or otherwise are moving through the areas with not a lick of radar emissions. The only things we can see is what we hear, and we heard this destroyer fairly close.

A decent target, has a 100NM range on its ASMs. Took me 15 minutes of grumbling and head scratching to decide NOT to shoot. Figured it's better for our wolfpack to slip through the area totally undetected than to tell the PLAN that we're on our way to the open oceans east. Can't say I didn't regret it some, though.

Our final positions.

We're in a very good position now, and we can go anywhere we want. In every direction, there should be enemy shipping, the perfect position of an Attack Sub to be in. This drought of action should end by the beginning of the next mission.

UPDATE ON THE ARMY MOVEMENTS:

1045hrs LOCAL, 16th March 2010

The 7th PLA Brigade has dislodged the scouts of Argentine 9th Brigade from the bluffs, but are otherwise stopped by the minefield. Due to the minefield being a hasty one, it is visible to observation. However, it doesn't make it any easier to pass, and thus the PLA will need combat engineers to the site to proceed. The Brigade is not willing to, right now, contest the Argentine positions farther in the highlands.
Their artillery is keeping the Argentines mostly still, with neglible casualties.

Update for CSAD:

Intel:
1. Collection reports most or all of the bulk transport ships that recently conducted what may have been an amphibious demonstration are still southbound. There was a corresponding lack of activity in and around the ports at Ushuaia and Punta Arenas. We assess with moderate confidence that we did not see the new arrival of 20-30 cargo craft to the CSAD theater. The Ropuchas, as you know, have continued ferrying and unloading troops.
2. Non-standard reconnaissance confirms that the BSA previously reported at intersection of Y-71, Y-85, and HWY 257 is now a Divisional Support Area (DSA) sized activity. PLA continues to increase hardening, dispersion, and refit capability at the DSA, as well as ground and air defenses. BSA elements likely relocated north or northeast in TdF to support the front or crossing as well as out east to support in vicinity of Punta Arenas.
---UPDATE: S-300 components seen moving on highways in vicinity of DSA, as well as improved ship to shore logistics to support the DSA pushing equipment and forces west across the water to AO Bolt.
---UPDATE: Smerch and Uragan transloaders and ammunition seen moving on some highways, though the rocket artillery firing units remain unlocated. Ammunition included HE, cluster, and remote anti-tank and anti-personnel minelaying
3. CSS-7s remain unlocated.
4. The Liaoning carrier battle group is located. Flight schedule seems to favor daytime operations. Like our carriers, they can only support about 12 hours of flying per day, likely less. They are currently on a daylight fly rotation, with a portion of their air wing operating from Stanley to allow them to take full fuel and heavy ordnance while the carrier-craft remain on fleet defense. It has significant escorts, to include big-wing ASW, ISR, and some AEW&C from Port Stanley.

Material Support to CSAD:
-State Department has finally approved shipment of 2x HTS for export to Chile. Once installed on those jets, no parting them out, retrofitting, etc, state wants these tracked carefully. If the airframe crashes or falls to hostile fire, you owe us the location to best of your ability. Do NOT attempt maintenance or service on the HTS without proper US government advisor or contractor conducting the task; extreme damage or danger to ground crew could result.
-Chile is approved for transfer of 4x F-16A-quality airframes, brought back to life out of the Boneyard.
-QF-4 conversion to combat-capable F-4s scheduled for delivery to CSAD in two weeks

The visibility wasn't the worst, which I was great full for, but what literally took me out of the sky where these odd and extreme wind variations around the hills of this area. Commonly we'd peak over a ridge and get slapped by a gust so hard it'd drop my windspeed by 40 knots.

OOC, this is a dope as hell flight, and I'm reposting the more or less flight plan for those who read the thread but don't look at discord.

Intel Reward as a result of rescuing the agent and getting them back to friendly lines for debrief:
1. There is a warehouse at S53:08:37, W70:56:21 in vicinity of Punta Arenas that is being used for storage of tactical SAM munitions, to include SA-9/11/13 munitions, maybe others. Destruction of this warehouse means that in the NEXT mission in this AO, SAMs will not be able to reload or be reduced in number (I'm giving mission maker some leeway to avoid a reward that creates a ton of mission-maker work, but it is a concrete reward of the enemy having less munitions for the duration of one mission, the mission AFTER you all destroy this warehouse). It's located in an industrial area, several hundred meters from any housing.
2. The agent reports that multiple officers have faced punishment for their failure to stop shipping raids and low flying attacks by naval strike aircraft in the fjords to the west of the AO. As a result, PLA and PLAN forces are working to establish networks of radars, forward patrol boat bases, and gun and missile points that can help control the fjords and air avenues of approach without committing major forces. PLA intent is likely to be able to provide early warning for interception or interdiction with air or naval assets, ambush passing aircraft, ambush passing patrol craft, conduct non-standard reconnaissance, and support forward PT-boat-like patrols. The first pinpointed location is in and among a trio of islands, including Coffee Island. Image with basic grids below.

3. Frustrated by the performance of their HQ-7s and loss of several other tactical air defense systems, the PLA has been observed shipping legacy SA-8s and FB-6A (AN/TWQ-1 Avenger in DCS), so expect to see these air defense systems replacing some HQ-7s or appearing elsewhere in theater, such as the previously mentioned FOBs and outposts along the fjords.

TF 'Lanza' Mission - Operation Aplasta al Topo

Armored Assault!

As you may have heard during the briefings earlier, the PLA have launched what looks like a large amphibious crossing from TDF to the mainland in AO Arrow. Our fixed wing aviators are sortieing out now to try to sink a few of the bastards, but as these landing craft made way for our coasts the PLA armored BDE's to the West started an all-out armored assault on our front line. Thankfully we have rough unit parity, but it's still hell for the soldiers holding the line on the front. Our tasking for today is to make way for FARP Sophie, and put a dent in the PLA 7th armored BDE that's trying to push East

Mission Objectives

The objective is to attrit as much of the logistics, C2, support, artillery, and engineer units attached to the PLA 7th BDE as possible. Risk tolerance for today's operation is High, as our success or failure may make the difference in their brigade being capable of breaking through our minefields and AT trenches and connect with their littoral crossing units at the Punta Delgado ferry terminal. The first priority will be holding at a safe distance and letting the Hind's and Gazelle's take out as many AA trucks, SAM launchers, and other surface to air threats. Once their AA is suppressed, we will have the Gazelle's and Hind's identify and pass on the best targets for rocket passes by the Hueys and Hips, who will then proceed with a full speed strafing run with rockets and miniguns across those targets and pass through to the open water past the PLA brigade. The Gazelle's and Hind's will report on BDA, and advise the Hueys and Hip's on their next pass if they have munitions remaining. The Gazelle's and Hind's will then mop up the remaining high value targets such as specialized engineering vehicles, C2 vics/centers, ammo dumps, and artillery units that are left before the Task Force RTB's together back to FARP Sophie for refueling before RTB'ing to FOB Magellenes.

Flight Profile/Terrain Considerations

Once we cross WP1, stay below the top of the ridgeline to avoid autocannon fire from enemy recon units. Winds may blow us off course, keep your lights on and keep an eye on at least one other helo. Ensure there is adequate separation to avoid collisions and watch your instruments like a hawk in poor visibility situations. Flight leads use blinking lights, rest use steady

Air Tasking Order: Acquire A-4E Skyhawks

Suggested Aircraft: Antonov An-124 (freeware) [Bulk Cargo]
Payload: 60,000 kg
Route: Villa Reynolds, Argentina to Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina (SAOR > SAVC)
Distance: 1,360 km / 735 nmi

March 16th, 2010

Hey there Gilbercitos, had a tough one today, both with flying, and with reading comprehension. I was ordered to report to Villa Reynolds, with the note "bring vodka." So after hitting a local fine boozery, I clanked my way to the airport. Once I checked in, a dispatcher slow jogged over to give me my marching orders, 60,000lbs of hawks to be delivered to Comodoro Rivadavia. That was a lot of birds, in fact I would go so far as to say that was too many birds. The Airbus-321 can't carry that kind of load anyway, so I inquired to the dispatcher if this meant I was making multiple trips.

"No, just the one. Did you bring the vodka?"

After I nodded in the affirmative, he signed off on the paperwork, then pointed me towards the ramp. When I stepped outside, I was gobsmacked at what appeared before me, an Antov AN-124. I could not believe I was going to be right-seating on a Condor!

Captain Svyatyy welcomed me aboard, and with a wink, carefully placed my bottle of vodka in a storage bin. As I settled into my seat, I had a stark realization, everything was in Cyrillic. How the hell was I supposed to fly this beast? I remarked to Captain Syvatyy that I only speak Spanish and English, and I don't know my Блять from a hole in the ground.

"A plane is plane is plane. Just like your Airbus, she has two wings, four engines, and 24 wheels. The instruments provide the same information, right? So don't worry much you'll be fine."

Don't worry much. Anyway, let's sign off on this thing and hit the skies!

The airframe complained loudly at us as we held the brakes while the engines spooled up to maximum thrust, obviously signaling how upset she was at not being able to start the roll. Once we hit 100%, we let the brakes go and she practically leapt forward, a feeling I did not expect from such a heavily loaded aircraft. After that leap though, watching the speed ticker agonizingly crawl to V1 made me "worry much." Sure, we had 2300m of runway to work with, but the Condor really felt like she was going to use every centimeter of it to just get her nosewheels off the ground. With a couple hundred meters to spare, I called Vr rotate, and she started a slow climb into the air.

This is a totally normal attitude to be holding at Flight Level 2-3-0.

"Yeah but look sick!"

Before I knew it, we approached the shores of Comodoro Rivadavia, and my time with Condor was coming to an end, but not without a fight. Even with throttles at idle, she seemed to make just enough thrust to keep climbing. Very strange bird, but with a bit of that Pilot poo poo and copious speed brakes, I was able to wrestle her into a long and high final.

Those were the last shots I was able to take, as the battery on my phone died during rollout.

((The AN-124 is all kinds of busted, but 60,000kg of A-4's have been delivered.))
