Exhaustive ranking of minigames so far (ch 10)

S.
Chocobo Racing
Queen's Blood

A.
Motorcycle chase
starfighter
Shooting Gallery
Jumpfrog
Scanning summon materia things (it's short and the challenge escalates at a nice pace as it goes)

B.
Piano (it's too fuckin hard, but I appreciate it)
Desert Rush (it's fine.)

C.
Fort Condor, (doesn't have enough stuff going on (and gets way too hard as a result),
Gears and Gambits has too much at the start (insane tutorial overload on round 1) and then nothing cool or exciting or challenging for rounds 2-4
Fort Junon rhythm game thing
Chocobo Gliding (I have already bitched about the controls)
Fighting cactuars

D.
Brawler (It's just really fuckin hard to read the enemy moves, and there's not enough depth in there, anyway)
Moogles (It doesn't evolve enough to have to do it 10 times or whatever)
Picking mushrooms (I'm just angry I failed the third one)

F.
Situps (I think a patch to engage the adaptive triggers earlier would fix my issues)
Scanning crystals (it's the same every time and it takes longer to see the progress popup and wait for Chadley to call me than it does to just to the thing)
Climbing towers (the game increases the "difficulty" by making the towers more complex but it's really just making them longer and more annoying)

e: holy poo poo this is the first time i noticed the baby chocobo takes a nap with you when you use a cushion. how did the moogles wind up the way they did

You'll interrupt it immediately if you save a synergy ability to use right then.

Together, Cloud and Tifa can build up synergy extremely quickly, I would recommend them for that fight.

Before Crisis, yes. Though it's a very early mobile phone game that no one outside of Japan ever got to play. Elements of it have been brought into Remake's canon, like Avalanche being a relatively large organization with different cells, not just Barret and co., and them being responsible for trying to assassinate President Shinra (on Rufus's order, it ultimately turns out), but the rest of BC is just kinda "shrug?". And I guess Cissnei, who started out in Before Crisis then made the jump to Crisis Core and then Rebirth.

My understanding is that the only real relevant things are:

Avalanche is a bigger organization
Yuffie worked with a more radicle version of Avalanche briefly
There were more Turks but most of them are in hiding (seemingly dead), including Cissnei and Elena's sister.
There is a female member of Red XIII's species that he sacrified himself to keep hidden and who is currently in a conveniently sealed location nobody can visit so you can stop asking who Red XIII had kids with now please.

What difficulty us everyone on? I put the highest not knowing how the battle system is gonna turn out. But might go back to normal if it’s just longer time to stagger

Magic, you can cycle through the different elements by pressing left and right.

not sure if this was harrow's original question, but anyone know if the basic non-element ninjutsu is considered magic damage as well? i'd assume so but haven't seen anything clarifying one way or another

yuffie goes to midgar a little bit prior to the sector 7 plate drop, meets a "normal" avalanche cell and another ninja from wutai named sonon. they go to shinra tower as the plate drop is being planned to steal the "ultimate materia" only to learn it doesn't exist (fighting scarlet on the way), then a guy from dirge of cerberus (nero) shows up for a really annoying boss fight and kills sonon following it (he's the guy you see in her flashbacks pushing her into an elevator). there's a bit of work establishing the non-shinra factions like remake started and rebirth has continued

i played intermission right before rebirth dropped and had a good time with it, but i would be surprised if you're missing more than yuffie characterization and a few cameos (both of which are good, yuffie is good)

I think I bricked the shooting minigame at Costa del Sol. I hit retry after a round, and now if I try to start either level, as soon as the countdown starts, the gunsight jerks up to the ceiling and I can't aim anywhere.

I tried closing out, restarting the system, turning it off, switching controllers... still can't aim.

I can buy the two top prizes elsewhere, yeah?

No Promises Await At Journey's End

I have many questions haha

What the hell could a third game involve if the second was this jam packed with story and environments? I played the original but forgot what came after this in it. I guess the war with Shinra and Wutai? And fighting Sephiroth for a third time?

Is Aerith really gone? :smith: Was that her ghost hanging around the team at the end? Did she and Cloud have a special connection that let him see her when no one else could?

Is the world really ending?

What was Zack's deal? I assumed he was in an alternate reality from the start, but how did he fight Sephiroth alongside Cloud then?

Do the Weapons come back in the final third?

What an incredible game. Definitely my GOTY, and it's only March! I'm looking forward to doing more side gigs and playing more Queen's Blood now.

It's funny how they made so much music for this game that they seemingly had trouble finding where to put it. Like each open-world zone seems to have multiple tracks that play in different places, or side quests will have some track that only plays during them.

BTW it's been said before, but use the synergy skills. The offensive ones in particular are often extremely good and preferable to normal attacks. I feel like the game itself is very bad at explaining this stuff.

SyntheticPolygon

They figured out that with all the complaints about Remakes sidequests one way to immediately win everyone over was by giving like half of them just totally incredible unique tracks. Sometimes more than 1.

"Go on until you're stopped."
The main important thing that happens in Interlude is that Yuffie shows up in Midgar ready to kick the entire city's rear end and make everybody there cry, and winds up being surprised when everybody she meets in the Avalanche cell is nice and helpful and actually seem to kind of enjoy living there. (Although when they warn her against the dangerous, violent splinter cell, both she and her partner Sonon agree that the splinter cell look badass and they should make friends with them as soon as possible.) Then they run through the Shinra building getting dicked around by Scarlet pretty much the same way the main party gets dicked around by Hojo a few hours later in the main story. Sonon dies to a really tacky boss from Dirge of Cerberus, and Yuffie escapes from the building just in time to watch Sector 7 collapse pretty much right at her feet. She leaves Midgar with the conviction that she needs to join a team of 6-7 anti-Shinra badasses as soon as possible.

I'm glad that running the hardest version of the parade doesn't require you to get a perfect score to get the award at the end. I biffed the last set kinda hard but I'm guessing a final score of 10,000+ is just enough to squeak by. No checkpoints so if I had to reset back to the part before the leading cutscene enough to get a perfect score I'd have lost my mind.
