In his ruling, the judge laid out very clearly exactly why the judgement amount was what it was. Experts at the time were surprised that the amount was as low as it was and speculated that this was done exactly to avoid the possible argument of it being an undue excessive fine. But of course, that's reality, and we know that freep does not live in reality.

Even if we pack the airplane full to its max takeoff weight, 3-4 C-130s is fewer than 2000 people. These people have no concept of scale. Dropping 2000 people off in Queens is needlessly cruel to those people, but the 8 million people in NYC would never notice. NYC has more residents than most states. More people live south of Harlem in Manhattan than live in the Dakotas, combined. They're trying to mete some ironic Wisdom of Solomon punishment but they just can't grasp the orders of magnitude at play here.

If Freep had any imagination, they'd see what a mass deportation would look like: millions of people loaded up by train, concentrated in large camps, with children separated from their families. Since no country is going to take hundreds of thousands to millions of their citizens back, they are going to have to stay in those camps for years. If the US has any reputation after that, it won't have any money, since the federal government will have to feed, clothe and house millions of people.
