I mean no, it isn't surprising, cos you can't be a transphobe without being either colossally ignorant of the historical persecution of trans people by the nazis or aware of it and either convinced it was made up, or supportive of it. I think the takeaway there shouldn't be "those people were right" but "wow things sucked poo poo before reliable long term contraceptives and modern sexology." Same as how most of the TERFs' suffragette heroes were racist as all gently caress, but the take from that should be "wow things were bad before the Civil Rights Era" and not "women should not have the vote." (And "women might vote" was one of the main reasons for binary sex classification in the 19th century anyway, so yeah.)

I've said it before but if I'd been lucky and worked hard enough to have amassed millions from writing fiction then I would easily be able to find contentment by not being on loving Twitter. You don't see Stephen King carrying on like this (at least I hope not, I like him, he taught me all I know about baseball).
