Tons of browsers are based on Chromium, so presumably the manifest v3 will impact all of them. I do remember one of the adblock devs posting about how it would make adblocking much worse, and computationally more expensive, but not necessarily impossible. Just heavily enshittified. So I have some hope that you will be able to run neutered adblockers on Chrome, somehow, but nah just use firefox while you can imo. e: yeah my post is old news, obviously there are numerous people on the internet already on top of this with newer information. Looks like ublock origin lite was created to address this and will work with MV3. hooray, the internet is saved but still worse than before palindrome has issued a correction as of 07:22 on Mar 20, 2024 |

A Chromium based browser doesn't have to take Google's lead on stopping adblockers It's just that the next most popular browser is Edge, and they are absolutely going to take Google's lead on stopping adblockers

put a pihole on your network then point your routers dhcp DNS at it and block all ads including on other apps and and on smart TVs. Only thing it won't block are YouTube ads because they do tricky unique DNS urls that won't match block lists. don't buy a raspberry pi though just get a old used mini pc on ebay for less than 50 bucks. or if you got an old as poo poo pc in a closet somewhere that'll work too. We're going to leave so many people with crippling gambling addictions once this is all said and done. Half the screen is going to be stupid prop bets with insane odds that trigger the 10% of people predisposed to compulsive betting to throw money away into the skinner box until they're out homeless on the streets. I'm sure they've got services on the backend analyzing which bets are the most profitable and presenting them to users so they continue to lose money. I know other people in this thread have talked about legalizzed gambling turning them off of sports and I have to agree that it's getting beyond ridiculous at this point, just sheer naked capitalism exploiting peoples addictions in such a gross way. https://twitter.com/JoePompliano/status/1770196825036710010

At what point will this cause professional sports to implode? I know there is still plenty of premium consumer left, but at some point the small market teams will have to start falling away, right? Eventually it will just be like 4 or 8 big market “Harlem Globetrotters” and maybe a handful of Washington Generals left floating around on life support. Or are sports teams too much of a prestige item for the mega rich to ever truly fail at this point? So it will just be sad empty stadiums with mostly skyboxes for private showings to all the mega rich?

I feel like we're already starting to see this on the college level. I'm not a sports person so I'm not super privy on the details but I know the topic this year was the PAC-12 falling off some of the major sports networks and all the schools fleeing like rats off a sinking ship.

it seems like within my lifetime all pretense of wanting to have a career that helps people or the world or does anything useful has been completely dropped. I think that the Healthcare Worker worship that was dropped as soon as it became inconvenient during Covid was the last straw. Now everything seems to very openly be about Maximizing Passive Income. Not working is actually good. Let your money work for you. Become a Parasite. Only suckers do real work.
