Our old beagle would dig in seemingly random spots in the yard and come back in with a filthy muzzle. Then once we dragged him away mid-dig, and lo and behold, there was a big fat grub. He'd been snagging a few extra calories when he could.

Ok, time for another update about Fondue! Things have been going well with her and Vilma. She now lives mostly on the sofa, and recently the two cats have begun to occasionally sleep there together, which I'm really happy about! https://i.imgur.com/xMxHXYZ.mp4 Vilma sometimes licks Fondue's face when I get home or when the cats otherwise happen to greet each other. https://i.imgur.io/A3jIXsl.mp4 They also play together a bunch, although Vilma is much more into the kind of lurk, pounce & chase type of playing than Fondue, causing fairly regular situations where Fondue is at first ok with the playing but then resorts to hissing/growling when she gets fed up with it. A positive detail is that occasionally it's also Fondue who does the chasing for a bit! Fondue still looks like the poorest baby on the regular.

I recommend following Blue Heron Farm and Beer Garden on twitter and/or Bluesky to enjoy a semi-recurring series about a rebellious tortoise and his daring escapades: https://www.chron.com/life/wildlife/article/texas-tortoise-jeremy-big-escape-19019222.php

It's absolutely a wren. Wrens are nasty little guys. Loud, aggressive, territorial and will destroy eggs of other species in the area. All in a teeny tiny package.
