Somebody up thread mentioned the Badger stick mixer and I'll second that one. I've been using that one for my Tamiya pots and it's been great. Helps me get the stuff that's settled to the bottom on older pots mixed back in with minimal effort. I avoided using it for a while as I didn't want to deal with cleanup, but I just give it a blast in the water cup and the run it against a paper towel and it cleans up fine.

There's an estate sale about five blocks away with a colossal amount of model kits. https://www.estatesales.net/MO/Carthage/64836/3962628 Assuming the person who lived there is gone, I'm sad now I never had a chance to talk to him. That is a lot of cool kits. I wonder what the kits he built look like.

I would snap those things up if they don't have them priced at current market value. Whoever that was had quite a nice shop setup. Always a bummer when you see an estate sale like this knowing that nobody in the family wanted any of that stuff.

Oh poo poo, I see the 1/24 scale Airfix Hellcat on the shelf to the right too (edit: 2 of them!). That's unobtanium right now and going for big bux. Snap that up too. If you can get that Tamiya spitfire for cheap, I'd buy it from you.

I had to work so a lot got snapped up. The prices are a bit stiff (100 plus for the wingnut kits) but tomorrow it's discounted 25% and I'll go in as the open up. The guy also opened and started most of the kits so I have to look for missing pieces before buying.

When my father passed away a bit over a year ago I kind of inherited a lot of the model kits I had gotten for him over the years as gifts. Good thing I have good taste, I guess. He got sick before he could work on them, unfortunately. So now whoever inherits my stash will have some models that have gone through multiple generations.

I got three kits. A Revell GT-40 #98 for five bucks was missing it's wheel hubs. I'm going to try and 3D print replacements. The decals were shot but I work at a graphics place and can make my own decals. I want to make the GT from Ford vs. Ferrari. Second kit is an Eduard stripdown of a DH-2 (https://www.eduard.com/Eduard/Plastic-kits/Limited-edition/Aircraft/1-48/DH-2-STRIPDOWN-1-48.html) I've never done a kit with photo etched parts before so this should be interesting. Third is a Roden Sopwith Triplane that the owner had started on but looked complete. (https://www.amazon.com/Roden-Sopwith-Triplane-Airplane-Model/dp/B0042P6VCA) Total along with a small level and some plastic putty was 29 bucks. They are going downstairs until after I finish the Mack COE.

I've finished the lower hull of my Tiger. I had to take a few liberties with the tow ropes as they were much harder to get into position than anticipated, and would literally rip the buckles out the hull if I tried any other way. Overall I'm happy with the result. Strangely my phone makes the foam effect look a lot more obvious than it does when viewing with the naked eye, how strange. I’ve now started on the turret. Unfortunately while I can save the numbers there isn’t a practical way to keep the kill rings without making the gun barrel look at odds with the rest of the tank, so they unfortunately had to be painted over. I’m now in the process of foam dabbing Dark Yellow from the pot to ensure a consistent colour with the rest of the tank.

Hey I want to build a model ship. I know I posted to that effect a few years ago, but I think I’m specifically interested in 1:700 warships from like 1906-1936 and I want to start with the HMS Hood. I’ve done a bunch of Warhams so I’m reasonably comfortable with putting together and painting small things, but I don’t have any airbrush or photo etch experience—is there a good starter guide for that stuff?

If you don't want to do photo etch, this is a pretty good Hood model, according to Fine Scale Modeler. https://finescale.com/product-info/kit-reviews/2008/02/trumpeter-1-700-scale-hms-hood-1941-flagship For photo etch guides, World of Wayne Youtube channel, he does larger scale stuff with bigger photo etch parts, but shows how he removes them from the sprue and glues them. Some people solder photo etch, but that seems a little advance for the first go.

I know I posted to that effect a few years ago, but I think I’m specifically interested in 1:700 warships from like 1906-1936 and I want to start with the HMS Hood. Warhammer stuff is a good starting point and you'll have some transferrable skills that can be helpful when working on scale models! I was using CA glue for my recent adventures with photo etch at 1/700 scale, though that was all for escort vessels and tended to have nothing like the size of what you'd find on a capital ship. It worked well enough, though one does have to be careful about being precise with where the glue goes and I think some kind of kicker to accelerate the drying is a good idea. If you're coming from a 40k background, I'd also suggest adjusting your expectations in regards to how fast assembly will go. Most 40k plastic kits can go together very quickly once the parts are cleaned up and painted. 1/700 ships are a bit different and some thought needs to go into build order and also what needs to be painted before certain sub-assemblies are installed. The size of these models is misleading: they take more time than one would think. Airbrushing has gotten a lot less arcane than it used to be and is a lot more accessible as well... though there is still a fair bit of money to spend to get started. The brush and compressor are things that you can't easily DIY your way around, though a spray booth/box can be made out of a spare box fan, a furnace filter and scrap cardboard or corrugated plastic (you really will want a spray booth of some sort to catch all of the over spray). As for guides, they abound on YouTube but nothing beats just farting around with your airbrush and trying new things. And airbrushes, much like miniatures, really, really appreciate it when you thin your paints!

I've wanted to do battle damage on a model since I was kid. I call this one "Bit of a rough go today, eh, chap?" A 610 Squadron Spitfire Mk Ia returns home after tussling with some Messerschmitts over the Channel. Now that this is done, I can get working on the payment for Friend, purveyor of micro-scale Trucknutz™.

This is really nice, I like that you've been restrained in your weathering elsewhere on the model and that helps highlight and draw the eye to the battle damage. I have been on a tear as I'm nearly finished with my 1/35 Tamiya Easy 8 Sherman and just picked up and started working on a Tamiya BF109E. Question for you guys experienced with ships and aircraft- what are some good, simple Tamiya ship and aircraft kits that are simple builds? I dig how the BF109 only has a couple sprue trees and its a nice and easy build.

Some of the newer warhammer kits, especially Age of Sigmar (the whfb replacement) are really, really nice in terms of kit engineering, fit, hiding seams and mold lines, and are just awesome enough to have as pure display pieces. They are, of course, very expensive, but still might be fun to look at. I was building little tiny bofors AA guns for my huge 1/200 scale model Hood and was really just kind of dismayed at how poorly they were turning out because photo etch can be really difficult and realized that a lot of stuff that is photo etched could probably just be 3d printed and look a lot nicer.

That was the stopper for my Kongo build. A lot of the PE stuff isn't all that great and a good 3d printed item would be far superior. Fortunately, Black Cat models makes most of the major, repetitive assemblies like ammo boxes and aa guns. I just need to suck it up, count out the number I need and make the purchase.
