I'll probably end up buying one for the novelty, but I would have bought more than one if it was a Wyvern or Champion or a couple Scorpion tanks.

Oh cool the people who want an Urbanmech LAM can get theirs, and I don’t have a wasted slot in a lance pack.
Bonus, if I see someone rocking an Urbanmech LAM, I’ll know how intentional that choice was and can act accordingly.

To be fair, it was always going to be some form of gimmick pack.

I'm just glad that Catalyst is making

a. products that don't completely suck
b. hell, products at all.

They ran the game line like it was an intensely depressed person for over a decade - as in, they barely did anything but bare-minimum PDF products and whenever people asked why they weren't releasing core products needed to play the game at a basic level like maps, they would say "they wouldn't sell, no one wants them, they're too hard to make, and you can just play with homemade terrain anyway, there is no reason for you to want hex maps even though our shat-out PDF products all have lists of maps that haven't been in print for 20 years, you clod, you absolute fool."

But guess what, when they finally started to put out new maps and new minis not based on ancient worn-out molds, they sold so well you can barely get your hands on them. Imagine that. Amazing. Totally unexpected. Who could have thought?

So gently caress it, if they put out a meme product or two for every few dozen quality ones, it's absolutely a win.

Now, it would be nice if they didn't have sloppy dogshit editing that needs several rounds of errata and several reprints to get basic things right. But baby steps I guess. At least BattleTech was already a complete rules system so Catalyst didn't have a chance to do their usual Catalyst thing with the rules.

edit: Also, before anyone gets the wrong idea, I say Catalyst operated like a depressed person because I have severe clinical depression and I see so much of myself in how they used to run the company - mainly all the making excuses, hopelessness, and sticking with the easiest bare-minimum effort things and such.

I honestly, non-ironically, think that the urban mech is a good design. It has a distinct silhouette, it doesn't just resemble a slightly boxy humanoid, it looks "militaristic" in a practical minded sense, and it's instantly recognizable. I would not mind painting one or two.

I'll skip out on the UrbieLAM pack because I'm never going to use it and would rather use my limited funds to get all the Star League packs with excellent Republic 'Mechs in them, but I don't begrudge anyone who buys and uses it. Easy kill points IMO.

They're tough in Alpha Strike as well, compared to similarly priced light mechs they've got 33-66% more armor.

if you're playing with YAML then yeah they get bumped up to like heavy mech levels of damage absorption. Their lower profile does help in built-up maps too.

I admit my recent souring on the Urbie meme thing came from my group's last Alpha Strike game. We had a newer player who picked up the Urbanmech pack and really wanted to use a lot of them in the list. I explained that map selection was going to make a big difference and since that new player was on the Attacker track that it might not work out so well. Well, he still had basically an all-Urbie list and then got destroyed on the open plain that the Defender map selected. It just kind of sucked all around.

Kintaro is fun to have for an oddball design but this entire box is just a good lineup

Also looking forward to getting plastech Laments, going to be a crazy year of painting for me between these packs and the Mercs KS stuff

The UM-R60L and any SRM carrier are basically "drop what you are doing and kill this NOW" levels of dangerous. They may not kill a mech outright, or rip off a limb, but within a couple of salvos they will do enough damage to ensure that something else later on will be able to.

I find the R60L is most easily dealt with by getting damage on the AC/20 arm as fast as possible. It's relatively easy to blow that up compared to doing enough damage overall to bring down the mech outright.

It hasn't, but it seems like most BattleMechs will get at least some art update sooner or later.

However, the order of what will get it in which order is anybody's guess now. Classics and most things from TRO 3039 and Star League 'Mechs have been covered already; the weird random picks from outside of those books are soon going to be the majority of candidates in the coming months and years.
