End of chapter 1! I’m interested to see where Q-Rais takes this – so far it’s set up to be a very straight go at magical girls. Parsley is reluctant, peril to her beloved little brother forces her to give it a go, she becomes the third not-Pretty Cure, etc. A straight take doesn't seem very Q-Rais, but subversion of the magical girls genre has been done, and done well, before.

Considering how Monya The Gray went I will take Q-Rai's sincere or subverting take on anything. :allears: This is good stuff! I love the Q-Rais style but also very genre-style annoying exposition mascot, perfectly spot on.

You can do that sort of thing in Greco-Roman or freestyle wrestling, but it's definitely illegal in high school wrestling.

I don't find Daddy Daze nearly as aggravating as, say, Luann. But if its current content is hitting too close to home, there's nothing wrong with taking a break from it, or just skipping that arc.

Dexter didn't much care for the party.
I can't quote everybody, but thank you all for the kind words. After I saw tuesday's Daddy Daze, I looked ahead so I know that this arc ends on the 24th and I've faced all of those strips. Posting them isn't a problem for me.
I've been posting Daddy Daze since (oh god!) 2019, and in that time there has only been one strip that stuck with me, and that was one in which Dad was telling Angus about what a great mother he has while they were going over to her house, and then on the way home, Dad calls to say hi to his own mom. It was really sweet and wholesome. I hope I can find it again. Tuesday's strip with the phone call is like the inverse of that, and it stands out because it's such an effective gut punch and delivering a sense of dread. Frankly, I'm impressed. John Kovaleski can make emotional scenes work, but the daily churn of mild amusement or aspiring relatability never lands.

And thread regulars will know that ba ba Angus is far from the worst baby that could be posted in here. :wooper:

We haven't had that spirit here since 1969.

Reminder: we first met Bok less than a month ago. It's an amazing job of characterization that we're already cheering for someone that was introduced so recently... and as Flash's life-or-death opponent, no less.

As an (occasional, wannabe) author myself, I'm tremendously impressed at how Schkade manages to keep up this story pace without it ever feeling rushed.

Christmas: depressing gathering of family members, some of whom are sliding into senility, the same four family stories being retold for the god knows how many-th time. the turkey's a little dry.
Boxing Day: capitalism, ho! at least it's a day off.
New Years: objectively the best holiday. party with your friends, consume all the beer and pizza, stumble home at 3am like you're still in college and spend the next 48 hours recovering. a successful holiday.
