I feel like if you're old enough to be a goon parent you should not be in tears because your pokemon game isn't working. To be honest if you are old enough to be a goon child you are probably too old for that as well.

I'm sure it is, I play an enormous amount of videogames myself. But I don't call my family crying because the game isn't working. I swear profusely at the computer instead, like an adult. (NG++ final boss in AC6 is bullshit do not @ me)

I once went for a few pints with my best mate and his dad and dad’s fiancé who were visiting. We got onto politics and eventually global warming, and the girlfriend clearly didn’t want to talk about it but gently caress you if you don’t want to talk about politics suggest something better or shut up. Anyhow, she chimes in that she doesn’t care about climate change because she’ll be dead anyway, and my friend in the nicest manner imaginable points out that this is quite selfish. He really did say it in a nice way too, he’s one of the sweetest people I know. Anyway she literally starts crying and leaves. I couldn’t loving believe it. Cue dad and friend going to console her - he felt bad but if a grown adult, in their 50s/60s can’t handle being told that they’re selfish for saying ‘I’ll be dead anyway so don’t care about others’, that’s their problem. It was a real eye opener.

See this is why you stick to nice easy topics of conversation during potentially awkward family meetings. Better to stick to things everyone can agree on like how to most efficiently murder dogs.

i remember my dad (who has voted tory as long as i can remember) telling me that at a village townhall he was facilitating? moderating? in the runup to the brexit referendum he put to attendees that perhaps we should think of the effect of their decision on younger generations and people got mad at him for "guilt-tripping" them

The Question IRL posted:This whole thing about teens in England the 90's wandering into forests to find porn I just find so weird. Does make me wonder if there's a psychological divide between the generation who had to go into a news agent and physically buy it from a judgemental old person who knew your mam, and younger generations browsing pornhub and maybe subscribing to an onlyfans or two.

It has to be pointed out that nearly all of the faded hedgeporn back then was softcore. It was illegal for UK produced porn to show penetration, ejaculation or erect penises... but we'd occasionally find an extremely hardcore Swedish Erotica magazine import among the normal mix of tame Mayfair, Penthouse and H&E magazines.

True story. I had a friend at school around age 14 who one day brought me up to the loft while his parents were out. There sat a black briefcase with golden dials , straight out of pulp fiction ( although this was before Pulp Fiction) He had cracked the code and inside was the finest selection of 1980s European Hardcore Pron. He then made a briefly lucrative business out of renting out a selection of the jazzmags to thirsty classmates before , inevitably , being caught by his parents.

The Question IRL posted:This whole thing about teens in England the 90's wandering into forests to find porn I just find so weird. Its a thing from the 60/70s. And I would say its mostly dumping of them as the normal ways to dump things are not used. Thus allows others to find them easier. You wouldn't use your own bin as it could be discovered by your mum, and cant use the neighbours in case 'our Terry saw your lad dump these wank mags in our bins'! Found two porn stashes while I was a kid, one was a bag hidden in some bushes, probably dumped there as I said. The other was actually a gang hut. The older kids decided to build a gang hut hideout thing up in the hills outside of town. I remember it being professionally done, it was hidden from view, massive on the inside, etc. And they wallpapered it with pages of wank mags, with a few just there in a pile. gently caress knows why, cant seem them having a group tug. But the place was ratted out on by someone, and it was demolished. fuctifino posted:It has to be pointed out that nearly all of the faded hedgeporn back then was softcore. The video store opposite my old home had a porn collection, but mostly tame as gently caress 'UK releases'. With edited porn films. The pornos were mostly early 70s/80s US 'classics', but with all the sex taken out of them. It was loving bizarre, but you didn't notice as kids. Then we got uncensored ones and it twigged to ignore UK ones from then on.

When I had my old RF wireless headphones, every now and then I would pick up an errant signal from somewhere. I assume it must have been a neighbour because they're not exactly powerful things, but somebody was absolutely blasting porno with an RF transmitter and it would be audible in the background when I was using the headphones. All of my neighbours were old farts so god knows which of them it was. Godspeed to them though.

On a tangent, but do kids generally still build gang hideouts and huts, etc? When I was a kid in the 80s we didn't have any materials to build anything, but my mates and I would often find sneaky little hideaways out in all of the estate plant life and poo poo (think finding a largish empty space behind big bushes on a hill), or gaps behind sheds etc to hang out. These days I imagine if presented with that as an option, kids would rather stay home and play fortnight/Minecraft or something.

its why kids build their forts or dens or whatever in the woods. Its as close to freedom as they can get and well anything good theyve got gets stored there. Then they like grow up and forget and the next generation find their stashes. its all hosed now and just like roblox or whatever. they never banned woods did they?

Kids today would rather craft elaborate palaces in Minecraft and do TikTok dances than construct flimsy structures from old pallets in the woods.

When I was in my mid-teens there was someone who would dump a bin bag full of wank mags every new year on an embankment along my route to school. Between those and other found porn we built up an impressive stash in our hut, which was a well-preserved room in the upstairs of an abandoned farmhouse. One of my earliest sexual memories is browsing through them with a girl I liked who was around the same age as me, 13-14, wondering why her vag didn't look like the spread-open shots in Mayfair and Club International. In hindsight I'd probably have been in there if I'd played my cards right and not been quietly terrified of girls. Then someone burned the farmhouse down.
