Also pretty sure that in Fallout 2 it's shown that the GECK isn't a magic fix the world box it's just, like, some instructions on how to build with adobe and some seed packets

even if it was a magic box the successful use of it is vault city which is just a shithole with a nice coat of paint

the GECK is basically a suitcase with all the means and instructions for starting a settlement on the surface, which sounds trivial but it's proven to work in Fallout 2. Vault City was built using a GECK, and at the end of the game the Arroyo survivors found their own modern town with the GECK that the Chosen One finds. But at best it's a means for creating alienated city states, it's not sufficient for saving the world on its own.

yeah while I do appreciate the cool little visual explanation of how capitalism creates poverty and enforces it through violence, it did feel pretty flat thematically. especially since it felt like it was building to the message of “ a single person/superhero isn’t going to save you or lead the revolution, it can only be achieved by people having class solidarity”

Glazer is echoing elements of the “banality of evil” argument laid out in Hannah Arendt’s “Eichmann in Jerusalem.” In his 1961 trial, Adolf Eichmann’s defense was that he was just a bureaucrat carrying out orders. But Arendt was wrong. Due to the release of long-hidden tapes that started to become available in the 2010s that the Nazi official made while in exile in Argentina, we now know that Eichman, the chief logistics officer of the Holocaust, was an ideological zealot deeply committed to National Socialism.

By the way, it's been many years since I read Eichmann in Jerusalem, but I'm pretty sure Arendt didn't believe that Eichmann didn't know what he was doing or didn't believe in Nazism. I feel like this guy didn't understand the whole point about "the banality of evil."

Saw Ricky Stanicky.

It was an alright comedy, certainly a throwback to when these were more common. John Cena [john] hammed it up.I felt for Keith, he had legitimate complaints about his partner and I don't think that was ever resolved, and kind of surprised everyone was just kinda cool that they were lied to for 25 years.

Speaking of 25 years, Halloween 1999 :smith:. I would have been about their age then. I didn't have such a costume, but the Austin Powers costume was a good pick.

his "out of sight and out of mind" critique is so absurd because (1) it's literally IN their sight at almost all times and (2) the film shows the lengths to which they try (and fail) to keep it out of mind —— it's in their mind at all times too!

the grasping at straws and weakness of the criticism does point toward an ideological smear of it

at least other negative reviews i've read (NYT, new yorker) understand what it's going for and what it's saying but this one is just laughable

The NYT review is propaganda for people who read the NYT.

The CNN review is propaganda for people who read CNN.
