We need to get back to the real issue here. Abandoning your playthrough of an old PS2 game that I can't remember the name of is not OK.

I always knew I'd die with a headache.

A long time ago I remember watching TDI’s LP of some FMV game that he did subtitled and thinking it was a weird choice at the time, some experiment that didn’t really pan out. Now it’s really obviously because he did not have the voice of a grizzled borderline alcoholic ex-military guy

FYI they've done some stuff together more recently on twitch and there are vods although they're on slowbeefs YouTube not the retsuprae account. would recommend their A Way Out playthrough in particular

Alright, cool, I'll check it out. The part about pruning my YouTube subscriptions a while back was actually serious, came across the old retsupurae channel and wondered what happened to them. Then a month later all this happens.

If they ever start doing retsupurae again I'm there for it, I think there's a niche for that more slow-paced, in-depth riffing (I guess MST3K-style), as opposed to the hyper-edited stuff that's already overabundant on YT.

I miss listening to like four guys in the same room talk over each other while one of them incompetently plays an entire 100-hour RPG with no editing whatsoever. Those were the days. (Sincere.)

I feel like thornbrains largely keep to those. I haven't watched her stuff for a while but the skies of arcadia lp definitely was in that vein save for a version with the commentary muted on cutscenes. Should se what thay group is doing again.

I just don't really enjoy watching unedited stream VODs, which is what seems to largely have replaced them. Admittedly I tended to watch LPs where four guys in the same room incompetently play an entire 100hr rpg with some editing, lol.

It's hardly a hardship though, trends come and go.

Agreed. Two people with good chemistry is the ideal for me. They can work off each other's comments, but there aren't too many cooks.

This is also a factor. The Straw Hat NO! has good chemistry, and I enjoy their LPs despite having more than 2 people commenting.

I think some of my favorite video LPs were team four star nuzlocking Pokemon games. Rage inducingly entertaining some times.

For me, I think the biggest benefit of 2 people is that it can get rolling with good chemistry very quickly (usually in the very first episode), whereas with bigger groups I've often found the first few episodes are pretty shaky as the group tries to settle into a good dynamic and flow where everybody can contribute without stepping on each other.

At some point I just have the video running in the background if nothing interesting is happen in the game itself, so no biggie there I'd say.

Meowywitch posted:

Even with two people it's more easily a miss than a hit. Usually it's one LP'er who knows the game, who invites their friend who has no knowledge of the game, and they just sit around making bad jokes and watering down the actual LP'ers content. It either needs a very special chemistry, or a "copilot" who knows how to be genuinely funny or to ask the right questions to make the "main" LP'er cough up interesting information.

It's fine, I've always been self-conscious about that and was pretty much the reason why I did subtitles for my LPs.

Had I done them now I probably wouldn't do that.
Even if I still have the random urge just to remake some of them.

I still can't figure out what's being pinged, those are like the two cleanest episodes we've done :psyduck: The Yakuza 3 episode that got a hate speech ping a while back at least had Grace saying "I hate white people" but there was nothing in the FOTNS ones

Also he said "I hate white people" implying that Andre Richardson's moveset was just how white people fight in general and that was a funny joke lost to time dammit
