the scant few times I got the thing to lock on and then hit a charger, it blew its head off. that was really nice to see after getting 0 reaction every other time I’ve hit them with an “antitank” weapon besides maybe exposing a leg for small arms to later make them unceremoniously drop dead. I still think that level of power should be the norm for the EAT and RR, with the target definitely dying to a second antitank shot if it survives, just like it was in HD1.

I managed to get a few more shots in, and against bots they seem decent. Two hits will take out a tank from any angle, and I'm pretty sure I managed to oneshot one to the back of the turret. Same for Hulks.

I've been trying the autocannon turret for some anti-armor duties and throwing it far from the fighting on some elevated terrain but it seems to just get aggro'd by some little grunts and destroyed real fast, or a bile titan walks up and vomits on it.

Sentries for AT duty works great until said sentry decides that some trash mob needs to die, turns around, and just lets a Bile Titan walk straight up to it

Pretty sure I have some footage somewhere of an autocannon sentry turning 90 degrees away from a titan to kill a scavenger next to me, ragdolling me in front of said titan and getting me killed (the titan killed the sentry right after)

For the purpose of killing big things the rocket turret actually prioritizes large targets first. That makes it a bit more useful.

For machine gun and Gatling turrets throwing it up a hill a ways away works great because they can defend themselves. For the rocket and AC turrets I want to be up the hill next to it so I can defend it while it works and my teammates keep the mob occupied.

Unless you are throwing it as a distraction so you can hoof it, they work great for that.

FYI AC turrets don't claim to prioritize armored targets, and they don't do that reliably at all. Rocket turrets do.

Yeah deliberately making your players have a miserable time now so that they can enjoy a sense of relief at some unspecified point in the future is definitely a thing that people who want you to play their game would do, sure.

The intended behaviour for all players is to try difficulty levels until you get to one thats too hard for you to enjoy and then play the last one you enjoyed. Its not intentionally making your players miserable to have that be true for even the most skilled players, any more than it for the players who arent as good.

I don't really get the theory that 'mechs will be the secret sauce that makes 8 and 9 easier. If anything, I expect them to be completely useless on those difficulties, because unless the 'mechs are monstrously overpowered invincible death machines they're just going to be big slow targets that can't run away from the infinite waves of chargers and bile titans.

They'll probably make 5s and 6s smooth as butter though.

Third World Reagan posted:

I actually think making super samples only drop on 7+ was a contributing factor for why they're having this backlash, because wanting to get upgrades probably forced a bunch of people into doing high level stuff when they wouldn't have done so otherwise and now they're too proud to drop down now that it's harder.

I imagine that like emplacements, the mechs will be called down on 8s and 9s specifically for the parts where you have to hold the area for a while and get in a big ol fight. But hey, we'll find out for sure soon!

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE DEAD, MOTHERFUCKER?

Eh you can't add a bunch of treadmill systems and then get mad when players want to progress. If they wanted it to be a pure vibes game they could have just made it more sandbox-esque and not need to unlock all this stuff. The obvious fun of the game is being a failure-cascade simulator or epic destruction game that creates memorable moments through their various gaming systems converging unexpectedly. Throwing XP & Samples & Req & Medals on top of that is obviously going to make players want to unlock that stuff. And if it wasn't intended to be unlocked yet they shouldn't be in the game yet.

I mean you said your friends are complaining they want upgrades but you think they should just ignore them, and the devs apparently didn't want the super sample difficulties to be reliably challenged yet. Gamers have gamer brain and if you have a bunch of unlock systems prominently displayed in your game they're gonna wanna unlock them. That generates "fun" for some people (not me though, I have a monk-like temperament regarding super earthly desires)

I have no doubt they can crush individual heavies, I'm more curious about how they'll hold up to the absolute nightmare spam of heavies you get on 8 and 9. Doesn't matter if you can melt a bile in 5 seconds if you're getting humped by three chargers while you're doing it.

Yeah the breaker is the prime example of a good nerf. 55 recoil is still pretty low for a non automatic (how I use it anyways) weapon. It's still solid, but it makes other primaries more valid at the same time. They didn't overdo it, which I think they may have done with the rail gun. I'd have preferred a nerf about half the severity of what they went with.

A few other weapons really could've used a buff too, and heavy armor is not remotely good enough to replace super light armor in high diffs since taking hits is just not an acceptable strategy.

However, extremely excited about the new warbond, gonna play now hope to see some of you out there

Pretty sure most safe mode users do so because they don’t know about the weapon options menu. Arrowhead really needs to put switching weapon options into the tutorial. Goons talking about it is the only reason I found out about holding reload for the menu.

Spray and Pray for sure. With the buffs it's really fun in close quarters, but has notably less range compared to the regular breaker.

I haven't tried the incendiary since the patch so I don't know if anything secretly changed with it but it was pretty meh the last time I tried it.

Yea I experienced meteors on the moon in daylight mission and the indicators were impossible to see on ultra quality. I just avoided the area / used terrain to block the meteors. It might be better if the indicator was red or something brighter, though I don't care too much about that as it hurts enemies too so I'm fine risking it on low visabilty planets.
