I visited an office once where they had Aerons in the conference room and that… just isn’t the right use case for those chairs at all

Ikea came out with an upgraded version of the markus called the jvarfjallet, which has all the same features a fully loaded aeron does, just the arm rests don't swivel inward. Instead you get cool casters that brake when there's no weight on the seat, and release when you sit down.

I got some ikea chair that I don't remember the name of that looks really similar and was like 300 bucks. It was a pretty great investment

Tech companies buy them during the VC phase then go bust and sell them for $300 to recoup some value. System is working as intended

I don't think they cost that much now even new (maybe the newer Herman Miller chairs do, idk) and they seem to last forever so maybe it's not quite as bad as it seemed

I got one of these at a thrift store for like $25 and it loving rules. I absolutely cannot fathom spending four figures on a chair.

If an expensive chair lasts 10-20 years and is comfortable the whole time is it worse than a $150 chair that is comfortable for 3 months and completely falls apart within 2 years?

Hell yeah, when I got a job with the phone company back in the mid-00's I got a nice pair of leather Red Wings and those things and I doubt I would have survived being on my feet and up and down ladders all day for 3 years without them.

I don't know why every programmer I work with doesn't have an ergodic.

I went to an actual office retailer, they have a showroom, and checked out a bunch of their chairs. Ended up with one like an Aeron for a quarter of the price. It has the synchro tilt which is great and really good support.

Ain't no chair that can fix a sedentary lifestyle I'm afraid.

Well, except those vibro-chairs from the '50s. They positively melt the fat away! And it's even cured my wife's hysteria, too.

Would it be better or worse if literature was open source with version control? Anyone could pull a book and start their own branch of it, which might get popular if it's better than the original. Or commits to the original source material could be judged by the people in charge of that project.
