so there is a headwind against the very lifeblood of the economy and something else too

in the Necropolis example, New Orleans could import fresh bodies from the healthier northern cities. But now, SARS-CoV-2 leaves nowhere untouched. many of the places where we’d traditionally obtain immigrants are presumably far worse off. if SARS-CoV-2 infections truly do cumulative damage and lead to a massive rise in disability it will be the world over. there will be no one to import. i do not have a theory for what happens then. war, i assume.

the political rhetoric about immigration is just PR. it should intensify as a scapegoat as things get worse, even while countries advertise immigration heavily in the global south.

As for Covid eroding the labor capacity of the global south, I don’t think that will emerge as a problem for the west for a long time. like climate instability in the home country will be much worse, sooner. these are some reasons:

part of the drain that PASC is causing in the global north is in social safety net benefit use. I’m not downplaying the suffering or gravity of symptoms, but people here still have somewhere to go when they can’t work anymore. immigrants will likely soon be ineligible for these benefits (more ineligible than now) and so will be basically required to work until they drop. then they’ll be deported or imprisoned and forced to labour there.

as for whether covid will block labour supplies for us: nowhere is the impact of covid on the body universal. even if 90% of youths moving into the workforce are significantly impaired by PASC, the west will measure them all and determine which 10% to mine and take from that constituency. there are still hundreds of millions of bodies to snatch that way. a long runway to keep feeding nurses to music festivals and cruises.

to amplify these effects, disasters and conflict will continue to weaken the civil society functions in the global south so that a country’s ability to resist western pillaging - which is already pitiful - will erode to nothing. every doctor, teacher, bus driver, warehouse worker, and all the rest will be subjected to the most predatory poo poo combined with worsening conditions at home.

My bottle from NOW says 1-2 lozenges 1-4 times a day, and to let them melt in your mouth. I haven't been good about remembering to take them, but I try to do so before work/if I go out, usually I managed one set of 2 a day.
I do need to buy another bottle for my trip coming up...

Also lol guess who will be near Polk County, FL soon. I'm pretty sure I had the vax (Mom wasn't antivax) but I may call the doc anyways.

edit: or not, the now website is out of stock lol. There’s a store a ways away that might have some…

Amazon has the Honey K12 back in stock. I've been using Great Oral Health Probiotic while I wait for my delivery. Tastes good but it's mixed with other strains.

Is all the worlds K12 made in New Zealand?

So with the new vax recommendations to get another shot (if you're 65+), feels almost like its gonna be harder for us young'uns (relatively) to get it. I should have gotten one last week, was holding out for exactly 6 months from last. I suppose the self-attestation that you are immune compromised is still in effect, although I don't know how that's going to play with insurance....

That meeting gave me a funny feeling with seeing people patting their back on solving one of the big issue of changing from "people over 65 years old MAY get an additional vaccine booster" to "people over 65 years old SHOULD get an additional vaccine booster"

Like cmon that's really the best we can do? A language change?

reminder that the proposed mechanism of action for strep k12 probiotics here is that the bacterium (though generally harmless) is covered in viral analog antigens that piss off your mucosal immune cells, so getting that kind of response is pretty much what i would expect taking one

No, I have subclinical autoimmune conditions and a slightly overactive immune system, i react strongly to antigens. E: hence why everyone has different reactions to COVID and the vaccines.

TLDR; if you're expecting people who think COVID is over to connect the dots, don't.

Man I thought I was the only person these things hated. probably doesn’t help that I’m officially allergic to milk now. I had a tonsil so swollen it felt like it was blocking off my throat one morning and my tongue was angry and thick. All the convenient care doc (who was masked so probably actively contagious) did was test me for strep then go ‘it’s probably something viral’ and offered me antibiotics. I was like ‘don’t antibiotics do nothing for viruses?’ and she just shrugged and left. Medical workers give zero fucks anymore.

I've had problems with oral allergies (cinnamon mostly but also mango and avocado) since I was a kid and rinsing with some golden seal root powder in water helps with the swelling, etc. It tastes like someone put a bag of lawn clippings in a juicer, so be warned.
