meh, a few days after halloween in 2003 there was a X28 flare. they figure it was probably closer to X45 in retrospect because the initial readings maxed out the sensors.

Our sun is actually incapable of going Super Saiyan on its own without help from something like a rogue star running into it (and in that case our Sun would be little more than a fusion spark plug), but if that happened we'd likely be dead before they managed to collide, either from the rogue star's gravitational pull loving up our orbit or potentially passing close enough to irradiate and/or incinerate the planet. Not sure what suddenly accelerating a low mass star to 0.1% the speed of light four light years away would produce in terms of gravitational radiation but am inclined to think it wouldn't be noticeable here. Gravity wave weather remains elusive.
