tell me why is amazingcause they were asked about if they had any trans people working on it or had talked to any trans people and they went 'don't worry: we've worked with GLAAD.' then they put out a giant list of things that WOULDNT HAPPEN IN THE GAME  as if trans people are loving moron babies who will cry and revolt if anything bad happens in a video game. i get warnings if the game depicts transphobia but they literally put out a giant like 12 point FAQ about every single bad thing that wont happen in this super apologetic tone.

One of the things that amused me the most about Kotaku and emulation is that I got to watch someone who would constantly post conspiracy-core poo poo suddenly get really whiny about someone saying that video game piracy helped greatly with games preservation. Like a guy who would make constant jabs about the WEF and alphabet agencies and so on (but would keep posting on how we need to start a war with China or North Korea) suddenly become the bowtie guy from the Atari Pole Position advert. The old gg crowd was full of those types and I'm glad to have a rolodex of games news, both about old and new. And sure, those types are still around trying to figure out a way to go on about this, like getting really mad at people who make the most basic "Huh, HellDivers is a bit like StarShip Troopers and their society was messed uuuuuuup" comments, but we now live in a world where the site that came from Gawker alumini is posting articles about Balatro.

I personally think game journalism is a dying medium, because every facet associated has in some form, been "compromised" Previews? - you can just read the press release, see the trailer, hire a content creator to play the game before launch to sell copies. Get a social media manager and community manager to build a discord server and an Instagram or Twitter account to remind people Edgy Trenchcoat Guy's name is "fryd oxyxcx" Reviews? You already know that's the big one, between metacritic, and anybody being a critic online. The days of a journalist speeding through a game to "be the first" is no longer, give the game early to a content creator to sell the game early, everybody has a podcast, or they are going to vlog about it. Most will be "hyped" and say it's a game of the year, but then stop playing it because the cycle continued and they need to do that next game. Others will milk the game through long plays, maybe a fun YouTube let's play series. But there's again, no need. You could even, just bullshit and project whatever you want! Get angry at the game for having women and minorities as mains, get into the video essay world about how the assassins creed series can teach us capitalism bad. It doesn't matter anymore! But don't you dare be mid! It's the best game in the world 10/10 or it's the angry video game nerd shitload of gently caress. Tips and Tricks? Well, most games lack cheat codes these days, so unless it's "pay money" for dlc, good luck. You can watch pretty much every level of every game and every boss fight to "see what you did wrong" that strategy guides and in many ways GameFAQs aren't needed anymore. So all that leaves is op-eds and for journalists at all these major publicans, they don't have the time, which means, you have to leave it to the content creators to fill in the gap. However, for every Stephanie Sterling or even a Yahtzee, you find many just trying to sound like gatekeeping assholes, "why are there so many fake gamers?" "Why games do the woke, I don't like the woke" and are still stuck in this isolated bubble where console wars mattered (it didn't) and"games weren't political" (they were) Which just makes a scary mess, text became video, and most people covering games now have to build a "personality" and companies will just lay anybody off for that quarterly warnings, as they frame it the same way as "entertainment" (which is, in many ways, how the news industry is treated in general) So, I'm very happy there are places like Aftermath around, even if it's all a vanity project these days. Because as it currently stands. Everything is becoming AI generated. and I'm a big fan of "Inside Baseball Week" As it tells me, all these people screaming "ethics" or trying to explain the game industry (indie or AAA) don't know what they are talking about.
