Galloway is a horrible self-serving oval office with many horrible beliefs*, but now that I've had time to think about it, I'm glad he won the by-election. For starters, the other candidates were equally self-serving shitcunts with horrible beliefs, but they wouldn't provide anywhere near the same level of entertainment nor upset the right people. Every time I hear anything about microkeir, I can’t help but find it really funny and I’m not sure why. The world is this insane, furry poo poo storm of terror that feels like it’s on the cusp of boiling over but just gets hotter and hotter with no release; parts are flying off as the machine spins out of control; the weird is normal and the utterly freakish is now just odd; and in the middle of the maelstrom of poo poo and fury is microkeir, glumly holding his sign about cats and dogs in an empty room. Aren't those sort of curtains partly for acoustic reasons to reduce echoing? (Looks better than loads of egg boxes glued to the walls & ceiling) I went to a conference at the big place in Glasgow (SEC?) and it was partitioned into small rooms but without ceilings of any sort over them just open to the roof and the acoustics were dreadful, you couldn't hear what the panels were saying even just a few meters away, yet the sounds from adjacent rooms were really loud. Bit confused why we're having a go at Keir the Lesser for this tbh, an MP doing something to say "I'm backing X Legislation" isn't exactly some rare new development and of course there's a million other things that need seeing to and Labour need crucifying for all their failures to attend to those, but I'm not sure why we're mad because one of them is doing something to make things better, no matter how minor that is or how small a slice of the world it ultimately impacts.

I admit I'd never really considered the possibility of MPs doing photo ops actually having any material effect on anything, I've always just viewed it like having a royal visit or something. It doesn't do anything it's just apparently an elaborate form of social care for those afflicted with aristocracy or political leanings. They show up at some daft event or something and everyone goes around chuntering nonsense at each other and then nothing happens. It's like when you read old victorian stories about how the high society types spend all their time at "the club" which is an endless series of drawing rooms and wood paneling with the terminally affluent milling about in them because that's just what they do. Can we get labour to support bringing israel to the ICC if we point out they're bombing puppies and kittens as well? I can't help but think of Marx's position on it which afaik is that while animal rights aren't a bad thing, the predominant strain in animal rights activism, to his mind, was people who pursued it like a hobby, and to the exclusion of being willing to think about either the humans they mistreat or capitalism itself's effect on animals. It isn't a coherent, consistent critique of the world that would look to draw common ground between the way society treats people and the way it treats animals, it's just touchy feely bollocks about not making the "good" types of animals cry. And if that's the best someone can muster in the state of the world as it exists then it's hard not to see it as infantile, to think less of them for it. It's not a bad position in isolation, it's something you might commend a five year old for thinking. But for a politician to be so otherwise worthless that it's the best thing you can say for them, that they feel it's worth advertising, that's just pathetic.
