Oh for sure, I 100% agree

Poles extremely sacrificed Justin at the altar of building the team that Caleb is going to inherit.

Justin had a touch and go first year with some flashes but was improving over the year, then Poles and Flus are brought in, and Poles proceeds to tear the team apart and take the medicine from Pace's wild spending spree and ended up eating like 1/3rd of the cap being dead cap money. This led to Justin playing on a garbage team with less talent than his rookie year, and picking up and exacerbating all the bad habits that would doom him.

And then because the Panthers were rear end, and Poles picked the right trade partner, Justin only got 1 do or die year to try and play to prove he should keep his job when he actually had a decent NFL roster around him. And then as he was starting to play a bit better he got hurt and missed like 5 games or whatever. and that pretty much sealed his demise.

The Bears absolutely hosed Justin, and it sucks because Justin loving rocks. But it served to create the wonderful landing spot the Bears currently are for Caleb Williams or Drake Maye.

A QB who holds the ball for 20 seconds every play? Oh, 2 of them? drat, good thing the Steelers never had that situation before

I don't know much of anything about the Steelers, but don't they at least have an offensive line that can semi support that style of play?

The bigger issue is that neither Russel, or Fields like to attack MoF, so Arthur Smith is gonna have to suit his offense to two dudes who really only like to throw outside the hashes.

Pickens if he can keep his head on straight is going to put up so many loving yards, slot fades, backshoulders and go balls baby.

Fields is really fun to watch as someone who isn't a Bears fan. He either does some incredible run or pass, or holds the ball forever and misses an easy pass.

I don't think it's a 50/50 distribution of those.

Exactly why did Panthers cut Bradley Bozeman? It's hard to imagine a vet guard with 4 good years of play was the problem in Carolina.

Look at the Panthers over the past, say, 5 years and tell me why you would be surprised they would do something dumb like cut a good player that they signed in FA?

That Brian Burns trade didn't really make all that much sense.

Okay. Then my follow up question is why hasn't Bradley Bozeman already been hired by any team looking for a starting guard? His market has always confused the hell out of me. Should have gotten way more than a one year prove it when he originally hit FA, then should have gotten a bigger payday when he did in fact prove it.

Bozeman was great in the second half of 2022 when the panthers decided to run the dang ball.

He looked terrible in 2023 because reich went to a zone blocking scheme he didn’t have the players for, injuries all over the line, Bryce not being able on call out protections or stay in a predictable place in the pocket, and overall everything in the team turning to poo poo.

Canales wants to run a similar blocking scheme to reich so there you go. They cut him because he’s a good dude and they wanted him to be able to choose his next destination.

Basically the panthers had a great offensive line, hired a coach who couldn’t utilize any of the players, then traded away burns to clear the cap to sign guards that presumably can do what the coach wants.

The team is badly run okay

I should say that if the Panthers gave Burns that contract that the Giants gave him they would be criticized too. You don't want to pay good players like they are great.

Yeah the Burns move was fine in a vacuum; he's not a $30m AAV guy. The problem is that they had better opportunities to trade him in the past and didn't pull the trigger, but that was a different regime so you can't really hold that against them now

Perhaps Justin Fields can start at center for the Steelers new double QB offense

Thinking about it more, they also need a starting WR

What exactly is wrong with Chase Young? He had mega hype coming out of OSU along with the Bosa's and he just seems like he's walking the line on being a JAG already.

Like, even a high pick like Clelin Ferrell (gently caress Gruden) was kinda mocked even on draft day as being a huge reach (with high character!) but Young was universally supposed to be a badass.

I don't think Young and Clowney are particularly similar at all.

Young had a good rookie year, then took a step back before blowing up his knee. Post-injury, he's looked like a pretty good pass rush specialist who has basically no discipline when he's got scheme responsibilities that go beyond "get to quarterback." There's some usefulness in that, but it is the kind of thing that gets you a bunch of mercenary one-year contracts from teams that think "We need to get to the quarterback more!" but eventually get annoyed by 17 games of a guy consistently being in the wrong place

edit: And yeah, it's concerning that he got to a contender with a loaded D-line and his production/discipline/focus did not improve

He's also missed like 24 games in his short career. Probably doesn't help his situation.

Dan Morgan is trying to exorcise the last of the Rhule era roster "building" including the ticky tacky college defensive scheme that couldn't do a thing except make the free running risk takers look good a couple times a year.

Reich and Fitterer hosed up the offensive roster just about every way they could and the interior line needed an overhaul.

Bozeman was poo poo last year and was poo poo for a chunk of 2022 when he wasn't just blowing up defensive tackles or linebackers pulling in the run game.

Everything about Carolina is bad but the team needed to get better on the interior lines, sign some pass rush help, get some receiver help and find some linebackers and Morgan's ticked every box so far within budget and without giving away the farm.

This teams going to be ugly for a while but at least they've identified a direction and they're heading toward it.

Burns is whatever. The best scenario was the 2 first but he wasn't worth the money he got and at least we got something out of the deal.

We suck but at least we've made the right moves at the moment.

Panthers got Yosh Nijman for 2 years at 8 million dollars. He was a pretty decent swing tackle for the Packers, but couldn't secure the starting job. Packers obtained him as an UDFA and developed him for years, but he ended up being beat out by Rasheed Walker (7th round) and Zach Tom (4th round).

I hope he does well for you.
